A New Era in Dutch Football - Vitesse

October

vmHP3rQ.png

While riding on a high from the Bayern result we welcomed Feyenoord who are a point a head of us in the league so we needed a result. They were ahead at half time meaning we really went through the lads at half time and a 2 goals in 2 minutes was the difference thanks to Perez and van Grinkel. We then got a good result against Ajax as both teams were defensively sound. We weren't able to beat Olympiakos away from home but a point is good away from home. Buitink put us ahead twice but we weren't able to hold on.

Back to the national games and we grind out a tough result against Emmen with Buitink finally getting back on the score sheet in the league again with the end goal coming from Sergio Gomez. The big talking point of the month though comes in the first round of the cup. We rotate the squad a bit here and Tom Cohen is given his first start for the club and he goes ad bags himself a hat-trick. He can go on to great things it seems from the early signs.the other goals came from Perez, Gilmour and Bella-Kotchap.

We have a nice mix this month between League matches and Champions League. We start off against league rivals AZ who we dominate and go in at half time 4-0 up thanks to Unuvar, Schiappacasse and Buitink. We then welcome Olympiakos where Gilmour and Buitink give us the 3 points to give us a chance of getting in the top 2. Perez and Gomez get us the goals in the 2nd half against FC Groningen to keep our chase going on Ajax. Against FC Twente Unuvar gets the only goal of the game in the final minute of the first half.

We welcome Atletico in the Champions League and they just blow us away as we have no answer to us. It means we will need a win in our final game to progress in the Champions League but we are guarenteed 3rd so we will still be in Europe after Christmas. In the final game of the month against Zwolleit takes a final minute winner from Gomez to secure the 3 points.

Buitink is really struggling so far this season but seems to save his performances for the big games which is always handy.

We have a good month and get off to a winning start against Feyenoord when Bella-Kotchap and Cohen get the goals. Against Bayern we were so close to getting a draw but Bella-Kotchap scores a horrendous own goal in the 92nd minute to hand Bayern the 3 points. You wouldn't of wanted to come up against us in the next game as we had a point to prove and NAC Breda were unfortunate it was them as Alvaraz and Majer both got a brace with Buitink, van Ginkel and Urzi getting in on the action as well.

In the cup we were able to rotate the team a bit to give people a run out and we had 5 different scorers as Hajek got a brace with Unuvar, Gilmour and Alvarez getting the rest. Against Ajax we made sure they weren't able to increase their lead at the top as we managed to hold them to a respectable goalless draw. Against Fortuna Sittard Cohen took his chance again as he had us 2-0 up after just 4 minutes with Urzi adding another 2 before half time.

We can be very proud of this table given if we'd won our final game then we would of gone through instead of Bayern thanks to the head to heads but we drop down into the Europa League instead where we have been drawn against Dortmund.

January

We come back after the winter break raring to go and we face FC Emmen in the cup and we put out a strong team for this one and Alvarez, Buitink, Unuvar and Schiappacasse get us the 4 goals to see us progress to the Quarter Finals. We follow that up with a big game against PSV where Buitink got both goals either side of a goal from Gakpo for a big win. Buitink seems to have found his scoring boots again as he bags another brace against Go Ahead Eagles to get us off to a good start before Unucar, Majer and Bella-Kotchap add to the total as well. The match against FC Groningen was our hardest of the month as we struggled to a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Alvarez.

Transfers Out

54fpFZC.png

There are no big surprises here as we sell off a number of players from the B team along with Tomas Hajek who has fallen down the pecking order this season so we are happy to cash in on him while we get a decent fee for him.

Transfers In

x2vuwe3.png

We have been scouring the transfer market to bring in bargains that will improve our squad and let us sell them for a profit when we secure better players. Arezo is a player we had agreed a deal with during the summer. Aleana was transfer listed by Barcelona and with Gilmour's loan ending in the summer then we needed somebody to come in to step up and replace him. The rest of the players that have come in are young and our scouts have done an excellent job in finding them. 3 of them we are hoping will e come first team players and I will introduce you to them below.

Jorge Nunez is a LB from Paraguay who will provide back up to Lato with the view of taking over in a year or two.

Lgpb2hO.png

Diego Velazquez is an exciting keeper from Argentina who already looks like he can be our first team keeper and will be given chances over the rest of the season with the aim of being No.1 next season

gYRAMNV.png

Bryan Ayovi as young Ecuadorian CB who already has 2 international caps who will hopefully get the training required to turn him into a world class player.

First things first this month after making it through the transfer window with receiving no offers for Buitink he has decided that he no longer wants to leave the club and is even willing to sign a new contract which now ties him to the club until 2025.

We get the month off to a good start as Araujo, Urzi and Cohen manage to see off Az while Ajax drop points to NAC Breda to let us go top of the table for the first time this season. Cohen then adds to his goal tally against VVV-Venlo to see us into the semi finals which see's us meet club expectations in the competition. Buitink and Majer then get the goals to see us beat Twente to hold onto top spot in the league. the big game of the month though was the home match against Dortmund and Urzi bent them over and shafted them as he scored and excellent hat-trick in the opening half hour to give us a massive win and all but our progress in the competition.

Against Utrecht we rotate the squad with the next match against Dortmund and it doesn't pay off as Gilmuor gets the only goal of the game and Ajax reclaim top spot. Against Dortmund we played really well but were undone by a penalty but luckily the 1st leg result see's us through to play Napoli. We round the month off with a tough match against Ado Den Haag as we went 4-0 up through 2 goals from Cohen, Bella-Kotchap and Schiappacasse after 64 minutes but in the final 15 minutes of the game our heads dropped and we just managed to hold onto the win. The other upside is Ajax ended up losing their match so we finish the month off top of the league.

What a result against Dortmund! And being top of the league in under 2 years in charge isn't bad either!

We start off welcoming Napoli and we get off to a quick start with Gilmour opening the scoring in the 1st minute. They equalise just before half time to give us a wrrying draw. We nearly throw away a 3-0 lead after Buitink and Ayovi put us ahead but we manage to hold on. We travel ot Italy and put in an unbeliveable performance thanks to a goal from Majer and then 2 late goals from Urzi and Araujo to see us into the Quarter Finals of the Europa League.

We're straight into another big game as we face PSV in the cup and we fall 1-0 behind but goals from van Ginkel, Alvarez and young Cohen see's us cruise to a 3-1 win. We then drop points against Heracles but thankfully Ajax have dropped them as well. We round the month off with a win against Emmen with goals from Barca graduate Perez and Alena.

Its a **** of a month as we start off against Go Ahead Eagles thanks to Unuvar, Alena and 2 goals from Buitink. We then travel to Spain in the Europa League and we put in another massive performance as Bella-Kotchap gets us off to a great start before Sidibe doubles the lead just after half time. Urzi then gets an excellent brace to round of a brilliant match that the club can be proud of. The match against Heerenveen was much closer than it looked as we rode our luck when they scored an own goal in the 3rd minute before waiting until the 90th minute when Urzi knocked in a lose ball.

The return leg we struggle but Urzi puts us ahead before Bilbao rescue the draw right before the final whistle but the first leg is enough to see us into the Semi Finals. Next is our first cup final and sadly Dost scores the winner in the 90th minute which was heart breaking for the fans but it will just drive us on more for next year. We bounce back though against Zwolle thanks to goals from Unuvar, van Ginkel and 2 goals from Buitink. This win means that we will have Champions League football again next year. We round the month off with a loss to RB Leipzig in the Semi Final of the Europa League. Luckily we will play the 2nd leg in front of our own fans.

We start the month off losing against Willem II which isn't the best but we rested nearly all our players for the 2nd leg of the Europa League Semi final. What was annoying was we lost with a penalty being scored with the final kick of the ball. Against Leipzig we managed to ****** a 1-0 victory thanks to Buitink which meant we took the tie to penalties which we won 6-5 meaning we make the final where we will face Manchester United. In the final game of the season we rotate the squad to give some other players a run out and Unuvar gets the only goal of the game just before half time.

We then play two friendlies to make sure everybody is kept match fit which we win both games comfortably to give us confidence going into the Europa League Final.

In the final we actually perform really well but a single goal from Alex Telles in the 41st minute is enough to separate the two teams come the time of the final whistle. Its annoying to lose but considering the strength of the Man Utd squad I'm happy that we kept it to only 1-0 and it gave the players the experience of playing in a European Final.

League

There certainly seems to be a power shift with Ajax dropping points on the final day of the season to allow Feyenoord to grab 2nd spot over them meaning Ajaz miss out on Champions League football.

Good to see Marco van Ginkel smashing player of the season along with winning signing of the season. It shows how important he's been in the middle of the park this season.

Budget

uZUPpGg.png

Not the biggest budget and we will have to look at selling players to then bring in the quality we need to keep competing at the top of the league.

Transfers Out

fi3AuNU.png

We have so far shipped a few players out but the big one is Sergio Gomez leaving to go to RB Leipzig for £36 million. He took the hump when we rejected an offer from Manchester United and submitted a transfer request so we were happy to let him go. The funds will go towards replacing him in the centre of the park. At least we received double what we paid for him 12 months ago so got to be happy with that. The other big transfer out was Claudio Ramos who we signed on a free for £7.25 million. Julian Alvarez also left for £10 million as he wasn't going to be getting much football and falling down the pecking order.

Transfers In

hdih49i.png

To replace Sergion Gomes we bring in the next big thing in central midfield from Dutch football form Ajax in Ryan Gravenberch. £35 million might be a lot of money but he can go on to be a real force for us and it also weakens Ajax further in the process as well which is even better. We also sign Kayahan Cakirefe from Austria Wien who was brought to the clubs attention by the scouts at the start of last season but we couldn't strike a deal and he appeared on the transfer list towards the end of last season so we snapped him up.

He looks like he is going to be a right force for years to come.

EcAANyk.png

We are sill in the market for a number of players if the right ones appear as we have lost out to a number of Premier League clubs for a number of players.

Preseason

rwSXm5i.png

So our preseaso couldn't of gone much better as we go unbeaten across all of it with Brighton causing us the only issue. The big match of preseason though was the Dutch curtain raiser the Johan Cruiff Schaal which we lost last season to Ajax. We perform a lot better this season against Feyenoord as we're 2-0 up in only 14 minutes thanks to Urzi and Buitink. Buitink then got his second in the 26th minute meaning the game was all but over. Alena then added the 4th in the 62nd minute to see us win the opening cup.

Expectations

D7hcbJt.png

Everything seems to be pretty standard after last season and we should be able to attack on all fronts if everything goes to plan.

Transfers Out

s3j3hVb.png

So we'll start with the end of the transfer window as everything got a bit mental as offers came in and turned peoples heads so they had no place in the squad. First was Lovro Majer who had his head turned by Manchester United and he handed a transfer request in after the first bid was rejected but we made a £21 million profit so that's not too bad. Next on deadline day our main man Buitink left for Arsenal for 73 million. It was the 2nd time he'd thrown his toys out the pram so was happy to let him go as he under performed last season and for £73 million it was too much to turn down. We then saw Toni Lato leave for PSV where we made £17 million profit. Perez left for Az where we made a £13.5 million profit. The last piece of business was Tarin leaving for Az as well where we make another £5 million profit. It was a much busier end to the window than I expected and wanted for outgoings but if players don't want to be part of the clubs journey then off they go.

Transfers In

FMKheUo.png

I decided that this season that if one of our players leaves then if we can replace them with a dutch player of similar or better capability then we will go after the,. First in we snapped up Mohamed Ihttaren from PSV for £20 million to replace Majer. We then returned to PSV to sign Donyell Malen for a whopping £47 million to replace Buitink as we have also lost Cohen for 6 months thanks to a broken leg. We then went to Az to bring in Kenzo Goudmijn who will play backup in central midfield. With Lato leaving we revinvested the cash plus a bit more to bring in Alphonso Davies who should do well in theis league. We also went to Nantes to sign Thomas Basila who will be form a strong partnership with Bella-Kotchap over the next few seasons. Finally with Perez leaving we needed another RW and we sign young Portuguese winger Rogerio Oliveira from Basel. £10.5 million is a lot for an 18 year old but hopefully we will reap the rewards.

FIXWvD9.png

Now down to the league action and we have a great month with going unbeaten and only conceding 1 goal as while scoring 12. First up against Willem II we fell 1-0 behind before Unuvar, Bella-Kotchap, Majer and Buitink get the goals. Against VVV-Venlo Bella-Kotchap gets another 2 goals to make it 3 from the opening 2 games. Ajax were not match for us at all in the first meeting as Majer and Buitink sweep them aside with a goal each. Against De Graafshap we has already accepted the offer on Buitink so Cohen was given his chance and took it with getting the opening goal before Cakirefe got the second but late in the game thanks to a terrible tackle Cohen came away with a broken leg and will be out for 6 months. In the final game Ihattaren opens his account for the club in only the 2nd minute before Buitink gets the 2nd in the 16th minute.

Injuries

zI9Ffpe.png

So to show how hard this month is going to be we are missing a number of key players for a number of weeks if not months. We even start the month with no fit strikers. We even recalled Arezo from his loan to cover and he even managed to get injured in training as well

September

VcoWIEi.png

Against Az it was a ping pong battle with us taking the lead 3 times. Schiappacasse is having to play as striker and he has stepped into the role well with 2 goals before Ihattaren got the winner. Against Benfica they just proved too strong as we fell 2-0 behind before Schiappacasse grabs a consolation goal but 2-1 was respectable with the players we are missing. We nearly throw away a 3-0 lead against Cambuur but the goals from Schiappacasse, Unuvar and a debut goal from Oliveira were enough to see us get the 3 points. The defence came together against Feyenoord as we kept a clean sheet and the goals came from Araujo before Alena got a brace. We round the month off with getting our first win of the Champions League as we put 3 goals past Lokomotiv Moscow thanks to a quick opening goal from Davies in the 2nd minute before Alena and Arezo got the next 2.

October

We get off to a strong start this month now we can put out a full strength team and FC Groningen couldn't handle us as Cakirefe, Gravenberch and Alena got the goals. Against Fortuna Sittard Malen got his first goal for the club which gives him a bit of confidence after his injury. Alena and Bella-Kotchap got the other two goals. For a change of pace we welcomed Lyon in the Champions League and we took the lead in through Gravenberch in the 29th minute before Lyon equalised in the 56th minute.

Back to league action at home against our fierce rivals and its our first Gelderse Derby since I took over at the club and we give our fans the bragging rights through Unuvar, Basila and Davies. In the 1st round of the cup we were able to rotate the squad with only Malen and Velazquez keeping their places in the startig XI and Malen repays that by getting the opening goal before Cakirefe scored and excellent brace before Mirada rounded off the scoring. With us facing a game against Lyon at the start of November so the same squad went out and they destroyed NAC Breda with Malen getting a brace before Basila, Cakirefe and Goudmin get the other 3.

We get a well deserved point against Lyon that leaves us with a chance of getting out of the group. Back to the league and Bella-Kotchap and Oliveira got the goals that got us the 3 points. We rotated the squad for the Utrecht game and Goudmijn got the opener before sub Alena got he 2nd which saw us win the game after falling 1-0 down early in the 1st half. We needed a performance agianst Benfica to ensure we stayed in the hunt and the lads delivered with a big win with goals from Cakirefe, Urzi and Ihattaren meaning if we win in the final game against Moscow we will finish in the top 2. The final game of the month we managed to throw away a 3-1 lead to drop our first points of the season. The goals came from Malen, Oliveira and Gravenberch.

We have a nice busy month to round off the year where we manage to add to our run another 7 unbeaten games. We got a big win in the league against PSV where Malen and Ihattaren come back to haunt their old team with a brace a piece. The rest of the month in League goes to plan as we sweep everybody else aside as we show our dominance. We have also progressed into the 3rd round of the cup as we look to retain our title.

The biggest game of the month though as the final game in the group stages of the Champions League against Lokomotiv Moscow where a win will be enough to see us through to the knockout rounds. It couldn't of gone any better for us as Malen bags a hat-trick and Unuvar gets the 4th to see us through where we will go on to face Liverpool

Transfers Out

2F2Wn40.png

The players who left the club on permanent deals were done as there as somebody on the transfer list who we wanted to bring to the club. We bring in some good money though with everybody sold for more than they were worth. We have decided to loan Tom Cohen out to get some valuable first team football after spending the last 6 months out with a broken leg and he hopefully comes back Stronger

Transfers In

The first player in is an 18 year old striker from Brazil who switched his international allegiance as soon as he moved to Europe. We have signed Guilherme Henrique from Santos for an eye watering £29 million but hopefully it will all be worth it as just look at those stats for an 18 year old.

snKITPM.png

Next in was the player we had to free cash up for so selling Urzi made sense to bring Steven Bergwijn back to Holland from Tottenham for £29 million. At only 24 he still has a bright future and can bring a lot to the team.

Things do not go to plan at the start of the month as we lose two games on the trot to end our unbeaten run in the league but the one ray of light in the middle of the two games was we did progress to the Semi Finals of the cup. We also faced Liverpool after the 2nd loss and managed to get a very respectable draw against them. We bounced back in the league against Cambuur though where Ihattaren was the standout performer with a hat-trick. We rounded the month off with a big win against Feyenoord were our midfield dominated and got all the goals as well.
