So, ive got a 4-2-3-1 attacking ball possession team, very patient, probing pass,pass,pass type team. Problem is my amc tends to sit back, inside forwards pick the ball up cut inside dribble,dribble,dribble, shoot. repeatedly all the time never ever pass to the forward.
The forward might as well be non existent this leads to few ccc fewer goals and frustration also this happens too fast so mostly my wing backs cant catch up or the wide players just wont pass. I end up with 30 shots 10 on target and about 1 or 2 of those is from the striker. its a very slow wide and patient build up play until this happens. Before anyone says; yes i have the shots at a minimum on the instructions.
my team set up is;

DLP D BWM D
IF A AP S IF A
DLF S

this is from someone struggling mightly esp with 4-2-3-1 but still...

IF on attack will look to run at defence and crerate scoring chances for themselves. Try support maybe, with FB's/WB's on attack? or maybe one side FB S/IF A and the other WB A/IF S.

also the DLF S won't create much movement as he tends to come deep, an AF might create more space moving off the ball and make himself available for through balls and crosses. If you want to use DLF S then set your AP/AM on A so there will be movement between them.

this should make some sense though it's all theory tbh...

I use the exact same formation and almost the same setup. I have my BWM on support, so he acts like a middleman for my dlp and ap. My striker is setup as an Advanced Forward Attack. So far after 19 games he is my top scorer with 15 goals.

I initially went with a 4231 this year, but I could not get it working as well as I wanted, due to the same issues. What I decided to do instead was move my AMC into a False 9 next to my Poacher and I haven't looked back since. Once recommendation someone gave to me when I was using the 4231, don't use 2 IF's. Use 1 and either a winger or an AP as your other winger. The IF's tend to take up a lot of the same space on the field when cutting and such, especially if they have a lot of freedom. I'd really recommend moving the AMC though if you are open to it. Made a world of difference for me.

I've also had difficulty implementing a 4-2-3-1 FM14 thus far. Just going to keep experimenting I guess.

I go with wingers instead of inside forwards, because when they cut inside it seems to restrict room and less space to pass,etc. Very similar to tottenham this season. Playing with wingers stretches teams and allows your am and striker to have more room. There is aslo more crosses and space for your 2 cms and am to play in triangles.
