Ok, i've put it on my drop box. Not sure what to do now...
No idea, but I'll need some sort of link.

------

Anyway, your first tactic is poor. Matic (BWM/D) will get caught out on counters. Fabregas and Oscar, both playmakers, often get in each other's way. Probably due to Oscar's PPM of coming deep to get the ball. Your Play Wider instruction (WHY???) is keeping the ball wide and Hazard from cutting in. All three midfielders are fairly deep, so no real support for Costa.

Costa is a not a strong dribbler, but you've given him a DLF/A role, where he'll pick the ball up deep-ish and run at defenders. Baffling. You're Chelsea and even fairly strong teams will be cautious against you, even at home. That means Costa has 3-4 defenders to try and beat without support. At best, Hazard joins, but you're preventing him from cutting in.

Fluid is a poor choice given the specialist roles you've selected.

------

Your second tactic suffers too. Fabregas (CM/A) supports Costa quick, but if Costa is marked, he has no real options. Azpi might support quickly due to his PPM, but his role duty (Support) isn't helping. The other two, Matic and Javi Martinez will stay quite deep, so they're not viable passing options.

So what you're left with is 4 Chelsea players trying to burst through 5-6 defending players at least. You're playing Higher Tempo, Shorter Passing (and Passing into Space) football too, which is suicide given the lack of passing options and numbers up front.

This might have worked as a counter attacking system, but on Control and against cautious teams, it won't.

-------

You have to remember that in general, the 4-5-1 system utilises a lone striker who holds up the ball and waits for support/runners. So, a Support duty, in short. If you're going to give your striker an Attack duty here, he needs runners to quickly support or slow build up play to carefully work the ball forward until he becomes involved toward the final third.

First tactic works fine at home. No problems with that. Its the second tactic that needs work. It works wonders at home too, but against the big boys or away to anyone thats where I struggle. So what exactly are you suggesting? Change Costa to DLF Support, Matic to...? and Azpi to attack duty?
I could quite easily play tactic 1 against them, score 4 and let in 5 or 6. But I want my tactic 2 to be really solid but good on the counter and I just cannot figure out how to do it. Setting the mentality to control has improved my offensive play, but it still isn't solid enough and its very inconsistent and can be played against fairly easily. When I had the counter mentality, I just wasn't getting the ball forward at all.
Regarding the TI's of higher tempo, pass into space the thinking behind it was based around counter attacking, playing balls over the defence for Hazard, Costa, Schurrle to run onto as they're quick but this will only work if the opponent is being aggressive in terms of defensive line, numbers in midfield etc.
If you have any advice on what to change to have a defensively solid, but fast counter attacking tactic then I'd love to hear it!!! :)

I've given you a lot of ideas. Just use a system that suits your players. If you want a counter attacking tactic, then use Defend or Counter. Control isn't counter attacking.

Even with a counter mentality, if the counter attack is on, mentality and tempo is maxed out so it'll be quick attacking anyway. If there's no counter, they'll play quite safe and work the ball forward. The way you've set up is that they will be playing quick, short passes into space all the time. Might be good if you have the space to do it in, but if a team is cautious, you might struggle.

You just have to watch the games! If there's a counter on, your team will be looking for an out-ball. Costa will be almost on the centrebacks with an attack duty and if/when he receives it, he runs at them and often loses the ball.

Just as a check, I removed Play Wider, and I saw Hazard pick up the ball and cut inside with the very next ball he received. He played a nice little ball to Shurrle who crossed for Hazard and Costa.

Everything I wrote earlier, I noticed from watching 5-10mins of full match with each tactic. The match I watched was Everton away and they were cautious, even at home.

Thanks for your help man. Coming away from tactics quickly, do you think bad player reactions have anything to do with this inconsistency? I had a bad team talk 4 months ago and Oscar moaned to the team and now they're all unhappy. Despite several successful team meetings they just wont get over it.

They'll eventually get over it. If morale is low, it might cause confidence issues, but overall if your tactic is solid, you should do well. Keep an eye on their body language. If they're lacking confidence or playing nervously, get someone else on if a team talk doesn't do the trick. Especially if it's a key player in the system.
