2014 World Cup thread

That's certainly true. But different to what you were saying before.

also what the **** do we do till the season starts?

Follow the transfer window? Laugh at Messi getting golden ball?

Yeh I know, I',m clearly not doubting Messi's credentials or anything. But honestly, I can't get over this is bananas.

Mascherano bailed them out whole tournament, honestly it's a joke to man-kind and football as a sport he has won golden ball. It goes on pure reputation first, performance second, if a guy with high reputation does well he'll most likely win it over someone with a lower reputation who does very well.

thing is though the winner right now is going to be Rodriguez. He's going to be head hunted by a lot of clubs-he had a fantastic tournament and he's going to go on to do some very big things for some very big clubs.

Joke to mankind and football?? I think you are taking this way too far. Yes I would have picked 2-3 players ahead of him but you can't discount the fact that Messi did have a very good tournament and Argentina are a much worse team without him

Yes he ******* is.... it's proven with the golden ball he clearly doesn't deserve at all. Ohhh right he's the best player of the generation in your eyes so he deserves every award going no matter how bad he plays? He was good this world-cup in spells but no where near golden ball winner... I'm sorry.

2 words.... Wilf Zaha.... err.

2 words... James Rodriguez. 2 words Thomas Muller and other before him.

If any other player had had Lionel Messi's world cup, a world cup where he single-handedly dragged his team through the group stages and round of 16 AND dominated his quarter final and semi, everyone would be all over him. You're just strawmanning with that bit about deserving every award, but hey, I expected no less from you.

James Rodriguez had a very good World Cup, but he didn't dominate games like Messi did. His first goal was in garbage time against a beaten Greece, his second came from awful marking against the Ivory Coast, and he played decently but not superlatively against those two teams. Then against Japan we saw what he could truly do after he came off the bench and played well. It was only against Uruguay that he properly hit top form, before carrying that on to Brazil.

My point is, had Rodriguez not been there Colombia could've gone as far as they did anyway. Without Messi, Argentina probably wouldn't have made it out of the group stage.

As for Wilf Zaha... he has literally no relation to this debate at all and I have no idea why you're bringing him up other than just idle stupidity.

Going to take big money to get him to move though. He has been highly rated for years and plays for Monaco who aren't exactly a financial mess atm

Yeah be interesting to see just how much money parts hands to prize him away-I suspect a record breaking amount

I don't want to turn this into a 'Ronaldo vs Messi' debate but that's clearly rubbish

"a joke to mankind."

Not sure I can say anything to make that sound more ridiculous.

Who though? Monaco bought him for a lot, they won't let him go for peanuts, and they have him on a long contract. He'll have suitors, but they'd better turn up with the big money.

And I'll argue Mascherano was more worthy than Messi even if we just take the Argentina team alone. But you know what, we all know he wasn't considered because where he plays for the team.

I'm bringing up Zaha because you think I mean Messi is over-hyped as a player, clearly not. I'm talking about in certain situations, are you really trying to justify Messi getting the golden ball or am I missing the point of your long replies?

Honestly I don't even want to attempt a guess as I honestly don't have a clue. Like I mentioned it's going to take some major cash payment to land him. All the usual suspects like Man Utd etc etc etc are linked-but I don't even think they'd be able to afford what Monaco would demand. Saying that, didn't he say he'd only go to Real Madrid?

Right.... and.... Real Madrid aren't a club to throw big money at young pretty white faces? Of course they'll bid huge, just to make a point as well, like always.

You are making it sound as if David Luiz has just won the Golden ball or smt. Yes there were a couple of players who arguably performed better than Messi over the tournament but you cannot deny that he had a very good tournament either way

A joke to the man who watches football, do you really have to over-analyse everything. I'm over-reacting to such a ridiculous decision to give Messi golden ball and you're here being Mr.Analyst on my every word.

It's interesting. Real Madrid have never been averse to spending huge money but this time, it will really take an astronomical fee to pry Rodriguez. Can't see it happening tbh

Certainly remains to be seen. I suspect it's going to be like you said astronomical

That's not what in bringing up, I'm of the opinion that messi is the best player ever to have lived, I just think that ribery had a better season than him 2 seasons ago.

Pretty good by a normal man's standards, not for him. Still would of chose others, you expect more from Messi than what he delivered IMO.
