Last nights Hearts vs Motherwell game is under investigation by the ABB (Association of British Bookmakers) due to finding 'irregular betting patterns' regarding the bewildering red-card given to Motherwell's Steve Jennings for 'abusive and foul language', however Sky's cameras saw the back of Jennings, whose only crime seemed to be tapping the referees arm. Jennings had already been booked in the first half but was given a straight red for his 'crime'.

The bet(s) in question originated in Liverpool area, where bets of £200-250 were put on a red card in the game, with the odds of a red at 8/1.

Hearts won the match 2-1, with an own goal from Mark Reynolds opening the scoring for the Jambos. However, less than two minutes later, Keith Lasley latched on to Alan Gow's sublime pass to put the ball under Hearts keeper Marian Kello. However, Hearts were awarded a penalty n the second half, when David Templeton was judged to have been brought down. Kevin Kyle converted the spot kick. Then, minutes later, Motherwell had a penalty claim turned down by Stevie O'Reilly, who made a number of bizzare calls during the evening. That was when the most bizzare one was made, the decision to send off Jennings.

Such a ridiculous decision tbh.

Video of sending off is HERE

I have to say it looks suspicious, he's done nothing more than every player does at some point during a match, have a go at the ref (unjustly) and hasn't (I don't think) already been booked so to send him off is just weird.

STV say:

The SFA have confirmed that they have received information from the Association of British Bookmakers suggesting irregular betting patterns during Tuesday night’s SPL encounter between Motherwell and Hearts.

Motherwell player Steve Jennings' sending off on 82 minutes is believed to be at the centre of the investigation, although the SFA are still awaiting specifics over the nature of the allegation.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening the SFA said:

“Following information received from the Association of British Bookmakers (ABB), we are aware of alleged betting irregularities surrounding a sending-off incident in the Motherwell v Heart of Midlothian match on Tuesday, 14th December, 2010.

“At this stage, we are not in possession of the facts regarding the allegations and are waiting for further information from the Scottish Premier League in due course.

“Once we are in possession of all of the facts we will be in a better position to provide more detailed comment on the matter.

“In the meantime, we will be working with our colleagues at the Scottish Premier League to establish the details surrounding this incident.”

What was that about Scottish refs going on strike?

Scottish football is **** anyway

Yes, and we still support our teams... Doesn't that say a lot about us?

Don't watch much Scottish Football but that isn't how ref's normally behave when they send someone off. They normall just stand there with the card held high and pointing towards the tunnel. This ref in the video seems to be going "**** off".
Does look rather fishy.

Bit dodgy, I wondered why he made such a ridiculous decision. As if Scottish football coudn't turn into more of a laughing stock. And as for the "Scottish football is **** anyway" post, if you think it's that ****, don't comment on this thread or anything in the Scotland section. :)

STV News says that the authorities may check players' phone recoreds in relation to the sending-off.

Very worry news indeed if true. No one should jump to conclusions until it comes out if it's true or not.

Scottish football is **** anyway

Yeah it is but that doesn't stop me or thousands like me standing in the cold every Saturday to cheer on our teams.
