Chairman's Response

An open letter from the Chairman, in response to media reports in Saturday’s newspapers incorporating comments from former Manager Mark Hughes:

What a strange man Mark Hughes is. Sacked by Manchester City, he was becoming a forgotten man when I rescued him to become manager of Fulham Football Club.

Even when results were bad, I did not put pressure on him. I gave him every support -- financial, moral and personal.

He fully negotiated a two-year extension to his contract. On the day he was due to sign, he walked out without the courtesy of a proper explanation.

And now he insults the club, saying it lacks ambition, and the players who delivered an 8th. position finish last season and a place in the Europa League.

He is not just disrespectful but entirely wrong. Fulham has just announced plans for a splendid new riverside stand that will substantially increase the capacity of Craven Cottage.

In every aspect of its work, Fulham is a progressive club with a top manager in Martin Jol, the man we had really wanted when Hughes was appointed.

We shall endeavour to prosper without him simply because, when the challenge came, it was not the Club but Mark Hughes who lacked the courage and ambition to take on the task of leadership. If people are looking for a flop, they only have to look no further than the man who has lost his spark.

Yours faithfully,

Mohamed Al Fayed,
Chairman,
FFC

Chairman's Response

Well. That's brilliant, the last line is a great one.

It's pretty easy to churn out a letter basically trying to **** all over Sparky Hughes when the poor man hasn't even got the chance to defend himself. All he said was he left Fulham because he felt the club lacked ambition. Their response is to hit out with an almost school-yard like spectacle to try and make things personal.
True, Mr Hughes is not the greatest manager in the history of the game, but there is no need to react like this. Then again however, what more can you expect from the lecherous old crow that is Al Fayed, too busy sitting in the corner of his office in his tin-foil hat and vomiting out accusation to the Royle family to give a **** about the beautiful game.

Ouch.

Take that Mark!

Not sure how you're calling Hughes 'the poor man'. He's hardly a victim in all this, he criticised our club so I believe we have a right to defend ourselves. He was set to sign a 2 year contract and pulled out at the last minute due that the slimey rat that is Kia Joorabchian. He was clearly trying to get the Villa or Chelsea job and it backfired massively.

As for your Royal family reference, that has nothing to do with this.

Its actually the second time he's had a pop at Fulham. Deserved

Deja vu?

It's all just handbag's really. Using a medium to have a go at someone is pathetic, no matter who you are. Al-Fayed could have been the bigger man and ignored the comments but he had to get his own dig in.

Wont say a bad word against Sparky, he obviously thought he was better than Fulham so fair play to him for sticking to his guns.

Good job. Hughes is Kia's muppet.

He criticized Mancini's man-managment skills and questioned his methods in this interview aswell. All this before the manchester derby. He probably was hoping so much that United would trash City and it backfired.

Maybe he now understands that Mancini is doing a much better job than he ever could have done. The **** doesn't seem to realize that he brought alot of **** players and Mancini has had a hard time in cleaning his mess.

And very disrespectful comments against Fulham aswell.

Yet no 'ambitious club' has come in for him. An ambitious manager would stay at the club and try and make something of it. He took the easy way out and now he's been reduced to punditry.

Very much THIS. As much as I like Sparky, he was just a **** by walking away from Fulham with lame reasons. Anyways Fulham got better manager than Sparky and the one who can take the club forward.

Hughes is a fool. He had a chance to build something at Fulham, but walked away from a place with a good set-up, a rich chairman, excellent fans and an historic stadium. Why? All because his ego demanded that he go to a club that could reasonably spend even more money.

Sparky's lost his spark, love it! ;)

But the thing is, it's not like Fulham have terrible players, poor finances and a bleak future. Bryan Ruiz was signed as a marquee signing for £10m+ so I don't see what other clubs would hire Hughes and give him that money - hoping that Aston Villa or Chelsea would hire him was overly-ambitious.

He used to be great at Blackburn, when he didn't have any money - wonder why he didn't complain about lack of ambition/funds there? Pretty stupid, though, this letter although it is fairly funny.
