Has anyone used "admire youngster" interaction to any success?

I always scout for young talent and when I find it I try to butter them up and get on their favorites list. However admiring youngster and praising his potential never ever seems to give me anything positive. However admiring his talents always seems to get "Pleased with Manager X's comments".

Any tips or experiences with this?

I find it works best with players at teams with a much lower reputation than yours, or in a lower standard of league. Beware that if the players current manager (regardless of team/league reputation) has a higher reputation than you, your praise is likely to result in a negative outcome.

Admiring Jack Rodwell when you are Arsenal manager is unlikely to work, but admiring the next big thing to emerge from Brazils second division might just see you build a relationship with the player, which could be very helpful when the time comes to sign him.

Works with teams of lower reputation of your own.
If it works the person will add you at his favorite's
The lower the Rep of the other team the more he will like the praise.
Dont even try admiring a player of a big team if your with lets say .. .Leeds ?
They will just take it with a pinch of salt =p

Ok, so lets say you are looking at a 16 year old Argentinian. Is it better to admire his potential, or admire his current ability.

You know how there is an option to say so and so will be a star player, and the other options saying so and so IS a quality player.

What exactly is the difference in regards to youth, or is it the same deal?

If you have scouted some youngster and he is good then probably your back-room adviser will suggest admiring that player. Do it then only.
