It's June 10th, before the start of the 2010/2011 Premier League season and I've just switched on Sky News. Along the bottom of the screen, scrolling across in front of a yellow background are words I can't quite believe and don't really want to, " Harry Redknapp has today called time on his football management career after 27 years".

I switch immediately to Sky Sports News! Apparently Redknapp has been dealing with health complications for the last year of his career and no longer feels it would be responsible of him to continue on as manager of Tottenham Hotspur F.C.

harry%20redknapp2.jpg

Just as we seemed to be shedding our roller coaster image, we are now without a manager with a long tough season ahead of us. We will surely have to add to the squad, to allow for the new Champions League venture and will we really find a better wheeler dealer than Redknapp to do that?

To answer fans concerns, the board had this to say," We understand having lost a legend of English management, that the fans will have concerns but we can assure them everything will have been thoroughly considered before appointing a replacement for Harry".

After switching the channel to sky sports many times during the day, I head off to bed with no more news on the situation at Spurs.

spurs%20badge.png

June 15th arrives and I receive a call from a friend," Turn on Sky Sports News now, you won't believe your eyes!". Sure enough Martin was right. There was a press conference set up at white hart lane. I asked Martin ,"What's going on? Surely they can't have found a manager already?".
"Was just thinking the same thing mate but anything can happen in...". Before Martin can finish his sentence he is immediately silenced by Daniel Levy, Spurs chairman cutting across him.

daniel-levy_1054347c.jpg

" I guess you are all wondering why you have been gathered here today on such short notice? Well, let me explain. The reality of the situation is that Harry gave us a lot of notice before leaving the club. Before the last game of last season he let us know of his decision to retire. So essentially we have had a while to come to a conclusion over the managerial position at Tottenham. Ladies and gentlemen the new Spurs manager is here today!".

"Whoaa I can't believe this Martin!" Levy continues," To take over from Harry, we wanted someone who knows what the club is about, who is determined to drive Tottenham on for the sake of the club and it's fans. We also wanted someone who is young enough to lead a new generation of spurs talent to greater things and who is assured of themselves enough to achieve that aim.
This man has played for the club and won the P.F.A Player of the Year whilst playing for us. He is the only player to ever have done so, while playing for a team finishing outside the top 4. Now he is taking over a group of players who have achieved that 4th place position and hopefully will do that again with them, as well as better things. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Mr. David Ginola!"

SNN14BIZLK_388716a.jpg

This statement creates feelings of shock, joy and fear in me, all in that order. Shock, because his name had not been mentioned in anything related to the job and he had never managed before. Joy, because this man is one of the clubs biggest heroes and was a magnificent technical player. And fear, because as stated already, he has never managed a football team before, never mind one at such a high level, embarking on its first experience of Champions League football.

The Reporters are obviously falling over themselves to ask the man of the hour their questions.

Reporter 1: Mr Ginola, the majority of spurs fans will be absolutely shocked with your appointment for many obvious reasons. What is it that has brought you back to White Hart Lane and made you decide that now is the time to begin your non-playing career in football?

Ginola: Well, let me tell you first of all, the fans of this club are extraordinary and are the main reason why I am back at this amazing club. I have played for them and now I will manage the team to do my best for them. The reason I have decided on now for managing is that the offer of managing this club is too good to turn down. So many great players are here, I believe that as squads go, we have the best in the league. I also have the feeling within me to manage now, and it is something I have been wanting to do for a little while actually.

Reporter 2: Mr Levey has shown great confidence in you, to offer you the job without prior management experience. Are you confident you can reward him and hit the ground running?

Ginola: I am confident yes, because I must be to succeed in this job. I believe that anything I want to do, there is no problem, I can do it. I have many great connections in the football world and I am confident I will have a great backroom team behind me at the start of the season, to support me in bringing the club further on in the football world.

Reporter 3:
You have already said that you believe there is a great squad here already. Does that mean we should not expect much in the transfer market from Spurs this season?

Ginola: Well, I will know more on this for sure once I have had some time with the players. I don't expect there will be too much movement as what is here has already worked well together. However I will make whatever changes I deem necessary to take this club to the next level and beyond, as I believe there is great potential for Tottenham to be a european giant.

Reporter 4: You say you will make whatever changes you think necessary, how much money have you been given to do that by the chairman?

Ginola:
Well I'm not going to go into detail about those finances, other than to say that I am extremely happy with what the chairman has afforded me to improve the team.

Reporter 5: You were renowned around the world as a great flair player, will this characteristic reflect in your team also?

Ginola:
I believe this team has the potential to be a great footballing team, that plays the game the way i believe it should. So yes, you should expect to see the ball being kept on the ground and players being aloud to be creative. I believe this approach will be best for us and will see us rise in stature in the football world.

Press Officer: That will be all now ladies and gentlemen.

27870.gif

Well as they say, things are never dull at Tottenham and that certainly doesn't appear to be changing any time soon. After a discussion with Martin about what had just unfolded, I decided that Ginola may have what it takes to be a brilliant manager. After all he was a rare player, in that he combined his flair with great teamwork.

The only thing is, I can't see him finding his feet for at least a couple of seasons. This is after all what the board had in mind after hiring him, the future. Maybe, just maybe, he might deliver the goods from the off and make sure Harry Redknapps good work does not go to waste.

Over the next few days, Spurs were linked with just about every player within their reach, from Defour of Standard Liege to Vucinic of AS.Roma.

July 1st

Today could go down as the most important moment of Ginolas Spurs career.
Today an amazing signal of intent came from the new spurs coach which I have to say caputured my imagination as well as most spurs fans I imagine.
On the back page of every paper in the country this intent was there for all to see.
David Ginola ladies and gentlemen, has in the past 15 days managed to conclude 3 deals to bring in new players!

Seamus Coleman, a very promising young full back has arrived from Everton for the small fee of 850k.

efc__1260194645_Seamus-Coleman-450x302.jpg

Ginola was quoted as saying of the deal," Coleman is a good dribbler of the ball and very dependable in his defensive duties. I have faith he can become a big player over the next few years.

The other two deals however are sure to have stunned many myself included.

As had been rumored but certainly not expected.................................
Mirko Vucinic from AS.Roma had been signed up for the costly sum of 18.5 million pounds.

3_4348_Mirko_Vucinic.jpg

"Well, what can I say of Mirko, everyone already knows he has fantastic footballing ability. He also works for the team though which I like very much in an attacking player". that was Ginolas opinion on the deal.

AMAZING! and yet the next deal was just as exciting.

Luis Suarez Ajax's exciting young striker has agreed to join after a bid of 21 million was accepted by the club.

luis-suarez-uruguay.jpg

Ginola said of Suarez " Luis is a fantistic signing for us. Many clubs were in for him this summer and I am delighted he chose to come to White Hart Lane instead of the likes of Barcelona, Man United and Chelsea.

Having been plunged into confusion over how we would do this season after Redknapps retirement, I now feel a lot more confident that we can achieve great things again. Today is definitely a great day to be a spurs fan

There was more good news today, although not quite in the same league as what had gone the day before. This news was specifically good for Kyle Naughton.
Spurs had accepted a loan bid for England u-21 international Naughton from Portsmouth, to allow him to develop while obtaining first team experience.

Kyle-Walker.jpg

Ginola : There's no doubt Kyle is a great prospect for the club and I believe that sending him to a club like Portsmouth for a season will help him on his way to fulfilling his potential.

My friends and I met for a few beers down the pub that Saturday and of course it wasn't long before the topic of choice swayed from women's ******* to football and the goings on at White Hart Lane. We were all understandably very excited by Ginolas first moves in the market and yet still unsure of what was to come once the season began.
At least for now Ginola had shown he could rival what Redknapp did in the market. One of the lads also brought it to the groups attention that, although both players can play on the wings they are primarily strikers. With Keane,Crouch, Defoe and Pavlyuchenko already at the club, surely someone would have to move away from White Hart Lane, but who?

---------- Post added at 02:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:37 AM ----------

For the next couple of weeks White Hart Lane was surprisingly quiet, until July 17th.

July 17th

Michael Dawson moved to Galatasaray for 6.25 million today. Not a massive blow in my opinion, as Bassong, King, Kaboul and Gallas remain at the club.

Ginola: Michael has been a great servent to Tottenham during his time here, however i felt that we had too many players in his position and his future would be best served elsewhere. I want all my center backs to be able to play together and know each others game and for me, the best way to do this was to have as few as possible, while keeping enough to cope with fixtures in the Premier League, Champions League, F.A Cup and League Cup. I wish Michael every success for the future and I am sure he will do great things for Galatasaray.

The first pre-season match has arrived and I like many other Spurs fans just couldn't wait to witness the beginning of the Ginola era.

I watched this one with the lads in the pub today and was very impressed.
Although this was just a friendly, it was still good to see the style of play Ginola elected to play with.
Barring there goal through an unfortunate Gareth Bale o.g Jena were allowed only two opportunities for the whole game.
Spurs dominated more than expected and it should have been more than 3-1.
That said, it was nice to see the new players settling in well already with Suarez on the score sheet.
Towards the end of the night we were talking about world domination for Spurs, surely a sign we'd had enough drink and it was time for home!

A closer game for sure here. We didn't enjoy anywhere near as much possession as in the last two games but still never looked like losing, despite the score line. Good to see Vucinic come in off the wing to score a great goal.

Ginola:
So far pre-season is going well for us. The lads look stronger and more focused already and that rather than the results is what pleases me.

A more dominant performance after the last game and comfortably held off the opposition on this trip to the states. The final pre-season game is over with and to be honest it could have been any score for us tonight. Time to start looking forward to our game against bitter rivals Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League season.

David Ginola today summed up his Spurs sides pre-season," I am delighted that our start together has been a success. The players seem to be right up on fitness and that is all I can ask of them at this stage. On the transfer front, we felt it was best to get the deals we really wanted to do out of the way early. This way we have aloud Luis, Mirko and Seamus time to adapt to the squad. I feel the squad is better for the dealings we have done over the summer and I'm very much looking forward to the real competitions now that pre-season has ended for us."

Tottenham accepted a bid of 4.5 million from Weder Bremmen for transfer listed midfielder Jermaine Jenas today. This wasn't exactly surprising for me. as even when Harry Redknapp was in charge there was always doubt over Jenas' future at the club.

101738.jpg

10th August

Another unsurprising move made the headlines today. Allan Hutton moved to Dortmund for a fee of 4 million. After spending last season on loan and having Corluka, Coleman and Kaboul ahead of him in the race for first team action Hutton was always likely to leave the club.

_44399870_hutton.jpg

So far Ginola for me, seems to be making all the right choices on the transfer front at least.

15th august

Ginola is answering questions at a press conference before the big opening day derby with Arsenal.

Reporter 1: How do you feel today on the opening day of the Premier League season?

Ginola: I feel ready, I am extremely happy with how my players have prepared and can't wait for the match to start now.

Reporter 2: Do you place much importance on nationality and club loyalty for this kind of derby game?

Ginola: I think the important thing about these games is your will to do well for the club. This in itself transcends nationality. Having played in this game myself as a foreigner I was always aware of it's importance and always tried to give the fans what they longed for. Today will be no different.

Reporter 3: How do you think your new signings have settled in?

Ginola: I think the Premier League season itself will answer this question but they have settled into the squad very well so far.

Reporter 4: Are you confident that you're players can deliver the goods today?

Ginola: I have 100% faith in my players to give a good performance, whether this will win us the game or not we will have to wait and see.
That's all for now, thank you.

Myself and my mates are going to the Emerates for the game tonight and Ginolas confidence has spilled over into us. We really think we could do well tonight.

Arsenal 1
Rosicky

Tottenham 0

Oh well, could have been much worse. In what was a very even game we gave a good account of ourselves, even enjoying more possession than Arsenal at the Emerates, a rare sight indeed. However the goal Arsenal scored could easily have been avoided if covering centre back Gallas had tracked Rosickys run between himself and king. Diaby found Rosicky with a great ball but with the space Rosicky was afforded, it was never going to be hard to put him through on goal. Gomes was given no chance as he finished into the corner. Still gutted we lost the match but can find positives in it.

RosickyTomas.jpg

Ginola said of the game," In a fair world it would have been a draw today. Both teams played very well and deserved a point each. However this is the big bad world of football and when you make one mistake like we did for the goal you are punished."

Next up for Spurs on the 19th of august is the all important Champions League 3rd round Qualifier 1st leg against Celtic. Despite losing to Arsenal, the way we played in the game makes me believe we will beat Celtic.

Wooohoo! We're in the Champions League proper! and what a way to get there.
For this game Ginola employed sandro as more of an anchor man, to allow the rest of the team go forward, safe in the knowledge that he would sweep up counter attacks. This idea really seemed to work and was no more evident than in the play of Aaron lennon, he destroyed Celtic today with his running both on and off the ball, while Sandro continuously blocked attempted Celtic attacks down his wing . Also Vucinic was moved into the Striker position for the first time in this game in place of crouch, this seemed to give to team a much better dynamic. Delighted with this result and hopefully Ginola will keep with this formation.

On a worrying note however, Luis Suarez Picked up what the clubs physios believe to be a fractured arm and could miss up to 6 weeks of football. Hopefully the team will hold strong without him.

Ginola: I am delighted that the team went out and got the job done as best they could. Now we have the Champions League group stages to look forward to. Everyone is delighted in the dressing room but we must get on top of our for in the Premier League now.

Having played at best a bit part so far this season for Spurs, Roman Pavlyuchenko was today sent out on loan to Stuttgart with an option to buy for 6.5 million.

roman_pavlyuchenko_595509a-jpg.jpeg

Summary of the Month

Feeling better now at the end of the month than, after the disappointment of the first couple of premier league games. Ginola seemed to spot the weakness in our play very quickly after the first couple of disappointments and we have looked very, very good in the two matches we have played with that holding midfielder role. Vucinic of the new signings has been the most impressive so far.

Player of the month

This was a very hard decision, both Corluka and King held things together very well at the back, so as not to let things plummet after the arsenal game. Lennon gave a couple of class performances on the wing, but this months best player was Mirko Vucinic for giving us that better Dynamic whilst attacking. As well as adding to the overall play of the team, he scored 3 from 5 in his first month of play

logo-vucinic.jpg

What Ginola had to say," It is nice to close the month with a victory, I think we have found a way of playing now which we will continue with, and hopefully continue to be successful"

I got 29 million at the start I think. About 5 million in Vucinics deal and 7 million in Suarez' deal was made up of installments. I bought Vucinic and Suarez to interchange as wingers and strikers.

We were all over them in this one, I travelled to blackpool for this game and was not disappointed.
The match was nowhere near as close as the scoreline would suggest. One thing I did notice was that during the second half Ginola pushed Bale up to the left wing spot and we had great success from there for the rest of the game. Another Vucinic goal, if he continues like this, 18 million may even turn out to be a bargain for him.

What can I say, a spectacular occasion for the club I've supported my whole life. It has finally happened, Spurs have contented in the Champions League Group Stage. And what a great way to introduce ourselves on the biggest stage in world football.

Bale started this one on the wing and seemed to confirm my thoughts that he is very much suited to that role.Another goal for bale and first of the season for Dos Santos. With the team playing so well right now the bookies have slashed the odds of them finishing in the top four again this year. They are also favourites to get out of their Champions league group, along with Italian giants A.C Milan. The bookies reasoning being that Standard Liege and Panathinaikos just don't have the strength in depth to cope with the other two as the group unfolds.

Expletives and shouting the score of this match seem to be the only way I have of expressing myself right now. Amazing, just amazing, 7-0!!!! Gareth Bale has just given the greatest display of the season by any player so far this season. Bombing down the left wing at every available opportunity and man has he found himself a pair of finishing boots! But it wasn't just Bale, everyone in the Spurs team went out smelling blood today and they simply devoured Wigan. Vucinic has kept his great scoring run going, Sandro again has been breaking up the oppositions play and amazingly our defence, who no-one is talking about, now has a record of 1 goal conceded in 6. We will party well into the morning after this one.

Ginola: Well actually this is a very hard thing to do, as I did not even see this coming myself. I will say though that it was amazing to see such a hunger that at 4, 5, even 6-0 they did not take their foot off the accelerator. I am very proud of my team today.

This one came out of nowhere, it was a tight game against tough opposition and for a while it looked like we were going to leave Guddison with only a point. However fit again Luis Suarez was to spoil Evertons hopes, as he came of the bench and scored the winner to seal a triumphant return from injury. We had more possession than Everton throughout the match but for the first time in a while struggled to create as many chances as the opposition, as Arteta pulled the strings for them. All in all though Guddison Park is a very hard place to go and get a result, so we can be very pleased with our win.

luis-suarez.jpg

Also today, reports surfaced that Suarez had not been settling in well in the North London area while he was injured. How much you can read into these things though is never certain. If he is unhappy, he certainly hid it well today.

Tonight was one of the great moments we Spurs fans had looked forward to since qualifying for this competition last season. On match day 2 of the Champions League, we found ourselves at the historic San Siro, home to Italian giants Inter Milan and tonights opponents A.C milan.
The players were not overawed by the significance of the game and really dealt Milan a hammer blow. Whilst we did not dominate the game and it was 50/50 for the most part, with both teams creating chances it was the Spurs defence that stood up to the test far better and we ended up with a flattering scoreline because of it. However, it is of course a scoreline we will continue to quote for years to come.
Vucinic found the net twice to make up for his break in goalscoring form against Everton, after Coleman had put us ahead just before the break.

Ginola: I have said right from the start that this is an amazing squad of players and tonight the world will be saying the same. We are capable of anything this season.

And the manager of the month award for September goes to......David Ginola!

Ginola: I am honoured to receive this award and I accept it on behalf of everyone at the club for putting in such hard work over the last few weeks. This is a signal we are doing the right thing but we must now aim even higher and work harder to reach a new level.

Player of the month goes to........Gareth Bale!!

Bale: It's a great honour to be picked for this award as there are so many great players in form right now. My team mates have been amazing all month and there is no doubt that without their efforts I would not have done half as well this month. The manager seems to have lifted the dressing room to another level of confidence and I am looking forward with excitement to each game.

With such a great month behind them, Spurs welcomed West Brom to White Hart Lane today. To be fair to West Brom they retained the ball brilliantly, but when it came to fashioning any worthwhile chances they were utterly useless. West brom played like a Barcelona team would if they had no imagination, holding 59% of possession and doing extremely little with it. Spurs on the other hand were happy to have the visitors do this and when they took the ball from them they punished them time and time again. The scoreline was again totally deserved for us and we don't so any sign of letting up on our form just yet.

Wolves 1
Gomes o.g

Tottenham 0

This was one of the strangest games I have seen in my life. We showed numerous flashes of brilliance today, during a dominant display, yet somehow ended the game with 1 shot out of 14 on target and on the end of a league upset. Our luck was obviously nowhere around during the game today as was evident in Wolves' goal, an o.g by Gomes in the Spurs net. Yet even that had a moment of Spurs brilliance in it. Millijas Cracked a shot towards the top corner, a shot that no keeper should have been able to stop, yet Gomes got a finger to it to send it crashing of the bar. Unfortunately for gomes this moment of genius was about to turn embarrassing, as when the ball thundered back of the bar it hit his back and found its way into the net.

Reporter:
Would you say you are unlucky to be sitting here without a win today let alone a point?

Ginola: On the balance of play I would say yes, extremely unlucky but we only troubled their goal once in the whole game, so also we were bad today in front of goal. As for why I do not know as before this we were scoring freely. I will be looking to address this in training.

Standard Liege 0

Tottenham 1
Vucinic

Vucinic resumed his goalscoring duty today, in an easy match day 3 Champions League away fixture against Standard Liege. At times it was a wonder how such a team had even gotten to this stage of the competition with only keeper, Sinan Bolat and young star player and captain, Steven Defour coming away with some credibility on the night. However I won't worry too much about Standards woes as we resumed winning ways tonight. This is the most consistent Spurs side I have seen in years, after a loss to Spurs there was no slump just regrouping and getting the job done.

Ginola: I was very impressed by Defour for Standard tonight. If you were analysing just his performance tonight, you could not notice he was playing in such a bad side. I look forward to seeing more of him throughout his career.

After Ginola took time to praise young standard midfielder Steven defour in an interview last night, the sports pages are adamant Spurs will make a move for him in January. However with Modric, Van der Vart, Huddlestone, Kranjcar and Palacios already at the club, I'm not sure if we really need a centre mid. But I now have enough confidence in Ginola to trust his judgement on things come January.
