2014 World Cup thread

My pre world cup bet on Argentina in looking like poor business right now. Let's hope they grow into the competition and France and Germany are peaking too early or this world cup is going to end up costing me a fortune. My other bet on Chile making the semi finals looking good though.

Totally changed the point of the case to support your argument.

Tom Huddlestone is one of the very VERY VERY few holding midfielders who's English who has had a good season in the Premier League with a relegation tipped team. Despite what you say about him not being good enough or only good for championship team or any other rubbish... you tell me someone who has had a better season and who can replace Gerrard who isn't 30+ and who has the passing range he does?

One good season does not make him good enough to be on the world stage!!!! OMG seriously are you for real? He is now 27 and would of been in the England reckoning years ago when he was under Redknapp at Spurs when he was a regular. Steven Caulker was in a Cardiff City side that got relegated yet he was their best player so with your logic should he be at the World Cup as well? If you think that Huddlestone is a good as you reckon then why was he overlooked by Capello. Hull city were the only serious team who wanted him? Stoke were rumoured as were Cardiff. Now logic dictates class players play at the big clubs all over the world. None of those clubs came in for him because he has no footballing brain. The top managers have seen that but I take it you know best on that front and you are managing a world class team.

The debate isn't whether he is good enough for a top team it is who is the alternative?

You keep mentioning World Class teams don't want him like we actually have other World-Class options to choose from.... fact is we don't... that's the whole point.

The players that Roy took in midfield are still far better than Huddlestone. Now I dont know if that is above your level of intelligence to understand but good grief i would rather have seen Carrick over Huddlestone mentioned who is far more accomplished. Carrick could quite easily play the Pirlo role who you think Huddlestone can be compared to.

THANK THE LORD... SAVING GRACE. ;)

No need for that. If you cant debate it with trhe points I have given all along which you seem to ignored then you are no longer worth my time of day.

I already mentioned like several pages ago Carrick but fact is he's 32 now... it would be a backwards step in my view to bring him into the setup again..... Wilshere and Jordan Henderson don't possess the passing range Huddlestone has.. nor does any of the other midfielders in the setup.

Gerrard and Lampard hopefully going to retire, this is time to think forward not backward and start putting players like Carrick who will be 34 by the time of the Euro's.

Throwing players on the scrap heap because of how old they are. Pirlo, Maldini, Giggs, Scholes, Zoff. Are you seeing a pattern and want me to carry on?

I'd love Glen Hoddle again... admittedly there isn't much competition to take over England... but the man speaks so much sense and I think having him in any kind of capacity in the FA would help greatly. We need more people with these more modern and forward-thinking ideas so we can implement them.

He does talk sense but saying that so does Graham Taylor and we wouldn't want him back. We don't really have many options but I do like Hoddle. The guy I'd really like is Brendan Rodgers but there's no way he'll leave Liverpool until he feels like he's achieved all he can. It's a non starter though. Hodgson is manager and the FA say he'll be in charge for the Euro's.

They are all exceptional World-Class players though.. of course they are worth keeping. Michael Carrick isn't... he's very good when on form but not World Class. He's had a very ordinary season as well.. not worth bringing back in... Tom Huddlestone has had a better season than him anyway.

In all honesty we should be beating Uruguay nearly everytime, Italy think we are pretty much on same level if you ask me!

Lol, no. You've been reading too much chest thumping from english media.

Uruguay and Italy absolutely **** on England in terms of recent international record. You were the underdog from the start.

I'm staggered Iran aren't winning this match. Argentina haven't even been playing as a team. Utter, utter garbage.

Edit-and of course Argentina go and score

Messi plays well for a few minutes in the tournament, gets 2 goals. #skills

They are playing ***** but winning games which could be telling. They have to really improve though when they play better teams.

I honestly give up if you still think Huddlestone is Englands saviour in Midfield. We might as well turn the lights out on or National team if thats the case. Thank god you will never be the manager.

Iran were really unlucky. Should have had a penalty and they had a decent few chances to score. Credit to Quieroz. He has put together a well-drilled and organized side
