Any other programs to make graphics?

Well I downloaded Photoshop CS4 and CS5 last night, and I have already used the trials, I had the trials about 5months ago but didn't have a clue what to do.
Is there any other programs I can use?

Just do tonnes of tutorials from a site like good-tutorials.com. That is how I started - just make things. Anything. As you do this you will learn more about the tools and how they work.

Well, if you are a student you should be able to get the Student edition for a fraction of the price of the standard copy. That is how I get mine

The program itself is exactly the same, it is just cheaper for students.
