2014 World Cup thread

It's small margins.. Had we had a striker who was confident in front of goal it could have been a different story. Three key chances fell the way of Rooney and unfortunately he couldn't put them away

I agree we looked dangerous in attack, but we still only scored two goals and are out of the tournament so we cannot really comment on us being better than the sides that are still in the competition and progressing

Yeh true... I suppose I should of re-phrased it to..

I don't think I've seen a team in this World Cup which has looked more dangerous than England in the final third of the pitch.... honestly every time we got to that area I thought we looked really good... especially vs Italy. Best I've seen from England for a long while so certainly not all bad.

Even the "bad teams" on paper are producing good games at this World Cup... is this a contender for one of the best ever World Cup's so far? It's ****** mental.

All those teams have been better than England in the final third from what I've seen. Whether it's because of player ability, tactical approach or their managers is irrelevant. England have been poor. There's no getting away from it. I can't see why some people are so positive about England's performance.

There were certainly more bad than good but i can see the optimism from some people. Like i put in a previous comment, it is small margins. Rooney puts away one of his several fantastic chances this World Cup and we are probably through by now

Got to say that after this afternoons snoozefest this match is much needed.

And we were missing a real key player in Oxlade-Chamberlain.... I think this was a World-Cup where he could of tore teams like Italy to shreds.

Roy would probably put him in at left back.

Roy would probably put him in at left back.

He could of been a very good option at CM alongside Henderson.... **** there is so many possibilities with him I would of bet he could of done a better job than Johnson at Right-Back for sure :P

France, Chile, Holland., Columbia, Germany, Costa Rica, Mexico, USA have all been better than England.

Funny you should mentioned USA, I seen a very funny link of England going for Jurgen Klinsmann as England manager to replace Hodgson... but ****... I'd love that... it wouldn't happen because our FA lacks any ambition but I bet it would be something he'd consider as well. He's German admittedly... but I really like him.

I have absolutely no optimism for the future, and If we get beaten on Tuesday we should wait at the airport for them coming home so we can pelt them with rotten tomatoes. Italian fans have the right idea. Every time their players get pelted with tomatoes they get to the final of the next tournament.

I have optimism in the players we have at our disposal. I don't have optimism in a manager i believe cannot set them up correctly and use them to their full abilities

I could be completely biased as i have seen just how bad Hodgson was at Liverpool but i think he is a bottom half of the league kind of manager, not an international or top side manager

We can do better than Hodgson no doubt about it. I have no faith at all in him as England manager.

France, Columbia, Costa Rica, Netherlands, Chile, Brazil, Germany.. etc. etc. clubs who have looked "more dangerous" than us in the final third. We've been slow, predictable and pretty ineffective at everything other than drilling the ball across the box in some desperate Unitedesq fashion. I think to say we look the most dangerous team in the tournament is just ridiculous.

He's out of his depth, in every sense. Tactically inept and not cut out to manage top clubs/nations.. Sadly he will be in charge for at least the next two years, because, as we know, it's more important for the FA to look good than it is for England to actually move forward.

Slow and predictable vs Italy? Disagree. Well it was better than anything I saw in 2010... so I'm taking it as an improvement... **** it... let me be optimistic in some way about England... honestly. >.<

It's easy to say we can... but realistically.... who?

If we persist in English managers, there is not many names but if we go for any manager there will be countless better options than Roy

When the England job becomes available more names would come forward.. Even Mourinho was close to taking it

Who though? I genuinely can't think of many.... David Moyes? Lol.

I thought Jose never had any intention of taking it... if it was true... can't blame him, but still.

Really? If there was two words to describe Brazil it would be slow and predictable... have they really been any good?

Germany is just... Germany... not been that good so far but honestly their midfield is absolutely out of this world... I think it helps them control games better regardless. Not considering dinosaur manager Hodgson or tactics in any of this.

Give us their midfield with our attack and it would be interesting.

A lot of international teams go for ex players. Legends. You mentioned Klinsmann, he'd never coached or managed any team until he took over Germany. Why not appoint our own Klinsmann? Why couldn't an Alan Shearer or Gary Neville manage England? Personally id give Hoddle another crack of the whip but that's just my opinion.

Klose and Mueller though.

REALLY????????????

Gary Neville isn't a bad shout but I'd imagine he's in top contention when dinosaur Hodgson goes... I assume anyway.
