A tactic without strikers?

I've had rather poor results with strikers on most of my saves, Lewandowski on a short-lived Chelsea save was one of the few strikers I've had who has been regularly scoring. On my longer term Schalke save Timo Werner had one stand out season where he scored 30 goals in all competitions, then next season after 15 games he had scored 3 goals...

Anyone tried a tactic without strikers, at all? Something like a 4-3-3, two wide attacking midfielders and one central, sounds like it would work fine, as my Inside-forwards were out-scoring Werner without problem, bar that one season. Draxler averages 15-25 goals a season with 25+ Assists (He's my corner taker aswell) And my other IF, a portugese regen who could easily be the new Ronaldo, is leading the charts in my current season with 18 goals in 14 appearances.

TL;DR - I'm bored of my strikers averaging a 6.4 most games, would it be viable to ignore the striker role completely and rely on your midfielders for goals? Has anyone tried it?

I tried it on last years game for the first time, I went for a 4-2-4, with 2 CAM but struggled to ever really make it work despite having a really solid line up. It might be that I started a new save with it as opposed to trying to teach it to an already cohesive squad. On this years I've been trying a 4-2(CM)-2(CAM)-2 with the adcanced two in the wide positions rather than centrally, that works really well, playing that with the Belgian national team is just my way of saving Lukaku and Benteke's legs though rather than being a 90 minute approach, have scored bag fulls of goals in such situations though.
 
I play a striker-heavy system with two wingers and an advanced playmaker behind an advanced forward who is given instructions to roam and move into channels. My direct, no overlapping style means the balls are always pumped to him or whoever is making runs to goal, and this generally results in a CCC. Defenders are stupid in 14.2, so take advantage of that by playing the aforementioned 3-4-2-1 no striker tactic(which breaks the ME d-lines) or by playing direct/counter attacking football.
