Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has retired from all forms of cricket on medical advice.

I think he was past it anyway tbh, but still big loss for cricket. Was a great player in his prime.

I know nothing about cricket but he was still a name that everyone knew! Sad to see him retire

He was only 32. I dont think he was past it technically just physically his body could not keep up. He always played at 100% and ultimately that has cost him. I wish every Englishman showed as much passion and effort as Freddie Did.

All in all a total hero.

Yeah, he said he retired because his body could no longer cope with the rigours of cricket. Doctors advised him to retire.

He was a treat to watch while batting. He was among the top all-rounders when in form. Good luck for your retirement, Freddie!

Such a Great Player,I will always remember him for his performances in the 2005 Ashes....love u Freddie and good luck

Zzz nothing ‘sport’ and a nothing guy, can’t take him seriously as he just goes out and gets smashed every other night.

He seems like a class act and someone you want on a night out but cricket is like watching paint dry. Can’t see why anyone would idealise him?

What could he be doing that shows he ‘gives his all’ does he throw the ball with more enthusiasm than others or do somersaults while getting runs

srsly Kris, You can not be srs, this man was an Idol of England for a long time. He has played through the pain Barrier more time then i can count. To disregard Freddie shows a real lack of class.

I always remember him for the Ashes 2005. He was amazing. ****** good alrounder but injuries didnt help him. I rate him very highly. Excellent bowler plus good batsman. His gymnastic celebration and Mocking lee in that Ashes series was ******* brilliant.

Ha! And yet you're a football fan? I don't see Freddie going out and sleeping with prostitutes, or indeed a teammate's wife.

Cricket is a sport for the patient, the cultured, the honourable, the skilful. If you don't like it, then far enough, but why criticise a sport that is amongst the most popular in the world for no reason? I'm sick and tired of all the people mocking cricket. Keep it to yourself, just don't comment on a thread about cricket. Let cricket fans enjoy their sport whilst football fans watch their hair gelled prima donnas throw themselves to the floor and whine at a ref.

Your lack of cricketing knowledge truly shows.

Although Fred wasn't a cricketer to be considered one of the all-time greats on a par with Sobers, that is only because of his injuries. His stats tell very little about him Watching Flintoff power in was one of the greatest sights in world cricket over the past years or indeed ever.

Will be missed. A legend of English cricket.

Right I'm not gonna criticise cricket, don't wanna be disrespectful blahdy blah, but seriously, it said the rigours of Cricket ??? It's not exactly exhilirating is it ?

You play 5 days of test criket and then come back to me. tbh 40 overs on a sunday exhaust me mentally and physically.

Cricket is a game in which not much happens for a long time, before it explodes into life. It may not be exhilarating to the untrained eye, but even the untrained eye can see that it can have a damaging effect on your body. Seriously, whilst batsmen don't get injured too much, bowlers like Freddie were bowling at 90+ miles per hour. When you're bowling at that speed, the pressure on your knees can be in excess of six adult humans. Likewise your back takes a significant beating.

Freddie's knees were the problem.

EDIT: Just dug up Freddie's stats:

3,845 runs (average 31.77), 5 centuries, 226 wickets (average 32.78), 52 catches.

Rarely have stats said so little about a cricketer of such supreme talent.

Kasabian, you bowl 12 overs straight of your top speed bowling, every ball on the spot then come back to me and tell me how rigorous it was

A loss for England in the big games.
If you ever look at his stats he always stepped up both bowling and batting for the big games (Ashes 2005 and 2009) with probably the only exception being the Ashes 2007 when England as a whole were ****.

exactly how can you even call a game easy when you have never played it.

I never meant it like that, but as has already been posted, from a disttance it looks easy enough :S But Im not gonna judge...

Just like Barca's game looks so easy but when you try it, its **** tough. I'm not comparing two games just saying something looks easy but they are not.

Test matches takes toll so much mentally and physically.
