Hello fellow Gooners, I just wanted to open a thread where we can discuss Arsenal and share some ideas and thoughts.
I've been looking forward to this edition of FM particularily because of the challenge it gives. Arsenal is in dire straits, and we have a huge bunch of deadwood and injuries to deal with.
The first thing I did when starting to play was making a list of the obvious problems in the squad:
- The exciting prospect Wilshere is out for 9 months.
- The dubious prospect Diaby is out for three months.
- Gibbs is terribly prone to making bad decisions. André Santos is brilliant offensively, but poor defensively.
- The morale is terrible.
- RVP is captain, and even though I love the guy, his influence is too low. Giving it to for example Vermaelen will make him angry.
- Chamakh, Djourou and Rosicky are difficult to get rid of.
- You're stuck with Benaoyoun and Park, so you better make good use of them.
- We don't have a backup RB! Jenkinson is too poor.
- Arshavin is exceptionally inconsistent.
- Squillaci is injured so you'll have to wait til christmas to sell him.
Then there's the fun list:
- Coquelin is awesome!
- Arteta really suit the Arsenal style.
- Frimpong looks like a decent talent.
- AOC is actually quite poor, but will eventually become great.
- Walcott and Van Persie form a deadly partnership.
- Gervinho is most useful.
- Solid bacbone consisting of Chesney, Sagna, Verm, Mert and Koscielny. Add a backup / talented RB and backup / talented CB and you're looking strong.
- Mertesacker is extremely dangerous given the right deadball tactics.
- A transfer kitty of about 35 million pounds plus budget adjustments and sale of deadwood gives you the opportunity to get some class players.
I got rid of Chamakh (really struggled. Had to sell him for like 5 mil.) Rosicky (about 2-3 mill) Djourou (on loan).
Bought:
Hamsik 26 M (He is really, really great both as CAM and CM).
Papadopoulos 11 M (Excellent CA and PA, and a fine backup DM)
Mbaye Niang 10 M (exciting potential. Bagged a couple of goals already)
Sime Vrsaljko 775 K(!) (THE buy in FM? Excellent backup and huge potential)
I'm gonna post some SS of my tactics and progress in the league.
This is my current lineup (roles included)
GK: Szczesny / Fabianski
LB: André Santos / Gibbs (Defend)
CB: Vermaelen / Papadopoulos (Defend)
CB: Mertesacker / Koscielny (Defend
RB: Sagna / Vrsaljko (Defend)
CDM: Song / Coquelin (Supportive)
MC: Arteta / Ramsey / Hamsik (Advanced PM)
MC: Ramsey / Diaby (Supportive CM)
CAM: Hamsik / Arshavin / Benayoun (Attacking)
CF: Van Persie / Arshavin / Park (Complete)
CF: Walcott / Gervinho (Poacher)
Playmaker is Hamsik
Target man Walcott / Gerv. Run onto ball.
I think this tactic molds Wengerball with good old fashioned counter-attacking football. Walcott is so deadly on the break!
I have to say I've been fortunate with injuries and some players have really lifted the team in poor games. Arteta has produced some stunners. Santos saved me with a cracker against Spurs. RVP is a demigod. Gervinho (retrained to striker) has bagged them in (hat trick and red card against Liverpool
)
Didn't think it would go so well, but luck is always good to have on your side.

Looking forward to the full release, I'm gonna shop for some great talents then
I'm really curious about how Cavani would fit in. Strange that he's been downgraded from 2011?
Anyway, looking forward to feedbacks and other tactics/ideas.
