Aitor Herrera - On The Hunt For The New Regen King!!!! (A Bilbao Story)

Hello - I thought I would do the introduction to this story about the God himself Aitor Herrera who will be the manager of Bilbao. I would link it in to the story of his achievements but it wouldnt work as I played my Bilbao save in FM12 to the year 2034!!!!

Now if you are new to this site or just don't know who Aitor Herrera is then shame on you! lol. Basically I got this regen in the first season at the age of 15 and he was still with me at the age of 38 when I accidentally lost the save. He was the greatest regen I have ever had and ever will have so there!

Arguably his greatest achievement was somehow being named in the Sky Sports News website as a real life player for Athletic Bilbao (they have sorted it now)

For Spain he won 256 caps and scored 71 goals also.

As you can see he did quite well! Quite disappointed he didnt get 1,000 games but he was rested or injured and missed about 15-20 games per season. I would list the trophies he won but it would take forever but here is the story link - if you have a spare week or so give it a read lol -

I will write this story with any reference to Aitor referring to Aitor in FM12 so to speak however he won about 100 trophies with Bilbao while in this story I will want to match that at least and obviously Bilbao havent won nearly that amount. It sounds wierd and complicated I know but bear with me! lol

My dream of this story is this - I want a regen to come through the youth intake with Herrera as a surname and him being good enough for the first team (so I could pretend he is his son lol) - that would be the ultimate and would give the story an extra twist! But if that is not possible I am aiming to get a regen as good as Aitor if that is possible!

Obviously the main aim is to topple the top two in Spain blah, blah, blah but I did that in FM12/13 eventually but the one thing I didnt do in my FM12/13 save was have a season with a 100% record in every competition. I was unbeaten at home for something like 8 years and was unbeaten in the league for umpteen years but never had the perfect season.

Finally I am aware that I have an unhealthy addiction to a regen player and I make no apologies for that! lol

PRE-SEASON/AUGUST

As ever any first pre-season with Bilbao is a quiet one. Due to the unique transfer restrictions (we can only sign players who are Basque or 16y/o Spaniards) and our low transfer budget of ?5m incoming transfers were almost non-existant.

Off the field it was all happening as I made several changes to my backroom team. Antonio Fernandez (Director of Football), Rodolfo Borrell (Head of Youth), Ismael Urzaiz (coach), Angel Vales (coach), club legend Julen Guerrero (assistant manager), Rene Meulensteen (coach) all came in amongst others.

My clubs youth coaching is being invested in while both youth and senior training facilities are getting improved. Of course early on in the season we will be moving into the new San Mames Stadium.

Just the three! Sebas and Jorge Mere came in for 750k each. Hopefully they will develop well and possibly make it into the first team. Eneko Satrustegui came in from Osasuna for 700k and will go into the B team who play in the 3rd tier of Spanish football.

SUMMARY

A steady start I suppose. We picked up 2 wins, including a derby win over Osasuna, and I feel that our thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid shouldnt be too costly at the end of the season.

So we are off and running - lets see what we can do. (I must admit the lack of European football is annoying but it looks as though Bilbao will be in the Champions League next season in real life!!!)

Haha! I'm he same as you, love the Regens!!

ill try get a screen shot of his stats so far, only had him for 3 seasons, signed from Boca or River, can't remember, for 3m he's now worth 62m and came 3rd in Ballon D'Or. Not many goals in first 2 seasons but just banged in 40 odd in all competitions from the wing, he'd play upfront but Mitrovic just scored 78 goals this season for me so can't really move him, haha

SUMMARY

Any unbeaten month is a good month so I am happy at the moment, lying 3rd place in the league. By the way Barca and Real have started it looks as though no miracles will be happening and 3rd place will be our best placing.

Aduriz is really struggling up front just now - he is yet to get on the scoresheet so I may have to give Kike Sola a try up front.

SUMMARY

Not the greatest of months. We opened our new stadium with a thumping of Valencia but we failed to carry that momentum on to our next 2 games and we slipped up. However we did manage to beat Elche at the end of the month.

In the Copa del Rey we have been given a tricky tie against Espanyol. Also we have got ES Tunis (from Tunisia) as an affiliated club where we can send players out on loan strangely.

SUMMARY

Lots of goals this month as we netted 13 times in only 4 games although we did manage to concede 8 times too!! Once again my strikers arent really scoring but my AMs are while my defenders obviously cant be arsed to defend!!!

The win over Atletico Madrid was crazy and the highlight of the month but it ended on a sour note at the hands of Barcelona.

Hopefully you dont get board this time round, the big 2 look alot better that they were in the other fm14 save so should be more of a challange. SUMMARY

So this month ends the calendar year and we are doing pretty well at the halfway stage. We are sitting 3rd in the league albeit with no chance of breaking up the top two and we are through to the Copa del Rey 5th round where we will face Real Betis.

Although I am constantly bemoaning the fact that I am conceding too many goals I will still keep the same tactic. The reason being is I do not have any top notch defenders or keeper (although Laporte should develop into one) and once I do things should improve remarkably.

Just a few years to wait then!!!!
