I don't know how can you stay interested in this save ;)

I am not bored of it yet and i am still to find my next Aitor. In all honesty despite the excellence of Guillermo, Iker, Urdaniz etc they are not as good as Izurza and Cidoncha and definately nowhere near the god that is Aitor so the search continues.......

Off the top of my head my regen XI for Bilbao would be

GK - David
DR - cant remember
DL - cant remember
DC - Alastuey
DC - cant remember but Hondo N'Dongo just for his name!!!!
MC - Cidoncha
MC - Urdaniz
AML - Perez Villarroya
AMR - Izurza
AMC - GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ST - Iker

PRE-SEASON

Season number 12 is on the horizon and I am taking a slightly different tact in regards to my squad as I have promoted a few youngsters to have a squad size of 25 plus 1 youngster that doesnt need to be registered!!!!

There were a few changes in the squad so I better just get down to it.

--

PLAYERS IN

Nobody for the first team. Just these youngsters for a total of 2.45m
View attachment 367837View attachment 367836View attachment 367835View attachment 367834

--

PLAYERS OUT

The main one was Alvaro Bragana who joined Villarreal for 10m. The giant defender made 145 appearances for us and scored 21 goals for us but his attributes took a knock after his bad injury 2 seasons ago.

A sad day at the club was had when Ander Herrera left to join Fulham on a free transfer. He was on big wages and wanted a new challenge and with so many talented young CMs coming through I was happy to give him a new experience. The club legend made 380 appearances and scored 95 goals under my management.

Alex is also on his way. I have no doubt that he will turn into a good player and like Rivero I am not ruling out a return to the club but with the emergence of a few youngsters I thought it was the right time to cash in. He ended up going to CSKA Moscow for a cheap 3.4m and he made 67 apps and scored 3 goals.

From the B team Angel Diaz left for 2m as did Roberto Jimenez who joined Gimnastic as did Martin Angulo who left for 1.2m.

Regarding the B team, Diego Lasa joined Malaga on a free and once again like Rivero I made a mistake and forgot to offer a decent prospect a contract as Jose Antonio Martin joined PAOK on a free. Angel Diaz left for 2m while Jimenez and Angulo joined Gimnastic for a total of 3.3m

SUMMARY

With no signings for the first team I have promoted these guys and big things are expected from all of them!!!!!!!!
View attachment 367833View attachment 367832View attachment 367831View attachment 367830View attachment 367828

I am extremely excited about the introduction of these guys. Ramos was always going to go into the 1st team, Patxi Olaizola'z promotion means all 3 of the "brothers" are in the first team and somehow despite not having played 10 games for the first team is regarded as favoured personnel by the club. Ruben has been knocking on the door for a while Ugarte is going to be a star providing I can give him enough game time. Finally Lafuente who was never going to get a game at full back has been trained to be a CB, despite his height, and I hope he will progress to be a super player.

Also I am contemplating dropping Griezmann to let Alfonso come into the side as Alfonso has been so patient but Griezmann still performs well.

My first XI

Arroyo

Rubio - Laporte - Alastuey - M.Olaizola

Urdaniz - Rivero

Muniain (LW) - Guillermo - Alfonso/Griezmann

Iker

--

SECOND XI

Beorlegui

Gonzalez - Alejandro - Lafuente - Zaldivar

Lucas - Ramos

Garrido (LW) - Martin - J.Olaizola (RW)

Ugarte

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY NEW FIRST SQUAD MEMBERS??????

AUGUST

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Alfonso 11, 42, Iker 28, Laporte 52, Guillermo 79)
Levante 0

I decided to start Alfonso ahead of Griezmann and it paid off. Now to decide whether to play him and Guillermo in their natural positions. Guillermo is a RW but has always played AMC while Alfonso is the opposite.

--

Spanish Super Cup Final 1st Leg
Real Madrid 0
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Guillermo 3)

We got battered here but scored with our only shot on target to get the first leg advantage.

--

UEFA European Super Cup

Roma 2 (Baudissard 87, 90pen)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 16, Laporte 47, Martin 99)
AET

We had this game won and then we threw it away before winning it again!!!

SUMMARY

A decent first month of the new campaign. We won the European Super Cup and hold a slight advantage over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. We also got off to a good start in the league with a hammering of Levante.

I have decided to play Guillermo on the RW and Alfonso at AMC as according to my assistant manager they are far better than the other when they are in their natural position (over a star of a difference between Guillermo at RW and Alfonso at RW).

In the Champions League we have been put in a group with Schalke, Ajax and Rosenborg.

Hey Klippybo.

i've kept an eye on your Bilbao threads for a couple of FM's now as I always play Bilbao myself, usually going about 15 seasons or so per FM...currently on my 10th season. You get some great players and it's always cool to see others playing with Athletic!

Just interested to know your thoughts on being able to sign 16 year old Spaniards with no basque nationality? Personally I never do it as Athletic wouldn't do it in real life so it feels like a bit of a loophole on the game.

SEPTEMBER

Getafe 0
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 35, Garrido 90)

Not one of our better performances but we were missing several players which probably paid a part in that. They had an equaliser disallowed.

--

Spanish Super Cup 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Muniain 79, 86)
Real Madrid 1 (Mlinaric 62)
(Athletic Bilbao win 3-1 on aggregate)

Both sides had a man sent-off in the 1st half in a fiery encounter. They had a goal disallowed moments before we got the winner.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Rubio 17, Guillermo 37)
Real Valladolid 1 (Seferovic 6)

Maybe my players are tired after their efforts at the Euros but we are not playing well and just sneaking through games at the moment.

--

UEFA Champions League Group B

Ajax 0
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Ruben 72)

My backups did the job here. Ugarte had a goal disallowed early on.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Alfonso 25, Iker 63)
Atletico Madrid 0

Once again the result was decent enough but the performance was lacking.

--

Real Madrid 1 (Icardi 86)

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Muniain 23, Guillermo 38, Iker 67pen)

A fantastic result. Lets hope we are back on track now!!

--

Granada 0
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Guillermo 37, 66, Enric og50)

Alfonso had a goal disallowed here.

SUMMARY

Results wise this month was good as we won all our games and collected the Spanish Super Cup but I expect more than good results - I EXPECT PERFORMANCES!!!!!!!

Whether its because Griezmann is no longer first pick or the fact that Guillermo is the new RW or whether its because my players are shattered after the Euros or all of the above I dont know but we need to improve!!!!

I dont mind because I am sure that in real life that Bilbao can sign non Basque players if they have their football education in the region so whether that football education period ends at 17 I dont know!

OCTOBER

UEFA Champions League Group B
Athletic Bilbao 7 (J.Olaizola 27, Griezmann 29, 34, 54, Alejandro 32, Garrido 65, Ruben 82)
Rosenborg 1 (Myhre 39)

THATS BETTER!!!!! Jon Ander Olaizola also had a goal disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 10, Alfonso 38, Griezmann 76)
Sevilla 0

Griezmann isnt taking being dropped lightly as he did well coming off the bench here after his hat-trick performance in the previous game
.

--

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Rivero 10, Iker 21pen, 51, Guillermo 35, 42, 83)
Real Betis 2 (Dongou 66, 90)

Guillermo was excellent here as was Alfonso who got 3 assists.

--

UEFA Champions League Group B

Schalke 04 3 (Sanz 7, 16, Schroder 89)
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Ugarte 3, 68, J.Olaizola 39, Garrido 54, Alejandro 63, 73)

A fine win. My old player Ruben Sanz caused us a few problems here but my youngsters had too much quality for Schalke in the end.

--

Mallorca 1 (Solhi 81)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Alfonso 15, 46, Iker 21, M.Olaizola 57)

Special mention goes out to Alejandro Rivero here as he setup 3 goals in a fine central midfield performance from him.

--

Valencia 2 (Dovbnya 17, Samsonov 45)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Iker 12)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

After 87 games unbeaten Valencia finally make us suffer a defeat.

Quite ironic really. After complaining about our performances we finally get things going again and all is right with the world when BANG we lose for the first time in ages!!! Never mind, what we have to do now is bounce back and get back to blowing teams away again.

For the first time I am considering another challenge but havent decided anything yet.

Thinking of a team in a tiny country to dominate Europe just now. Let me know your thoughts on staying or starting up or any suggestions etc

Hi Klippy. It's my first time posting as I thnk this save is one of the best on the site. I was just wondering how you managed to find so many unbelievable regens. If you're gonna start a new challenge go for portsmouth as they've fallen from grace in recent years and you could restore them to their former glory. :D

Hey man, what's the best player out there? besides iker and your vasque players..
Would be nice to see some screens of the best ones out there.

I think Slovenia would be good to see, very few people have done an eastern European story before

Ukraine and Russia too big to be a challenge IMO. Unless you were going to start in a lower division of course.
