I know there is an England story that is miles better than this will probably be but hopefully I can try and interest you. I am using DMF's 10-11 season and the game starts on 1st June 2010. I have played up until the end of the World Cup Group Stage and will update in every post until then :)

Shear-we-go : Shearer at the Press Conference.

Inside FA Headquarters this morning, a press conference was held to announce the new England manager. Alan Shearer was the man of the moment as he strolled in to the press conference to answer questions about his new job.

Q. Alan, you sit here as the new England manager, how do you feel at this moment in time?

A. I cannot explain how I feel at this current moment in time, I had a bad time managing Newcastle but now hopefully I can put that behind me now and concentrate on winning the World Cup.

Q. What do you think about the circumstances in how you got the job?

A. I am not commenting on the allegations about Fabio as that is his own business, but I am glad I have got the England job ahead of some of the world’s best managers.

Q. Do you reckon there will be a few surprises in your World Cup squad?

A. Yes I do, I have been watching a few players in the season and some less heard of players have been performing well so there may be a few shocks.

Q. Do you reckon there will any major changes in the squad depending on the performance against Belgium in the upcoming friendly?

A. It all depends on how the players play, but I think I will definitely be dropping some of the fringe players from the squad. Thank you for your time but I will be leaving now.

Superb : John Terry runs away to celebrate his magnificent goal.

Fans were heaping praise on Alan Shearer as they left Wembley after his England side showed their class in their 3-0 victory over Belgium today. Michael Owen opened the scoring on 10 minutes after Gabby Agbonlahor’s through ball gave him a one-on-one with the Belgium keeper. With England piling on the pressure, the Belgium defence cracked again after another through ball by Ashley Young was blasted past the helpless Jean-Francois Gillet. The goal of the game however came on 73 minutes after a curling Ashley Young corner was superbly chested down by John Terry and on the turn volleyed in into the top corner of the Belgium net.

Latest Odds For The World Cup

View attachment 83414

Brazil and Italy have been made join favourites for the 2010 World Cup with Argentina and France being placed at odds of 2-1. Joachim Low's Germany and Holland have got odds of 5-2 for winning the World Cup. With odds of 6-1 for Alan Shearer's England, it shows that the bookmakers think he has an outside chance of guiding them to glory.

England outclass North Korea

Roo Beauty : Wayne Rooney after securing the three points.

On a hot sunny day in Durban, England came out on top against lowly North Korea. In a match they easily dominated with a total of 67% possession and a total of 30 shots to North Korea’s 2, England opened the scoring on 22 minutes when Theo Walcott took a pass from Wayne Rooney to round one defender and then round the goalkeeper to tap into an empty goal. An injury to Glen Johnson could have put a negative effect on the result until Frank Lampard thundered home a Carlton Cole cross from the penalty spot. A second goal in four minutes for England came after Theo Walcott’s dazzling run from his own half set up Wayne Rooney to thunder home from eight yards to secure three points for England.

Bystrov Breaks English Hearts

Hudyanikapointov? : Russian players celebrate their late equaliser.

In an even match at a cold and windy Soccer City, Vladimir Bystrov broke English hearts after his injury time equaliser. The game kicked into life in the twenty-first minute as Russia opened the scoring. With Wes Brown off the field for treatment, Andrei Arshavin was allowed time and space to put a low cross across the box for Alexandr Kerzhakov to score pass the floundering Ben Foster. England equalised in the forty-first minute after Tom Huddlestone’s rocket from thirty yards was spilled by Igor Akinfeev allowing Gabby Agbonlahor to tap into the net, and putting further claims that the Jabulani ball was not the best choice for such an important tournament. England took the lead on fifty-one minutes after Wayne Rooney’s ball through the Russia defence was slotted home by James Milner. However, the celebrations were killed in injury time as Andrei Arshavin’s corner was missed by Joleon Lescott which allowed Vladimir Bystrov to bundle in the equaliser and break English fans hearts across the country.

England Qualify From Group C!

Footballs Coming Home : England players celebrate their victory over Ecuador

England have today qualified from Group C but finished second due to Russia’s 6-0 demolition of North Korea. England opened the scoring on twenty-seven minutes when Rio Ferdinand smashed home from six yards out after a neat one-two with Peter Crouch. They then doubled the lead after an Ashley Young free kick was headed in off the post by John ‘Superman’ Terry in the sixty-first minute. England completed their rout over Ecuador in the seventy-fifth minute after the returning Steven Gerrard knocked down a cross field ball by Ashley Cole for Theo Walcott to loop a header over the oncoming Ecuador goalkeeper. This result means England finish second in Group C and will most likely play Portugal who had already qualified from Group D with one game spare.

Group Stage Review!

With the Second Round about to commence in South Africa, we will take a look back at the group stages and the shock results and some of the better nations crashing out early on.

Group A

View attachment 83803

A shock result in the first game of this group, where Italy drew 0-0 with Gabon had pundits thinking Italy had gone off the boil but they recovered in time and finished the group top with seven points. Ukraine went through in second just ahead of Paraguay, who finished on exactly the same stats as Ukraine. Gabon propped up the group at the bottom finishing with one point from the draw with Italy.

Group B

View attachment 83804

This is one of the groups that produced some major shocks with Chile defeating all three of their opponents in Group B and finishing on nine points, the 2-1 victory over France was secured with a 90+6 minute penalty – a result which the South American country will remember for a long time. France secured their qualification to the Second Round with victories over South Africa and USA but their group stage was not to be remembered as they were expected to go through with ease. The host nation, South Africa, and USA didn’t contribute much to the footballing expertise as they crashed out with one point.

Group C

View attachment 83805

The group in which there was only one shock result, North Korea beating Ecuador. Russia won the group on goal difference after they dominated North Korea in their final group game 6-0, leaving England qualifying in second. England could of finished first if it wasn’t for their defensive mix up in injury time against the Russians. North Korea, making their first appearance outside Asia, picked up their only win against Ecuador, whilst the Ecuadorians left South Africa with no points after losing all their games.

Group D

View attachment 83806

Pundits labelled this ‘The Group of Death’ with three great footballing nations competing for two qualification spots with minnows Bahrain. With Portugal already qualified with one game spare, they fielded a weakened team against the Mexicans, the Mexicans took full advantage of this and secured qualification with a classy 1-0 victory leaving Argentina to return to South America early. As expected Bahrain gained no points but they learned from their experience and hopefully can return better in 2014.

Group E

View attachment 83807

Germany qualified with ease from this group defeating Ghana, Poland and Costa Rica on their way to picking up nine points. The second qualification place was left for Ghana and Poland to fight it out for, but having lost 3-0 to Germany, the Poles had too much to do and departed South Africa on goal difference.

Group F

View attachment 83808

With Spain including many international superstars in their squad for the World Cup, they were expected to walk the group with ease. However, Torres and Co. failed to beat Serbia in their second group game and eventually finished second in the group. Serbia finished top with seven points from their three games after two victories and one draw. Japan and Ivory Coast left the World Cup early, and as Ivory Coast were the favourite African side going into the tournament, the continents hopes were left in tatters as they were eliminated.

Group G

View attachment 83809

Brazil headed into the tournament as joint favourites and again showed why they are the best footballing country in the world. They finished top of their group with seven points, dropping points in the 0-0 draw against Nigeria. Many pundits thought that Australia would qualify along with Brazil, but they were proved wrong as Euro 2004 winners Greece produced the goods to finish second in the group. Nigeria gained their only point in their draw with Brazil whilst Australia picked up their only win against Nigeria.

Group H

View attachment 83810

Holland again proved they have some of the best footballers in the world as they eased through the group with three wins. Algeria provided no resistance in their three fixtures and the African minnows conceded a mammoth eight goals, sending them home early. Denmark, with Arsenal striker Nicolas Bendtner leading the line, finished second in the group with the 4-0 victory over South Korea making sure that they qualified.

Rooooney : National Hero Wayne celebrates with David Beckham

This game will be remembered by many England fans as the game Wayne Rooney sprung to life with a magnificent hat-trick. The game kicked into life in the 18th minute as Ashley Cole’s inswinging cross was handled by Rafael Marquez in the box, giving England a penalty. Ashley Cole stepped up himself but his effort was saved down low to his left by Guillermo Ochoa, however Wayne Rooney was the fastest to react and calmly slotted into the empty net. The next goal by Rooney came after a clever one-two down the right hand side with James Milner allowed Rooney to smash home into the top corner from eight yards. With England dominating the game, Mexico gave a free kick away early in the second half. Joe Cole, making his 60th appearance in an England shirt, stepped up and curled the ball into the net from thirty yards sparking huge celebrations in the stands by England fans. On seventy-eight minutes, that man Rooney popped up again after a good through ball by Steven Gerrard and placed the ball in the back of the net securing England’s place in the next round.
