2014 World Cup thread

Will see how they develop as we have seen a lot of England youngsters hyped and then their careers going nowhere.

For example, Walcott and Richards were hyped up in the same way..

Walcott is in the first team had he not been injured to be fair to him... Alot of nations have failed prospects though, not just England

I'd be tempted to include Jones in place of Jagielka, but i don't rate Smalling and in my opinion he has done nothing to warrant being part of the England set-up at all

Smalling is a better CB than Jones currently... vastly under-rated and criticised because of his performances at full-back. Partly down to United ruining him admittedly. Back to my point previously about clubs not developing English talent so well.

Yeh but you see this relates back to my point about English clubs not developing them so well... the potential was there but it has been wasted somewhat for the majority of them. Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair stand out like a saw thumb though... I think Micah Richards can still be a good player... he badly needs to leave City.

Theo Walcott is a very good player... people kind of over-look what he gives to the team... stretches defences and causes a lot of problems... still a fan of Theo personally.

Smalling as CB >>>> Jones as CB. Like I said people judge him on his performance as a RB which was ****. Smalling is very good as a CB and he has proved it at ManUtd.

I really dont think he has proved much at United at all, and to call him very good is an over exaggeration

I'm just excited for James Wilson... he could be a great England striker... something England have actually lacked for a fair while.

Sturridge is good as well but I think he's a bit hit and miss to be honest.

And the cycle repeats. In few years when someone post the line up of failed youngsters you will tell the same thing.

I agree there are many youngsters who do not get chances at top teams but it is something FA should be looking at and the way things are going I don't think England problems will be solved. Manager doesn't have a good pool to pick up a good team.

When played as CB he rarely had bad games. I remember few but good games are far more than bad ones.

As a full back he is **** and that is something which is used to rate him by other fans.

Yeh... FA won't do that though cos they sacrifice it for the Premier League... shame really... but then one can argue that foreigners coming into our game has improved us anyway to a certain degree.

Im surprised, you two are the first United fans i know that actually rate him

Improved the league so much but it has so much impact on National team. Not that in 80s and 90s England NT was any better but it is so obvious to see how English players depend on foreign players to create space for them to play their game.

The story of Cahill and Jagielka unable to mark a man

Not going to argue that Cahill and Jags should have been positioned better but they were let down horribly by Gerrard and his mistimed header. Mistimed headers is a regular occurrence in a football game but you have to admit that Gerrards mistimed header was in a league of it's own really

Absolutely not. Gerrard mis-timed a header, like you said a regular occurance. Had he not challenged the ball was going in that direction anyway. A mistake, not a critical mistake.

The main mistake came from Jagielka and Cahill not marking their man, just like 3 of the 4 goals we have conceded this world cup... Why on earth were the defence playing so high and leaving the best striker in the world all alone? Naivety or stupidity.

Agreed, infact as much as i like Cahill i have always said he is not the same player without JT next to him.

I just wish we could have had JT at the world cup... exactly what we have been lacking and alongside Cahill is a very good partnership

Two players the English media pummeled constantly while they were/are in this country have scored both winners against us this tournament.#extra5percent#balotelli#suarez

I seen someone tweet they will laugh everytime opposing fans sing 'Luis Suarez, you know what you are'

He know's what he is, the person who all but knocked England out of the World Cup. Suarez popularity levels continuing to rise

Candreva doesn't exist on the right wing as long as its properly covered.

Take notes, Rooney.
