Anyone else finding FM 2014 impossible to play?!

All of the above said, i'd rather it be coded harder to win, than harder to win because of bugs with defenders and strikers and all sorts of other things.

I had the same feeling, finally decided to go all out on a savegame, did a season in 2 days, spend my entire weekend on it. I took 1 hour to really get to know the team (heerenveen, Dutch league) Looking up possible tactics and ideas. I actually lost all my pre season matches... but the season went well and I am really enjoying now in the 2nd season. Note, I have played almost 200 hours of fm14, only 30 on this save, and this is the first game I am really enjoying. It is a difficult game and it needs your time if you want it to work. Some people can get lucky and just be succesfull with plug tactics but I think this version just requires more commitment then previous versions...:

TheBetterHalf has a great thread on tactics, this can really help you start up:

This is also a good helper for shouts:

These 2 really made my game. All I can say is try to stick to it... it is worth it

I completely disagree with you saying it is impossible to win! Yes there is bugs, and that may cause you to lose 2 or 3 points or go out in a cup. But even with that if you can't win a single game, you really do need to start looking at yourself what you can maybe do before criticising the game. For example whenever im struggling. I will watch 1 match, FULLY. That way i can often see what is really going wrong rather than just see the opponents scoring as you do most of the time in key and extended. From that you can adjust accordingly.

Hope this helps. Keep plugging away

This edition is much more about actually understanding the ME than previous versions. You shouldn't just download any tactic as that will not help you progress as a player. Of course you can always download to see what it is that makes those tactics work and where they differ from yours

There are a lot of good theory writeups on the SI forums. Have a look there and dont be afraid to ask questions. Provide some screenshots, explain your challenges and most of will be more than happy to genuinely help

The issue is they've turned this game into a tactic simulator, which very few people even want. A lot of people want to pick a tactic that would work decently well, win games (lose and draw a few naturally) and build their team. They don't want to spend 30+ hours every game iteration just to then have to tweak and change it every game aswell. Then once the AI gets used to it do it all over again to figure out a new tactic that'll work. That's practically a job, and it's getting more and more annoyingly difficult to plug and play every game.

Yes, there's FMC, but that's extremely stripped down and people just want to play the actual game without the hardcore tactic aspects.

I feel like parts of the ME which people complain about are also shortcuts the devs took to even out the stats at the end of the game or better reflect probable results. Like the whole strikers missing CCC's, I get that all the time and while it might help better reflect scores by reducing overall goals, it makes watching games infuriatingly annoying. Set piece goals (both for and against the AI), injuries etc.

It now feels like to play Football Manager you have to dedicate an amount of time into just learning the basics which is larger than the amount of time even large RPG games take to fully complete. SI seem to have forgotten that this is, in fact, a game.

I'm with you on that pal worse game ever. I've gone back to fm11 best one they have made.

With you

I'm with you pal worse game by a mile. I've gone back to fm11 best game they have ever made.

Well said, i agree, i love the layout of the game but i just want to stick a tactic in & win all the time, cause its a game & i want it to be fun, even fmc is hard lol, i do love the way u can get bids accepted or rejected there & then, it stops me going back to previous fms, then i miss parts of fm14,give me a super tactic now lol

1. Sticking a tactic and winning all the time as you say is not fun its extremely boring.
2. Its not merely a game its a football management SIMULATION and football management in real life is more like FM(14) than the way you would like it to be. Its actually quite amazing (in a bad way) how people buy a football management simulation game but when they do they cant be arsed to actually manage!
3. Planning, working from the start, finetuning stuff ... thats where the enjoyment comes from!
4. There ARE super tactics around - go to the tactics section/search for Mr Langvatn's threads one of which actually has a tactics testing leagues where its easy to find an unbeatable tactic.

1 it may be to you but it isnt to me, 2 ITS A GAME, and actually how many managers actually do what u hav to do in the game without farming it out, so your talking out of ur ****, 4 there are no super tactics actually anymore, last 1 was mr langs rock last year, even he cant make 1 this year, and if i pay £30 for a GAME, I expect to play it the way i want too, not the way some **** licking goodie too shoes wants to, get out of this thread & go to the thread that says' fm is sooo good i go to bed with it' ahahahahahah ***** llf

ok i realize something i need more than anything to play Football Manager, is Patience, something i used to have a lot off or i thought i did, something i have absolute nothing off now, i have since blowing up in the above post found a nice tactic that im liking so far and thanks to this quote from Mr Rosler on si forums:

DISCLAIMER - This is 14.3.1 - You will lose games, form and morale. When you do a tactic can only do so much.... that's when YOU, the MANAGER need to get to work and turn things around...... good luck!

i eat humble pie and going to try and be a patient manager.

Ill ignore the childishness and aggressive tone and STILL try to help you:

1. Here is the link to Mr Langvatn's tactics testing league:

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/shar...s-new-improved-tactic-thread-test-league.html

2. And here is the link to the Danilo tactic which is at the top of it (the league I mean) and won the EPL by 30 points:

i feel the pain, but with patience and a lot of studying you will realize the game is not that hard. you just need to learn what works in which situation. Started a game with Man U this morning, looked around on the sites for tactics that fit the team and the boards wishes(possession & attacking). Downloaded about 7, went through pre-season and settled on 3 which I rotate depending on my opposition. This is my results so far (no funny business):

Off course I still have to go through the Dec/Jan slump and the 2nd season. So its possible to download tactics & win, its possible to win, the game is not impossible.

Credits for the tactics: 4-2-3-1 DM MIGHT&MAGIC V2.0; LONE WOLF WINTER, Mn Utd 4-4-2, not sure who made them but google will help.
