2014 World Cup thread

A problem for alot of the Brazilian squad is the fact they have hardly had a break in over a year. They have gone from the Confederations cup win straight back to league football and then into a World cup. Most looked exhausted.

Did someone say Scolari is the problem?

Won a World Cup previously with Brazil. Took a Portugal side to a European Championship Final. He took over the squad when they were really struggling and won a Confederations Cup with them. Yeah he really is a problem. Laughable. Probably said from a bitter Chelsea fan.

The reason why Brazil struggled was because of the expectations put upon them and the intense pressure from everyone thinking they were going to win this with flair and exciting football. They are the victims of their own success in many ways. It is sad to see a team with so much tradition capitulate so easy.

Brazil need to have an overhaul of their football like Germany did in 2000.

Scolari left out Filipe Luis, Miranda, Coutinho, Rafinha and Lucas Moura. All good players who would have contributed to the squad. Miranda and Filipe Luis would probably have been starters as well

Absolutely 0 tactical shrewdness. Winning? Bring on Ramires. Losing? Bring on Ramires. After the season Ramires has had, I was surprised to even see him in the squad, much less play a role

Built the entire team game-plan and psyche around Neymar. You could see in the build-up the semi-final that the entire belief of Brazil shattered when Neymar got injured

His tactics are downright disgusting. Knew he couldn't match Colombia in terms of football so he attempted to kick them off the park

Fact is that this Brazilian squad is quite solid. They really shouldn't be losing 7-1 to Germany and getting outclassed by the Dutch. Brazil were very lucky to get as far as they did which shouldn't be the case. They didn't look convincing in any single game

100% agree with this.

Last year Paulinho looked a revelation in the Confeds cup. He looks exhuasted this year. When he signed for Tottenham he got injured and just looks on the lethargic side as do many of the Brazilians. love the part of the bitter Chelsea fans. Every time one gets sacked from there for poor results Chelsea fans seem to hold a grudge against that manager regardless of what he has won before at the top level. Shows how little they know if it has not got anything Mourinho stamped all over it.

The fact that he ignored Filipe for Maxwell and then Miranda for Henrique (lol) is way too costly for the team. It basically shows the players that Scolari does not even care if they perform well or not for their club, because he already had his 23 players in his mind and nothing would ever change it.

And I have no idea why Hernanes is not playing in this World Cup, when the midfield of Brazil is screaming for creativity. Scolari would rather have Fernandinho, Paulinho and Ramires playing despite them not showing anything that they deserves to be on the pitch, again and again.

He is not the main reason that the team capitulated so spectacularly, but he should no longer be the manager of Brazil.

So basically you are going to refuse to reply to any of my points and just resort to ad hominem attacks? Nicely done. And stop this rubbish about lethargic players, every national team contains players who have just come off an exhausting club season so it's not like Brazil are at a disadvantage or something

I think it's a given that whenever a team performs poorly, both the managers and players are at fault. I just feel that while Scolari was probably let down by his players in some matches, he wouldn't have won the WC anyways with his tactics and player selection

I have only mentioned about lethargic players the once. And I was talking my point to Passenaccio and agreeing with him. I can't help it you are an sensitive soul. Probably why I ignored your post anyhow as I knew you would get your pants in a twist about it.

It's because you mentioned Chelsea. They are probably the most protective fans in the league as everyone else has a history based on hard work. Bless them.

Back to tonight's game. Come on Argentina. My tip from the very start.

On a side note why are all the BBC team sitting in suits and ties just for the final?

Keep the handbags for the club threads and stick to the topic of this thread please.

I'll be rooting for the Germans tonight. going for a 1-0 courtesy of the usual counter attack move.

Stuffy old BBC making all their presenters and pundits wear suits and ties today in the heat of Rio. Idiots.

I'm actually going to be sad this tournament is coming to and end. So many highlights and been so enjoyable.

Kind of glad its over tbh. I thought it was best football event in many many years, but watching 60+games within a month really takes a toll. Think I picked up like 7 kilos just from all the beer, doritos and hours in front of the telly.

This is the BBC team of the tournament. 4-2-3-1

Manuel Neuer (Germany), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Giancarlo Gonzalez (Costa Rica), Mats Hummels (Germany), Daley Blind (Netherlands), Javier Mascherano (Argentina), Toni Kroos (Germany), Arjen Robben (Netherlands), Lionel Messi (Argentina), James Rodriguez (Colombia), Thomas Muller (Germany)

And this is Opta rankings based on stats. 4-2-3-1

Tim Howard (USA), Marcos Rojo (Argentina), Mats Hummels (Germany), Stefan de Vrij (Netherlands), Dani Alves (Brazil), James Rodriguez (Colombia), Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland), Toni Kroos (Germany), Juan Cuadrado (Colombia), Thomas Muller (Germany), Karim Benzema (France)

That's true. My lifestyle habits were changing for the better prior to the tournament. Seem to have nosedived lately lol. Need to shape up before the football league starts in less than a month lol
