Atletico Madrid: A New Beginning

url

Today, my big break finally came. After Quique Flores resigned from his job as Atletico Madrid manager a couple of days ago, I moved quickly to apply for the job. After long discussions with the board, I was given the job as the new manager of Atleti. Who would have thought it? An Englishman walking into the job at the Vicente Calderon. Maybe they saw my potential as I had worked two years previously as a youth coach at Real Betis or it may be that they want to try a different approach with an Englishman at the helm but who knows? Now, I must seize my big opportunity.

After scouring through the squad, I have found that we have some brilliant players here at the Calderon. I believe with a little bit of strengthening, the squad could challenge for the Liga BBVA this season.

The key players in the squad currently are:

Sergio Aguero

I have been an admirer of Sergio's for some time now. I have seen him play around five times and have marvelled at his abilities. I believe he has the potential to become the best striker in the world.

Diego Forlan

Since returning to Spain after his less than successful trip to Manchester, Diego has been in magnificent form. I look forward to working with him and Sergio.

Simao

Simao is a brilliant player and I look forward to watching him and helping him make the most out of his pure skill.

I also believe that Raul Garcia and Sergio Asenjo will have a big career here at Atletico.

'We must Strengthen'

Daniel Oakes has today made his first official statement as the manager of Atletico Madrid. He publicly announced that his team would definitely need 'toughening up', if they are to challenge for the Liaga BBVA this season. 'I have taken a look at how our team matches up against the strongest in the division and we can match them in attack and maybe the midfield, but we need some serious toughening up at the back, we are looking at a number of players to make the move here to the Calderon'. Rumours have been flying around that the players that Daniel Oakes may be looking for may come in the form of Nicolas Otamendi or young Englishman Gary Cahill.

It is rumoured that Gary Cahill may make the move to the Vicente Calderon.

'Reyes may move'

After Daniel Oakes joined Atletico last week, rumours have been flying around that Jose Antonio Reyes may leave the club. Oakes had this to say, 'If Jose would like to leave and the right bid comes in, I will let him leave but ideally I would like to keep him here'. It is rumoured that Reyes wanted to leave after hearing that his new manager was his girlfriends secret man on the side so it is unlikely that they would get on.

Atlético swoop to sign Otamendi and Femenia

url

In the last five days, Atlético Madrid and Daniel Oakes have completed their first and second signings of the new season. The first was 18 year old right back, Kiko Femenia, who arrived at the club for a fee of £220K, which is believed to have activated his minimum fee release clause. Kiko announced that he was proud to join such an illustrious club.

Atléti fans will be hoping they see more goals like this from this young dynamite.

Three days after completing the signature of Kiko Femenia, Manager Daniel Oakes swooped again to sign Nicolas Otamendi from Velez for a fee that will eventually cost the club £7.5 million. Nicolas is said to be proud to have been given the opportunity to play for such a well supported club.

'I am very happy with the two players I have brought to the team this week. I believe both players are immensely talented and will play a big part in the future of this club. I also believe that both Nicolas and Kiko will definitely play a part this season. This is not it for this window, I do expect us to sign a few more players yet'.

Atlético Madrid, today played Rayo Majadahonda in Daniel Oakes' first game in charge of the team. In honour of their new boss. Atleti romped to a huge 7-0 victory. Although it was weak opposition Atleti looked very impressive and they looked like a team with belief that they were at the turning point for the club. Diego Forlan was particularly impressive, with four goals to his name. Sergio Aguero, Juan Valera and Simao completed the scoring.
