2014 World Cup thread

All the referees in World Cup games - past or present, have always underperformed. This is because of FIFA's stupid policy to let every country bring a single referee instead of having all the best referees in the world. Poor refereeing had always been part of WC, with the South Korean ones being the most obvious ones and now Brazil, because the hosts are always the focus point. You can't deny that some of the decisions going South Korea's way back then were absolutely mind-boggling, mistakes that should never happen in top class football.

My point is that the biggest football tournament in the whole world should be refereed by the best referees in the world, not referees from some random countries who might not even have much exposure to the biggest footballing stage.

All you have provided there is what you agreed to earlier in the thread. Below par refereeing. This has happened in a majority of matches. Mexico had two goals disallowed in their first game which were legitimate. Robben dived and got a late penalty. Giroud eye gouged and stayed on the pitch. Yet because the refs have been below par in a couple of Brazil matches you have convinced yourself it is all fixed in Brazil's favour.
A couple of Brazil matches. Name "a couple" of Germany, France, England,Argentina or whatever matches. You can't, because there are no " a couple" of matches in those cases.
And for the last time, am i speaking english or what? How many times do i have to say, that i never said the games are fixed?

God help this thread if Brazil beat Germany by a penalty. I can hear the words "conspiracy theory" being shouted from the roof tops.

Anyhow in other more interesting news here are the line-ups.

Argentina starting XI: Romero, Garay, Zabaleta, Biglia, Di Maria, Higuain, Messi (c), Mascherano, Demichelis, Lavezzi, Basanta.
Belgium starting XI: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany (c), Vertonghen, Witsel, De Bruyne, Fellaini, Hazard, Mirallas, Van Buyten, Origi.

I am not going over the same points yet again to you that you can't provide any factual evidence that refs have been in favour of any one team when a majority have been under par. It is starting to bore now.

Origi starts again over Lukaku. He has grabbed his opportunity and fits better in Belgiums tactics.

Argentina have no natural left backs, although I have no idea how good Basanta is. Anyone knows if he is good enough as a left back?

OH joy more bollocks from Chiles and his clowns except maybe Cannevaro. Wonder what donkeys are commentating.

A true poacher's goal. I think it was Vertonghen that di Maria's pass meant for Zabaleta bounced off.

Belgium are at risk here. Argentina are stepping up. Now we will see if the Belgium subs can make a difference again.

Been really disappointed with Hazard this tournament. Great player but too inconsistent and goes missing too often in games

Before the World Cup started I said this would be a Belgium side that would use this as an experience and build for the Euro's. This is too soon to judge a young talented side.

I don't think Hazard did anything at all this whole World Cup though, other than an assist in the game against Russia. He was invisible for more than 450 minutes of football.

Thats his problem. He is wildly inconsistent. It's time he stops talking about emulating Ronaldo/Messi and focusing on his game a little

true but dont think many of the so called stars have turned up for this world cup

Neymar was Brazil's only bright spark, Messi pretty much carried Argentina this far same can be said for Robben, Rodrigez, Shaqiri and Sanchez have all had solid tournaments. It's been a decent world cup for most of the bigger name players, the ones who've done poorly were ones most people were expecting to do so.

Think De Bryune has been Belgium most consistent player, great potential that lad cant believe Chelsea sold him.
