I'm currently starting my 5th season at Man Utd (2018/19), and am looking for a 3-5-2 formation to experiment a little with. My normal formation is the 4-1-2-3 tactic posted by badmantrois, but I have a young regen striker who is now world class that I'd like to try and play up top with Zivkovic. In my normal formation, I have Depay and Januzaj on the wings who dominate all the time, but I'd like to try this as a way of giving them a rest.

I was thinking something like this:
Zivkovic---(Regen)

Pogba---Strootman

Shaw---------------Romero--------------Clyne

Stones---Jones---Vallejo(or a regen)

De Gea

Any feedback (roles, instructions, fluidity, mentality) is appreciated

Start with a standard mentality and fluidity and observe what your players do and how they use the space on the flanks.

Pogba has good finishing and long shots so he did great when I used him as a central mifielder (attack).
Strootman can be used as a DLP (support) and Romero as a DM (defense) since his defensive skills are better than his attacking and his physical attributes are also good.

Zivkovic should play as an advanced forward with a false nine next to him in my opinion.

The formation is unique by having only two wide mids as wide players. You need to stretch your opponents wide, so they should ideally be given attack duty. Or you will struggle. Giving them a support duty would mean you are just trying to contain a superior opponent. Giving them a defend duty would fit a fluid style, but you would need other roles that go into winger or wide forward position. You have one CM, whome you can give attack duty so he goes into AMC area, but in that case, both AMC's and the striker should have attack duties, so that they aren't in each others spaces. Which would fit a structured style, or your striker would struggle with lack of space. Your CM could be given a support duty, meaning you ask him only to do the basics, which would fit a highly structured style, but again, that style usually goes with supporting wide mids, which leaves him with defend duty, which would fit a fluid setup. In that setup, he would remain at his position, and he should ideally be a holding mid, a CMd or a DLPd. A DLPd would drop deeper and you should be pushing up, so your CD's will be in that space, meaning your only option is CMd. You should give your amcs attack duties so they go into striker position, and striker a support duty, so he goes into amcs position, which would fit a fluid style and to have all space covered, and movement. I would also recommend the use of non specialised roles, since you will be playing fluidly. A SKs might be of use to sweep up through balls when you push up.

It's a shame if depay not included in core formation
