In what seems a surprise appointment, the Feyenoord board have approached and successfully managed to tempt Daryl Panker in becoming their new manager. Fred Rutten was odd’s on favourite to replace Ronald Koeman who has recently joined Southampton.
Panker, who was born and raised in Vienna, Austria is son to Czech parents is 44 years old and has been involved in football for the vast majority of his life. Born in Vienna in 1970, Panker grew up supporting his beloved Austria Wien. At the age of 20, Panker moved across the border to the Czech Republic and lived with his grandparents aiming to look to a professional football contract.
Panker’s dream came true and he earned himself a contract with Sigma Olomouc where he was a player there for 12 years. Retiring at the age of 32, Panker moved into coaching and has slowly earned himself a credible reputation.
Now at 44, and partaking in various coaching courses and shadowing coaches and managers at various clubs around Germany, Austria and Holland, Panker has earned himself a Continental A licence.
The Feyenoord board have asked fans to support Panker and not to question his reputation. Club supporters are apparently outraged that a unknown manager has managed to talk his way into one of the biggest clubs in Dutch Football.
Chairman **** Van Well had this to say, “ from a supporters point of view, it easy to see why the appointment of Panker has sparked outrage. The club is expecting to challenge for the title and also hoping for European cup run this season. However, Panker has undergone a series of management and aptitude tests and has passed with flying colours. We gave him a trial day last week, with the players and the coaching staff alike being very impressed with the way Panker sold himself. We have only offered Panker a 1 year contract so if it doesn’t work out we can look at different options. But please, on last note, can everyone show some patience and offer their upmost support in the new manager.”
