Unknown Englishman Takes Charge Of New York FC

new-york-city-fc-crest-600x300.jpg

Hello people I've decided to return this year with a very different kind of save. All my normal saves have been with either Southampton, Chelsea or Crawley.... All in England. I've decided to take on a very different kind of save this year and venture across the pond and take the reigns of the MLS' newest franchise.... New York City FC!!!

I'm sure most of you know about them and the fact Frank Lampard and David Villa are both signed up. I've never managed in the MLS before and have a very basic understanding of the rules, I know about the whole designated player ruling and that but this will be a massive learning experience for me so please be patient if you know more than me, I'm open to help!!

Anyway they don't actually join until 2015 so I've fired up the save in July 2014 and I'm going to sort out the staff and homegrown players then holiday till 2015.

I'll follow this, since I'm curious as to how this'll turn out. c:
Good luck in the States!

Good luck. MLS is fun to have a save in, because the salary cap really does have an effect on how you build a team. Also trading for international slots / draft choices can be fun.

One thing to keep in mind, if you sell someone to outside the country you won't get all of the money as allocation, but you will get a good chunk of it.

Never done an MLS save and I love reading your normal stories so hopefully this will give me an insight in how the MLS works. Good luck mate.

This should be interesting since you can really put your own stamp on this team add to that the fact that the MLS is an interesting competition and you have all the ingredients for a good story, good luck!

Good luck with this, At least Lampard won#t stay at Man City like he might be doing in reality haha.

I normally like to thank everyone individually but thanks for all the interest. Nearly at the start of the season now and the teams looking very very interesting, such an interesting league with the draft picks and everything. Should have a pre season post up soon :)

Pre Season and Squad

Lampard made captain, Villa his vice
Both need leave of absent before start of season...
Promote many young players from the academy

With about only 5 players actually signed on I needed to get heaviy involved in the drafts. Luckily we had first pick in most of them so I managed to pick up a few decent players. Perry Kitchen, Dillon Powers and Andrew Farrell were the pick of the bunch really and all will be key players alongside marquee players Lampard and Villa.

Tactic

This is the tactic I'll be playing. I'm not happy with our wingers to be honest but they have bags of pace which is most important I'd say and when you have David Villa up front I'm sure he'll bag plenty of goals poaching in and around the area.

Schedule

That's our list of matches until July, as you can see we wont our first match 3-0 so we're off to a decent start. Think I'll do monthly reports in my old fashion(same as Klippybo).

I'm going to focus mainly on establishing us in the league, try and gauge our squad in comparison to other teams. LA Galaxy won the MLS last season and will no doubt be the team to beat, Seattle look like a decent side too but Henry has left our neighbors New York Red Bulls so we'll see how they cope.

Next update will be March's results as we kick off our very first season in the MLS!!

Decent start in the MLS
Tight game against LA Galaxy
Lampard and Villa showing difference in class already

MLS Results

NYCFC 3 - 0 FC Dallas

Farrell, Lampard(pen), McDonald

Brilliant start to the club's history with a solid 3-0 win. right back Andrew Farrell scored the clubs first ever goal from a lucky cross which floated in. Frank Lampard then smashed home a penalty to score his first goal for the club, sub Robbie McDonald then slotted home to wrap up the win.

Los Angeles 3 - 2 NYCFC

Villa, McDonald

Very tight game against probably the best team in the MLS. We took a 2 goal lead from a David Villa free kick, Robbie McDonald then netted shortly after, but Robbie Keane proved too good for our backline to handle and they ended up overwhelming us. But the stats show it was a very tight game and I was proud of the lads.

NYCFC 3 - 2 San Jose

Villa, Busch OG, Gall

Another 3-2 but this time it was us who came out on top!! Villa gave us an early lead, but USA striker Wondolowski netted a penalty to equalise. San Jose keeper Busch then unlucky scored an own goal after Villa's strike hit the bar and went in off him but Wondolowski scored again shortly after. But with the game looking to be heading to a draw Villa showed some magic and slipped in Romain Gall who finished superbly to give us a win over the reigning USA Cup champions.

Portland 0 - 2 NYCFC

Rowe, Villa

Straight forward win here with midfielder Kelyn Rowe scoring a decent long ranger. David Villa scored the games second breaking free on the counter and slotting neatly past the keeper.

NYCFC 1 - 0 Real Salt Lake

Lampard

Tight match but it was only us who really looked like winning, Frank Lampard gave us all three points with a classic, him arriving late at the edge of the box and slotting it low and hard intot the bottom corner.

Monthly Review

I really couldn't have asked for a better first month in charge here. Okay we lost to LA Galaxy but they really are such a strong team and we ran them very close. I was really proud of the San Jose result, they've a very decent side and a win over them proved to me that this team is solid enough to compete with the best sides in the MLS.

Villa and Lampard have really shone after worrying me with both of them needing a leave of absence before the start of the season but they seem settled enough now. But Robbie McDonald has impressed me this month, he's a regen I signed in one of the drafs and looks like abit of a talent for us.

I sometimes switch Villa to LW and pop him on as a sub, he's a decent little poacher and I really like him.

Player of the Month

Frank Lampard

Super Frank gets my player of the month with 2 goals in 5 starts. Average rating of 7.70 as well. Ran close by David Villa and centre back Nick Hagglund though.

Sitting pretty at the top but we do have a rough month coming up and it'll be interesting to see how we cope. But a cracking start!!!

Injury to David Villa as he's out for 4-6 weeks
Lampard's hot streak continues
Thrilling match against Seattle Sounders

MLS Results

Vancouver 0 - 3 NYCFC

McDonald(2), Lampard

Easy win over one of the weaker sides in the MLS, Robbie McDonald started up front with Villa on the left wing and fully justified my decision by netting a brace. Lampard scored just after McDonald's first with a great edge of the box effort.

NYCFC 0 - 3 Orlando

Not quite sure what happened here. David Villa got injured in training before the game but I was still sure we could get something from this match but we conceded early on and never recovered. Never mind just one of those games.

Seattle 3 - 2 NYCFC

Lampard(2)

999e4de5435ed7555ef305b16ca98a2e.png

WHAT A GAME!! We were 2-0 down against one of the best teams in the league and I gave the lads a right bollocking at half time, boy did it work. We came out fighting and Super Frank smashed in a double but with the last kick of the game Obafemi Martins scored but I was really happy with our response.

NYCFC 1 - 1 Columbus

Lozano

No win in 3 games now, really should have won it though. McDonald was having a stinker and I sent on Lozano who scored a decent goal on his debut. We conceded 7 minutes from time sadly though...

New England 1 - 3 NYCFC

McDonald(2), Lampard(PEN)

6e6adef21223944feaea5acabc527f4b.png

Not sure how we got a win here, we were just more clinical with McDonald scoring twice again and Lampard slotting home a penalty. Glad to get a win though.

NYCFC 3 - 1 DC United

Lampard(2xPENS), Gall

Easy win here with Lampard scoring 2 penalties before the first 20 minutes were up. Winger Gall netted before half-time, DC grabbed one back after the break but never looked like getting back into it.

Monthly Review

So a bumpy month a bit. Villa's injury disrupted us maybe and people struggled to step up, I really cant wait for him to come back to be honest. But at least we still had Lampard and Robbie McDonald stepped up a bit to be fair but he's just not at Villa's level. I was getting a tad worried when we hadn't won in 3 matches and the Orlando result was such a weird match but I suppose those kinds of things can happen in football, especially a league as unpredictable as the MLS!!!

Player of the Month

Frank Lampard

I don't want to keep giving it to him but 8 goals in 11 games is truly superb especially for a midfielder. He's just different class to be honest.

Top of our conference by 4 points and sitting third in the Supporters' Shield. I can see Seattle running away with it to be honest. Strange to see Toronto sitting so low considering they won finished top last season!!

It's the combined league table title. The MLS champion however is the team who wins the MLS Cup. ******* stupid, but there we go.

What exactly is the Supporter's shield?
Like Janso said its the combined West and East leagues. Team with the most points wins the Supporters Shield but the to win the MSL League you must win the knockout round which is determined by the two conference leagues when they're finished and drawn into a kinda knockout thing.
