Hi,

Basically I'm looking to start a new system of competition in Ireland based around the system that we use for All-Ireland Gaelic and Hurling Championships. The Rules would be something like this:

32 Teams competing in 3 Different Competitions. Each team representing each county of Ireland and players are only allowed to play for the county they are from. So for instance Kevin Doyle would play for Wexford, Robbie Keane for Dublin and Shane long for Tipperary etc.

The format would of competition would go as follows:

The National League:

Played from February to April, divided into divisions 1A, 1B, 2 and 3, each division consisting of 8 teams who play each other once. The top two in 1A and 1B go into the semi-final against each other while the bottom two in 1A and 1B is replaced by the top 2 in Div. 2 and a 2 way promotion/relegation for Div.2/Div.3

After this the Provincial Championship takes place. This consists of four championships running simultaneously from May-July. The Provincial Championships are Knockout cup format. They are divided as follows:

Connacht Championship: Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.

Leinster Championship: Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.

Munster: Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford

Ulster: Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Derry, Monaghan and Tyrone

The Final competition then is the All-Ireland, round of qualification for which is based upon the teams performance in the provincial chamapionship. It runs as follows:

The twenty-eight teams that fail to win their respective Provincial Championships receive a second opportunity to reach the All-Ireland Series via the All Ireland Qualifiers (also known as the 'back door'). The qualifiers series takes place in the months of June and July and operates as follows:
  • Round 1 : All teams that fail to reach the semi-finals of their respective Provincial Championships (16 in total) compete in round one. An open draw system is used to divide the teams into eight individual match-ups. The winning eight teams progress to Round 2, while the losing eight teams are eliminated from the All Ireland Championship.
  • Round 2 : Each of the eight winning teams of Round 1 are drawn against the eight losing teams from the semi-finals of the four Provincial Championships. The winning eight teams progress to Round 3, while the losing eight teams are eliminated from the All Ireland Championship.
  • Round 3 : The eight winning teams from Round 2 are divided into four individual match-ups. A open draw is made to determine the four pairings. The winning four teams progress to Round 4, while the losing four teams are eliminated from the All Ireland Championship.
  • Round 4 : Each of the four winning teams of Round 3 are drawn against the four losing teams from the finals of the four Provincial Championships. The winning four teams proceed to the All-Ireland Series, joining the four Provincial Champions, while the losing four teams are eliminated from the All Ireland Championship.
  • The All-Ireland Series – All-Ireland Quarter Finals : The four Provincial Champions are drawn against the winning four teams from Round 4 of the All-Ireland Qualifiers. The four winning teams qualify for the All-Ireland Semi-Finals.
  • The All-Ireland Series – All-Ireland Semi Finals : The winning four teams from the All-Ireland Quarter Finals play-off. The two winning teams qualify for the All-Ireland Final.
  • The All-Ireland Series – All-Ireland Final : The two remaining teams meet in the All-Ireland Final on the third Sunday in September. The winning team is crowned All-Ireland Champions
As you can see it would entail quite a lot of work but I believe it could be really interesting to play and to create. Dublin would naturally be huge favourites to win it but it would be very interesting to see how the rest of the championship would fare out.

Any help whatsoever as to how to go about doing this as I am pretty new to editing is greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Ciaran
