2014 World Cup thread

Several positives on show, but poor defense let us down.

Group is wide open now. I cant even predict the two teams who will go through.
 
Sterling getting pushed out wide was a waste, he was doing well in the middle.

Rooney should be dropped, playing as a striker or not he's just blasting the ball all over the place and wasting it.


Lallana and Welbeck out wide, Sterling behind Sturridge.
 
Certainly optimistic.

We looked a lot better than we have for some years and we will only get better with the youngsters we have. Italy were not that impressive but took their chances.
 
Subs were a key to this. Motta, Immobile and Parolo all made great impact and kept Italy in the game, while for England only Barkley was doing anything. Wilshere and Lallana were ****.
 
why was Wilshere trying to take on three when there are 4 minutes on the clock, and he can distribute it to the wings. England easily could have showed better decision making, at least made the most of the 5 minutes of extra time

Agreed.

It's either he goes adventurous and play 2 like Liverpool does or one up front and one behind.

I'm very disappointed, even though the expectations were low this time, I felt we had attacking players to go on the offensive. Most of the time the players ran out of ideas and didn't know what to do, shame, it isn't the defeat (as it was expected) it's the fact that we didn't put up a better fight and have a go like the Costa Ricans and Dutch did that hurts the most

This is how I think we should line up tbh.

I would perhaps play Milner instead of Lallana or Welbeck if we are being over run on one side though

I think Liverpool's diamond formation would suit the players we have. Hodgson won't change though, it's took him 35 years to change from a 442 to a 4231.

Rooney on the left does not work and Sterling proved tonight he certainly deserves to play. It has to be three of Lallana/Barkley/Welbeck/Ox/Sterling behind Sturridge

I do agree with you on Milner, was more of a line up for our next game. Going up against some of the stronger teams the better defensive support from Milner is a huge plus.
 
Cole was a big miss at LB, Baines will never be world class and Englands defence needs some serious looking at imo.
 
Oh well dry the eyes crack open the red bull and get ready for japan vs Ivory Coast I think this could potentially be a cracker hope they've gone with bony and Yaya starts japan will retain possession well but I think the Ivorians will just be too powerful for them. Massive fan of Bony wish I put him in my fantasy football team now but I thought they may not start him.

Agree being bit biased, but right in what he says about his position. But was bob tonight! Don't agree with Roy saying he looked comfatable on the left!

Rooney has played main forward for England plenty of times and looked bang average at best, in fact thats why Hodgson has tried to accommodate him in other positions, because he daren't drop him.
