2014 World Cup thread

It's almost an embarrasment this is being played in the Maracana. I suppose not all the games can be great but this belongs in a world cup four years ago.

Did someone score? Jonathon Pearce got excited and woke me up.

That match had everything. Cure for insomnia, reasons to go to youtube and look at previous match highlights, think about the next Euro's.....

Crock of ****

I expect Belgium to be taken apart by the first decent team they come up against. Looked very poor for the vast majority of both games so far.

Is it just me or are Belgium looking awful this tournament? There's so much praise for the "inspired" substitutions but they're very lucky they have an easy group.

I cant stand Savage as a pundit because he's as thick as pig **** but he is hilarious as a co commentator. He completely loses the plot everytime he's on. Still talks utter bollocks mind.

I remember listening to him commentate on the United v Sunderland semi-final earlier in the year.. Never been more annoyed in my life than listening to him saying "he will score".. "you can tell he will score by the way he steps up".. "he never misses" before every United penalty, safe to say they all missed, he looked like a **** and his co-commentator was begging him to stop guessing.

So yeah, utter tool.. Makes me wonder how he even got a job with the BBC?

In terms of attacking I haven't seen a team where I've thought they're better than England in this World Cup.

It's just our central defence and central midfield which is really lacking.

You mean the entire defense surely?

I think the BBC like to show how tolerant they are by giving the mentally challenged and permanently baffled jobs and Savage definitely falls into that category.

France, Chile, Holland., Columbia, Germany, Costa Rica, Mexico, USA have all been better than England.

Dunno I was a fan of Baines... but he's had quite a poor showing by his standards.

I do think for FB's we have a lot of talent though, Shaw, Clyne, Walker, Baines hasn't become a bad player over night obviously. Chambers at Southampton is a talent as well.

Germany and Holland have had freak results vs Portugal and Spain respectively... but honestly... that's about it.

All the other teams you have mentioned have had a better approach to their games tactically... I wouldn't say they've been better with their attacking players though. More down to the manager than anything.

Many forget also Gibbs... After Cole the most experienced LB England have.

It's small margins.. Had we had a striker who was confident in front of goal it could have been a different story. Three key chances fell the way of Rooney and unfortunately he couldn't put them away

I agree we looked dangerous in attack, but we still only scored two goals and are out of the tournament so we cannot really comment on us being better than the sides that are still in the competition and progressing

All those teams have been better than England in the final third from what I've seen. Whether it's because of player ability, tactical approach or their managers is irrelevant. England have been poor. There's no getting away from it. I can't see why some people are so positive about England's performance.
