I honestly don't feel like it's an achievement to win the league in any country by just buying the cheap beasts that you guys mention on here.

If i have a 17 year old kid at my club with 0.5 star ability and 4 star potential, i will use him over a 3 star ability 30 year old.

I don't judge my results in the first 3-4 years.

Anyone else?

You should talk to mersk...He is all about youth...I quote him " I just find it entertaining to develop kids into world class players, improving facilities, trying to get a new stadium and stuff like that. "

Its far more fun to build a team than take over a top club. I'd rather manage a team that requires to be built into a champion. Currently I am managing Maribor. Sure I win the league no problem but my goal is the Champions League which will take years of developing the club and growing our own youth.

My first save every year is with my hometown team, Scunthorpe United. Every year, I buy nobody at all, just focus on bringing the youth through and developing them. It's probably the most rewarding and fulfilling experience in the whole game for me. Plugging and plugging away, developing your youth with horrible facilities, until you finally get to that point where you can afford upgrades to facilities and everything. If this game had no youth development system, I wouldn't play it. Truly the most rewarding experience in the entire game for me.

If it did not have a youth development system it would be the same as those FIFA games.

I'm happy cause the board at Maribor agreed to another upgrade to my youth facilities. They were already at excellent. This is all thanks to getting slapped around in the champions league group stage a little.

Building your own team from the bottom is vital. You cant build the walls without the foundations. On my Sunderland save, my club were threatened with administration (despite me signing cheap youth players), and the board sold the youth facilities to avoid the points deduction, which would have relegated me if it came into effect. I survived and 2 seasons later I'm projected to be making 90 million pound profit over 4 years and I'm already in the Europa league and challenging for a top 4 finish in the Premier League.

The board already have plans to build new youth facilities and those youth players I've been signing are now 4 star players highly desired by top clubs. The only disappointment from the fans is when I sell my best players for cheap just because they are in their 30's. Why would I pass up 5 million pound for a 30 year old when I can buy an 18 year old with one less star current ability and 4.5 star potential for 2 million pound?

It's good to see others on here don't judge success by winning the league first time round like the people in the tactics threads.

Success depends more on your perspective.. Tactics are essentially for winning, or producing results, hence League titles count for more success there.. In this topic, the focus is more on Youth Development, hence the perspective changes, and people who value Youth Development as success, come here =P They don't have to be mutually exclusive xD

But yeah, Youth Development can be pretty fun.. Does sometime bug me out when there are no youth with even half decent potential, in some years, but nurturing them, and making them world beaters is definitely very much fun.. ^_^

I always like to build my own team, as I definitely feel it's more of an achievement when I've worked hard to nurture my young potentially quality players, and watch them become a quality team that wins me titles, than splash stupid amounts of money on the best players I can get.

same with me.I've got sampdoria and took me 9 years to win the champions league!upgraded the youth facilities and training facilities twice. I also developed junior coaching. I can't persuade the board though to build a new stadium!

Do you guys have any issues with the training aspect of youths?
I always start training them by the time I sign them but after some time, they complain about the training workload. I always have the overall training intensity at average level.

I'm not playing a 1 star player ahead of a 3 star vet, tho i will get him as much subs/games as i can afford him to.
I definitly get more satisfaction in "grooming" a youthplayer to become the next best thing then to buy ready made players.
With "grooming" i mean have all my seniors tutor this one talented youngster and focus his training.

For instance, looking at my 2016-17 everton squad.

LB: Shaw
CB: Marquinhos/Balanta Romagnoli
RB: Corchia

CMs: Barkley/Hughes/Ledson/Ward Prowse/ Gil ramires
Wingers: Vitinho/Massimo Bruno
Striker: Mitrovic/Fierro

Kinda proves my point LOL

I did that with Dinamo Zagreb last year.

At one point i had the best striker in the world and he was... homegrown!!!!! baby.

Buying the most disgustingly good wonderkids is the last thing i would ever do with a FM save. Your players are gonna be good as *** no matter what.

You won't know the feeling when your homegrown striker reaches this level by doing that:

That ain't even his prime.

I like to build a great junior squad and after some years pick up the kids and put them in the main team. After some years doing this, i just stopped buying players to the main team and just feed it with reserve team guys.

Doing this and winning the CL with them is always my goal

When trying to build through the youth team the most frustrating thing is when you don't get any high potential recruits with your annual intake. Means you have to go out and buy some to nurture which is hard to do when managing a team with a small transfer budget. Hopefully by second batch of youth at Maribor will produce something.

yes I feel a sense of achievement when I see youth players from my team actually made it. But just a question, if a youth player has a potential ability of 2 stars, is it possible for me to develop him into a future 3 or 4 star player? I never tried this before as I always develop those that has at least 3 and a half star or more potential ability. Really appreciate it if someone could answer me :)

Stars are the rating that you player receive, in comparison with the other players in your squad. So, if a player with 3 stars gets more, that could mean that your team grows weaker.

But you have to take in account that the PA of the players is crucial on this. Is a team with Messi and Neymar, with PA above 180,a player with a PA above 170 but less than 180 should be rated lower but still a great player.

I sign all players that my scout report says that they are going to be a world star.

I don't usually have a problem with the players complaining about the training workload. I also keep the overall training intensity on average, but if I wan't a player to work on something specific I keep their intensity on heavy.

The problem I seem to have with most saves is my board never want to upgrade the youth & training facilities which frustrates me.

Training issues can be related to personality or to work rate.

Genie scout in 12 and 13 stated in the reports that players with low work rate develop slower and adding this to personality issues can lead to unhappiness.

Is your team making a profit? Or is your board just wanting you to sign players ready for the first team?

My board at Maribor is a little contradicting. They will upgrade my youth facilities whenever I ask because they believe developing our own players is important, but when I ask to upgrade the training facilities so that our players can reach their full potential they reject my request because they want me to sign players who are ready for the first team.

Ahhh I see...Now I get it. Thanks for clearing things up :)
