2014 World Cup thread

Cole should of went, Baines isn't good enough in my opinion and Luke Shaw should be in against Costa Rica.

Terry retired from international football anyway so nothing to discuss regarding whether he should be there or not, plus he's a **** so meh.

You will do well to find many footballers who aren't ***** these days lol. Gerrard smacked a DJ, Rooney loves OAP's, Johnson nicks toilet seats, Cole does everything bad ever invented and Sturridge and Hart to very very poor embarrassing TV adverts lol. Aside from all that in my eyes they are footballers and only footballers so i judge them on what they do on the pitch and last season Terry was England's best centre back. I know he was never going to come back for the tournament but if the FA went along with the decision set by a court of law that he was not guilty then he wouldn't have retired in the first place. After this tournament is/was the time to change and build a new team.

None of them ****** their best mate's wife though.

Except Giggs.

And a few others ive just remembered. You're right they're all *****.

This is madness, you guys make it sound as if footballers are just like real people. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that they actually ****. I know for a fact Torres doesn't, his entire body language screams of severe constipation.

Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill is such a **** partnership... I actually expected it to be pretty good.

Should play Chris Smalling and Phil Jones next game. give them a chance. Definitely play Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley, Sterling and Oxlade Chamberlain from the start.

If Italy beat Costa Rica by 2 or more goals you honestly never know... despite everything it would make a bit of history and that is England for you....

England have few very good young players but the quality of players has dropped so much.

Back in 2002 and 2006 they had
Beckham - Best crosser of the ball and brilliant passing ability.
Scholes - Nothing to say much
Gerrard - That Gerrard was fantastic
Lampard - At his peak but was used wrongly.
Rooney - Young and Energetic Rooney who wasn't afraid of anything.
Owen
Hargreaves
Joe Cole

Rio, Terry, Sol Campbell - You could argue each one of them were very best in their positions.
Cole - Arguably the best LB in Europe.
Gary Neville - Arguably the best RB for England in last 2 decades.

Compare 2002/2006 team to this team.

David Seaman to Joe Hart
Neville - Johnson
Rio, Terry, Cambell - Any CB combination England have now
Cole - Baines

Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Hargreaves, Joe Cole - Gerrard, Henderson, Wilshere, Sterling
Beckham - Welbeck
Rooney, Owen - Rooney, Sturridge.

In each position it's a big downgrade from that team.

If you just take 2006 team then compare RobinsonDavid James to Joe Hart which again is almost equal.

You can see the biggest drop in quality is in defense.

Rio, Terry, Sol Campbell, Neville, Cole. That's a quality defense and could challenge any defense in the world and the defense England have now is laughable. Can't blame Roy though as he has picked up best from the pool he has got.

Also the manager who got so much stick Sven, none of his replacements were anywhere close to his achievements.

I honestly think you've over-hyped a lot of the old players there... we had some very good players back then of course... but we have great young players now who can be just as good as them if not better... they need to be developed though.

Plus lets not forget, Italy and Uruguay are both ranked above us so technically there is no shame in losing.

Also the old England done ****... this one has done ****... it's all the same.

Like?

The players you mentioned were all fantastic individuals, but they still didn't win and look like winning anything with England

My post was not about winning teams, talent pool for managers to pick team/squad.

You can hype the youngsters as much as you want but when it comes to talent/ability that squad is easily better.

Apart from Rooney/Sturridge England don't have a decent striker who can score goals.
They don't even have a world class or anywhere close to World class standard full back and CB.
They don't have a CM who is good enough to play for top team or 2 CMs to form a solid base to build team on.
They don't have a winger who can cause defense problems or a goal threat.

Not a single player from this squad would be starting in 2006 WC team, maybe except Joe Hart but I would say it's more or less same.

Man Utd don't even give them a chance at centre back so why should England lol.

My England team vs Costa Rica would be..

Hart; Jones, Smalling, Cahill, Shaw; Wilshere, Henderson; Sterling, Rooney, Lallana; Sturridge.

Give the younger, hungrier lads a chance. Why not?

They play quite a lot just not much in their correct positions.. because United often need cover in Full-Back or midfield.

Both are good players and usually play well together... slated by many outside of United who don't have a clue. Chris Smalling is a **** fullback but a very very good CB.

They deserve a chance... Jagielka and Cahill are woeful.

Please no, If the warm up game is anything to go by it is an even bigger shambles.

To be fair if you look under the surface there is a lot of young talent England has at the moment... which like I mentioned in previous post can be very good if they get games and make it through the ranks at their clubs.

Beckham, Neville and all the likes you mentioned were good players but I don't think the players we're producing now are much worse.... it's just their not being developed so well.

But make no mistake, England has a lot of talented youth.... LFCMarshall did mention a fair few... they need to be continuously developed though that's the main issue here I think through games for their clubs.

Considering the defence has cost us goals in both games we've played so far.... what have we got to lose? Depending on the result later with Italy... we may have diddly squat to play for.

I'd be tempted to include Jones in place of Jagielka, but i don't rate Smalling and in my opinion he has done nothing to warrant being part of the England set-up at all

Will see how they develop as we have seen a lot of England youngsters hyped and then their careers going nowhere.

For example, Walcott and Richards were hyped up in the same way..

Smalling as CB >>>> Jones as CB. Like I said people judge him on his performance as a RB which was ****. Smalling is very good as a CB and he has proved it at ManUtd.
