Here i was having fun playing with Wolfsburg using a Control tactic home and away, but away wasn't working so i decided to switch to Counter but keep everything else the same.. Well it worked very well. In fact i'm having better results away than at home (Except away at Bayern where i got trounced) which is something really rare for me in FM15.

Player instructions

AML, AMC, AMR and the Box to Box all have Shoot less often and All Defenders have pass it shorter

The only Players attribute i've seen as real important is the Poachers's pace BUT Bas Dos (12 Acc, 13 Speed) didn't have any problem Scoring, he had 31 goals the whole Season, Second best Scorer was the IF and sometimes Poacher Schurrle with 26 Goals. AP will bag loads of assists De Bruyne had of 33 Assists and an average Rating of 7.97..
Also make sure your CM(d) is a good tackler, Luiz Gustavo averaged around 17 tackles a game and had an average rating of 7.42

Results ( Only used this in Away Games and in the Europa League final which was a Neutral game)

If you try it tell me how it works for you

Since this is the discussion part of the forum - do you know/care why counter suits this tactic more than control?

do I care? yes, do i know? no. i'm not a FM know it all, i play it for fun.. i always try to create a high tempo short passing game, but it just wasn't workingaway, i also don't usually like playing a poacher, unless it's a 2 striker tactic but Dost isn't good at any Support Striker roles which is what i like to play with one.

If you care to explain why it works better with Counter, i'm all ears

This away tactic isn't high tempo, except when a counter is on. Your front 3 will benefit with a lower mentality as they won't be as aggressive bombing forward. Your tactic as a Control version (assuming you're trying to break down defences) is poor is there's no movement between the lines from anyone. It's one-dimensional, which also suits a counter tactic more.

You don't really seem to want to play on the counter that much, if your defenders have been asked to play shorter. This will help, since defenders are quite direct with a Counter mentality. With a Control mentality, their passing is already quite short. It does beg the question, why not Play Out of Defence? It does the same thing and is easier to control.

The roles (as well as the front three duties I mentioned) just suit a counter game more. You have too little movement otherwise.

To be honest, i always try to create something different, most of my tactics have play out of defence, i get bored if i use the same tactic or very similar tactics for too long

what do you think would be beneficial to this tactic (as counter)

It doesn't look like you have lots of problems away from home, imo. One thing I would say though is that your front 4 will all be looking to attack and not support each other. Maybe try and put in a support duty?

Yeah, 90% of the time i use a Support role on a Striker, but this Wolfsburg team simply didn't have the striker to play a support role, Wingers on Support are a no-no to me because all they do is cross, AP(A) was the best way to make the most out of KDB and the same goes for Schurrle. In the second season, i'm working towards a more possesion oriented game at least at home, and i'm looking to use a F9 (Aaron Hunt has the right attributes for it)

Then you're all good :)
