Carlos Peel

Carlos Peel. I was born in Sunderland on January 11th 1989. I was born into a working class family living on the outskirts of Sunderland. I moved house several times before I’d even hit my mid-teen years. I had a pretty ordinary childhood; nothing different to the usual teenager up until about the age of 17.

I’d played Football in the local leagues for several years; I didn’t even play in the top league- not because I wasn’t good enough, simply because I didn’t want to. I’d turned down numerous opportunities from clubs in divisions above me; but I wasn’t bothered. I didn’t class it as too serious and I played for the fun with my mates. I also played for my School team, we were pretty successful. In the 5 years I spent there, we won 4 league titles, 3 league cups and two county cups. It was at that last county cup win when I got spotted. We were playing another local school… they only had two players who didn’t feature for a local academy. Whereas us, we had just one player that featured for an academy. I was marking the ‘best striker in the North’ and I had him in my back pocket the whole game. Both teams had known several scouts were watching from numerous academies.

It was only a couple of days later; I received a letter from one Niall Quinn. He’d personally sent out a letter asking me to join Sunderland academy. No trial, no nothing. Just one contract, for a certain Carlos Peel. I only had one answer. I played two seasons in the Sunderland first team until a serious injury ended my career. Niall had always had sympathy for me. Some said it was the only reason he took me under his wing. I said it was a club hero doing it because of his love for the game. I followed him everywhere, and made notes on everything. I’d built up some respect in the game thanks to Niall. I just needed to find the right way in.

Just wanted to introduce this story a bit more. It's my first ever story as I'm new to this, so any constructive criticism or hints/tips would be much appreciated. I'm already a pretty way into the save game, so I'll be playing catch up with the updates. I'll try to keep it looking a little fresh with different reports (i.e media, interview, diary etc...) Hopefully I'll be able to get an update soon/sometime tonight :)

Celtic sack Neil Lennon as manager

View attachment 208852
Lennon's final game in charge was a 3-2 away defeat by Dundee United

Celtic have sacked boss Neil Lennon after several disappointing results.

Surprisingly, Lennon becomes the first SPL boss to lose his job. After picking up just 17 points in 17 games and seeing rivals Rangers run away with the league, Celtic chairman Ian Bankier decided enough was enough.

"Unfortunately for Neil, results haven't gone his way this season. As chairman, I have a responsibility to act in the best interests of the football club and that means bringing Neil's stay with us to an early end. It's not something I've taken lightly, but I thank Neil for his contribution and wish him the best for the future" chairman Ian Bankier said.

"A statement will be made in due course concerning the vacant managerial position."

Martin O'Neil, Henrik Larsson and Mark Hughes have been made the three bookmakers' favourites. After Rangers won the title last year, and up to now seem to be on course for an eighth SPL trophy, Bankier decided results simply weren't good enough and seen fit for change.

Current Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has already backed Henrik Larsson for a return to Celtic Park. Larsson spent seven successful years as a Celtic player and is now seen as a legend.

More to follow.

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough, opening post was the life of 'me' up until this point. Then the Celtic thing was an opportunity for a job. Hopefully it will all come clear after another update or two...

I'm not confused at all, I understood it, Can't really give much feedback as of you but quite a good start keep it up. Good luck.

6th December, 2011

My alarm sounded, and only several minutes later, I heard my girlfriend shout of me. I rolled over and checked the time: 4:37am. I'd received a phone call late last night from Niall telling me too meet him at 95 Kerrydale Street, Glasgow. I didn't know why, I didn't even know where it was. All I knew, was it must have been something important to be in Glasgow. I had to be there by 10am, but I didn't question him as I knew it must be for the good. After getting up, I walked into the kitchen and stuffed a bowl of Cornflakes down my neck, jumped in the shower and put the best suit I had on. The same suit I'd first met Steve Bruce in when I was helping Niall out with the interviews. The same suit I wore for post-match meetings with opposition managers for a couple of drinks. I jumped in the car and checked the time: 5:12am. I quickly entered the postcode into my Sat-Nav and kissed Amelia goodbye. Most people hated travelling, but I enjoyed it. It made me feel good, and gave me a sense of freedom. Something I never felt as though I had in my younger years.

6th December, 2011 -- 09:37am

As I stopped for petrol and a last toilet-break before I met up with Niall, I noticed something on the T.V inside the petrol station. When I went inside to pay, I took a closer look and see the following:
"BREAKING NEWS: Niall Quinn seen entering Celtic Park"
I got an instant weird feeling inside. I checked my phone, no messages from Niall, Amelia or all-importantly Mr. Short. I couldn't really believe what they were saying. According to their sources, he'd been seen entering for contract negotiations. Surely not? Why? After paying, I slumpt back into my car seat and started going through our last few conversations. He hadn't dropped any hints of him leaving, nothing. Surely he wouldn't be leaving! That wasn't Niall what-so-ever. I unlocked my phone and searched "95 Kerrydale Street, Glasgow" into Google and I couldn't believe Celtic Park actually came up. He'd made me drive all the way up here (well, I say all the way, it was only 3-4 hours) just so I could watch him sign a contract and leave me here? I'd be nothing without him. I tried to forget it all and get to Celtic Park as soon as I could...

"What I'm saying, son, is that I want you to be the new manager of Celtic F.C."
"I- I- I really don't know, Sir. I mean, Celtic? Me? I'm not quite 23 yet!" I stuttered out an awful reply. Just as I did, Niall stepped in to save my day- yet again!
"Ian, if you don't mind, I'd like to take a word with Carl outside. C'mon Carl."
As I stepped outside, I knew what he wanted. It was serious. Nobody ever calls me Carl apart from him and the tone of his voice signalled he wanted me to take it.
"C'mon, son. Take it. You want to be in this game, here's your chance. No better way to prove it. If you do, you'll be wanted by many clubs. Not just Celtic. Take your chance son. If it fails, I'll always have a spot for you back with me. Give it a chance, I'm always only a phone call away" said Niall.
"Okay, Niall, I'll try." I made my mind up and stuck with it. I followed him back into the boardroom and informed Mr. Bankier of my decision.

Carlos Peel named Celtic Manager

View attachment 209195
Carlos Peel has been confirmed as Celtic manager.

The 22-year-old is relatively unknown to many supporters, although he has built up some respect from within the game with both players and managers. He joins with a contract until the end of the season.

Peel takes over with the club currently in 9th place after securing only 17 points in as many games. They were many peoples' favourites for the SPL title before the season began.

"Obviously I'm relatively unknown to many, but Niall has obviously seen something in me to put me forward to the Celtic board. They seemed to like what they heard of me and gave me the chance" said Peel

"I'm very grateful to be here, and although Rangers currently seem to be running away with the title, I hope to reel them in and get the best possible finish this club can. I'm not aiming for second place."

Earlier reports claimed that Niall Quinn was the one for the job after he was seen entering Celtic Park, but he now claims he was only there to broker the deal for Peel.

"Carlos is a very good lad. He has a brilliant understanding of the game and I have no doubts he can bring success to Celtic Park. I travelled up earlier this morning to advertise him to Ian, and obviously he liked what I showed. I wish Carlos and Celtic all the best." said Quinn.

Wednesday 7th December 2011

I arrived at the training ground at around 11am. There would only be a light training session today. I just wanted to let the lads know of new tactics and training regimes which would be used. I wouldn't be taking training either. I'd decided to miss Saturday's game to watch from the stands. I wanted to have a proper understanding of the lads, and the best way to do that was whilst analysing them. It would be a pretty big game, as Hearts were doing well but I was confident in the lads.

I knew winning over the changing room would be hard. Neil Lennon was a Celtic Park legend, and suddenly they had to answer to a 'young lad'. I wasn't afraid though, I have belief in myself to do this. I've always been mature and sensible- or at least I hope. Surpringsly, the lads seemed impressed by my talk and new talks, but I knew it wouldn't always be this easy.

As I left Lennoxtown (yes- I know. Weird) I recieved a text from Amelia "Please come back to the hotel, I miss you. Things feel weird ***"

I knew she'd be weird with moving here. It wasn't even permanent either, only a 6 month contract and in all honesty- I wasn't here for the long-term. I don't tend to not go into something not fully-committed... but I felt this was for the best. I may get noticed.

I sent a simple text back. "I love you xxxx"

Just wanted to ask if anybody has any feedback? Any comments will be much appreciated and replied too :)

10th December 2011

Celtic 1-0 Hearts
Bangura (71)

View attachment 209725

Despite watching on from the stands, it was a very dominant performance from the lads. We kept it tight at the back and were good in attack. Only a 1 goal win, but we totally dominated and deserved more.

View attachment 209728

14th December 2011
Steaua 1-2 Celtic
Bourceanu (47), Ledley (49) Stokes (90)

View attachment 209729

My first real game in charge and we were pretty lucky. They dominated us on both possession and attempts on target, but a great goal from Ledley and a late late goal from Stokes won us all three points and guaranteed our place in the next round.

View attachment 209727

18th December 2011
St. Johnstone 0-4 Celtic
McCourt (11, 44) Enckelman (og 29) Hooper (40)

View attachment 209733

We totally dominated and we deserved more than four goals. St. Johnstone simply didn't turn up and we had a field day. Although we deserved more, positive vibes were coming from the lads and I looked forward to the meeting with Rangers in ten days.

View attachment 209727

21st December 2011
Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnock
Rogne (13) Hooper (35) Commons (44) Forrest (57)

View attachment 209739

A great goal-scoring performance. Kilmarnock didn't really play too bad, but we took our chances and I was delighted with Gary Hooper. Although he only scored once, he put a great effort in towards the team performance. Only a week left 'till Rangers!

Cheers mate. Any advice on layout etc? Another update should be on soon!

View attachment 209758

28th December 2011
Celtic 3-1 Rangers
Malbranque (12) Brown (78) Rogne (87), Izaguirre (og 85)

View attachment 209759

A very good performance. Dominated our rivals and got another three points on the board. Probably should have scored more after having 23 shots compared to their 4 but we got all three points. A nice later Christmas present!

View attachment 209758

2nd January 2012
Dunfermline 2-3 Celtic
McDougall (61) Graham (72), Commons (37) Mulgrew (40) Kayal (62)

View attachment 209766

Not the best of performances. Although we left with all three points once again, I was very disappointed about our performance and I'd sure be stepping up our shooting practise in training. Note to self: strikers = off form.

View attachment 209767

8th January 2012
Celtic 2-0 Patrick Thistle
McCourt (13) Bangura (29)

View attachment 209768

As I changed the team around a lot, I expected a low scoring game. A very comfortable performance and Patrick Thistle didn't manager one attempt on goal. A good passing exercise for the lads, although I appreciate Patrick Thistle turning up.

View attachment 209758

14th January 2012
Celtic 3-0 Dundee United
Rogne (45, 78) Forrest (65)

View attachment 209774

An easy game for the lads. Dundee didn't come at us too much, but when they did Rogne was the rock they couldn't break down. He's suddenly becoming irreplaceable to me.

View attachment 209785

22nd January 2012
St. Mirren 0-1 Celtic
Commons (28)

View attachment 209786

A commanding display. Very proud of the performance but our attacking options need to find form soon. Commons had a brilliant strike from 25 yards out to win us all three points. Final ball and finishing needs work.

View attachment 209785

29th January 2012
Hearts 2-2 Celtic
Driver (52) Bruins (Pen 92), Wilson (Pen 2) Mulgrew (39)

View attachment 209787

A very lucky point for us. My first points dropped as Celtic manager after 10 games and we could so easily have lost. We got a lucky penalty early on and we conceded a stupid penalty in added time. Silly handball by Wilson although no card was shown. In all honesty, he should have went.

View attachment 209788
5th February 2012
Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock
Majstorovic (Pen 5) Baba (45+1)

View attachment 209789

A good performance from our second team. Baba particularly impressed and he's now pushing to get in the first-team. He may get his chance very soon.

View attachment 209785

11th February 2012
Celtic 3-0 Inverness CT
Hooper (22) McCourt (47, 79)

View attachment 209790

An average performance yet we seemed to score more than as of late. In seems when we play very well, we can't score yet when we play average we can. Attention now changes to Udinese away on Thursday. The media have already written us off but I'm hoping for the best.

View attachment 209951

16th February 2012
Udinese 1-3 Celtic
Di Natale (19), Hooper (23) Commons (30) Wilson (pen 58)

View attachment 209952

Very proud of the lads. We were expected to be hammered today but it didn't happen. Although they scored first, we got a great reply and dominated for the rest of the match. Confidence is sky high.

View attachment 209953

19th February 2012
Hibernian 2-0 Celtic
O'Connor (24, 90+1)

View attachment 209954

Not the greatest of performances but it may have been sacrificed for the Europa League. Nevertheless, I still expected at least a point but it didn't happen. In all honesty, they dominated us and deserved it. Well done to Hibernian but I'm hoping for better on Thursday night against Udinese.

View attachment 209951

23rd February 2012
Celtic 1-0 Udinese
Hooper (69)

View attachment 209965

We did just about enough for the win. A pretty even match settled by a good finish. Through to the Europa League 2nd Round Knockout- been drawn with Lyon... first match is away (again) on the 8th of March.

View attachment 209953

26th February 2012
Celtic 0-0 Motherwell

View attachment 209966

Not the best performance but it's another point on the board towards catching Rangers. Just nine points behind now.

View attachment 209967

4th March 2012
Hearts 0-3 Celtic
Forrest (9) Wilson (33) Bangura (72)

View attachment 209980

A very commanding performance. Played them off the park and they didn't really have a chance. We've drawn Hibernian in the Semi Finals now. Two matches in a row against Lyon next. I'm quietly confident.

View attachment 210049

8th March 2012
Lyon 0-1 Celtic
Ledley (8)

View attachment 210050

Solid Performance. I expected the lads to attack from the off and that's exactly what they did. We piled pressure onto Lyon for the whole 90 minutes and towards the end they put 10 men behind the ball. Exactly what I wanted, and now Lyon are under pressure to get a result at Parkhead.

View attachment 210049

15th March 2012
Celtic 1-0 Lyon
Hooper (25)

View attachment 210051

I expected Lyon to come out and attack us and they never got started. Again, we piled pressure on them for the whole 90 minutes and again, unexpectedly got the result. A great strike from Gary separated the sides on the night and it was a great way to go through. We've been given Lazio in the Quarter Finals... first leg at home on the 29th.

View attachment 210052

18th March 2012
Celtic 4-0 Dunfermline
Baba (7) Lumb (23) Gomez (44) Forrest (53)

View attachment 210053

An excellent performance from us. Nothing less than I expected though and we should have won by 6 or 7. Wilson missed a penalty for us but it didn't really matter. We're really starting to click in front of goal at the minute. Very proud of the lads.

View attachment 210052
21st March 2012
Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic
Paton (90), Commons (19, 39) Majstorovic (59)

View attachment 210060

A good performance from the boys. Again, nothing less than I expected to a side surprisingly struggling. An excellent show from Commons in midfield and he won MOM. Fully deserved it. Two important matches up next, first Rangers at Ibrox followed by Lazio.

View attachment 210052

25th March 2012
Rangers 0-4 Celtic
Hooper (17, 45, 64) Commons (45+3)

View attachment 210065

Absolutely brilliant! I told the lads to go and dominated possession and touches of the ball but I didn't expect that! Commons once again played superbly in midfield, pulling the strings whilst helping out at the back. Would of won MOM for the second successive time but for a Hooper hat-trick. Lazio up next!

View attachment 210049

29th March 2012
Celtic 4-0 Lazio
Hooper (27, 42, pen 74) Kayal (65)

View attachment 210066

Could of probably won this with our second team. Only let the have one attempt on goal whilst we had 23. Didn't really pose much competition and I must admit, even I'm surprised at our run in this competition. It's only going to get harder so we need more performance's like this. 2nd leg is this time next week in Italy. Expecting a tense atmosphere.
