With Coral, Bordeaux are favourites for the competition but only narrowly. Many people believe that Atlético are the team to follow however after their impressive outing in their last friendly.

Kun Aguero Shield Semi Final

Penalties needed to end a thriller

Today saw a brilliant game between two exciting sides here at the Vicente Calderón. In the end it was penalties that had to seperate the two teams. Bordeaux came back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to take it to the dreaded spot kicks although it was a very even game. Thomas Ulfalusi was the man of the moment, scoring the winning goal for Atlético. Simao was the man of the match with a stunning performance.

Stunning Atléti raise the Standard

Atlético Madrid produced a brilliant display today to lift the Kun Aguero shield with a dazzling 4-1 victory over Standard Liége. Atléti got off to a great start with the man himself, Kun Aguero scoring inside the first match. This was then followed by a nineteenth minute strike by Forlan and another from Kun took them into the break with a 3-0 lead. Standard got one back fifteen minutes after the break but Forlan sealed the deal with a kiss after sixty nine minutes to cap off a great competition win for the team.

It was only fitting that Kun Aguero was the man of the match in the final of his own tournament.

'I am absolutely delighted with our competition win even if it is only a friendly cup. I believed we would have a very tough game against Bordeaux which did prove to be so but I tried altering my tactics against Standard and went with a new set up and I was very impressed with how the guys improved. We will probably have one more friendly before we kick off the season proper and I hope that we continue to impress'.

this is by far one of the best threads i saw well done mate continue the good work i will be stopping in from time to time to look how your doing !!!!

Thank you so much mate, means a lot.

Love the title when you won the Kun Aguero Shield "Stunning Atleti raise the Standard" Beautiful.:'(

Atlético complete comeback to win a thriller

Today an absolutely stunning game took place at Luzhniki, Moscow as Atlético triumphed in a nine goal thriller. Atlético looked as if they were sinking without a trace after going 3-0 down through just over half an hour. They managed to get one back before half time but all still looked lost for Oakes' side. The new manager must have said something at the break as his side were rampant in the second half, successfully completing a memorable comeback. Diego Forlan was in magnificent form yet again with four goals.

'I was very impressed by the side's determination here today. We are still getting used to this new tactic and I believe that we will be there soon. Diego was magnificent yet again chipping in with a quad of goals. Next time I report to you, hopefully we will be through to the Champions League group stages'.

Atlético unlucky in defeat

View attachment 56802

In a thrilling game in front of 25,500 fans in Donetsk, Shakhtar narrowly came out on top. It was a great game from start to finish and three goals were not enough for Daniel Oakes' Athlético side. 'I am not too downheartened by the defeat today, I think we played well but just did not take all our chances. We are still not out of this tie and I still think we will go through as we have three away goals and I believe that we will beat them at the Calderón.

Atléti qualify in impressive fashion

View attachment 56803

In the return rendition against Shakhtar, Athlético Madrid were brilliant from start to finish. They bossed the game going three ahead before the break. They then came out and continued their dominance and earned a well deserved victory. Atléti will now be in the draw next week for the Champions League group stages.

Diego Forlan was in emphatic form once again, completing a hat trick for in form Atléti.

Reyes finally on the move

url

It has been circling around for a while and it has finally happened. José Antonio Reyes has agreed a deal to join Shakhtar Donetsk on a one year loan deal. It is believed that the loan will pull in £900K for the club and Shakhtar may sign Reyes permanently at any time for a fee of £8 million.

'No more signings'

url

After offloading José Antonio Reyes to Shakhtar for the season, Atlético manager Daniel Oakes has announced that there will be no more signings this window. 'I believe that we have made some very good moves this window bringing in Kiko and Nicolas who are both going to be great players for our future. We have also agreed to bring in young left back Dodo next summer for around £1 million and I believe that he too will become a great signings. I let José go because it was clear to me that he wanted to leave the club to clear his mind so I have given him a temporary move'.

As you can see, there are some very interesting ties in this years Champions League group stages. Group F could prove tricky for Athlético Madrid manager Daniel Oakes when taking on two sets of British opposition. Elsewhere, Spanish giants and defending champions, Barcelona were drawn in a tough group alongside Juventus, Marseille and Partizan. Whereas the most difficult group is possibly Group G with all four teams having a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Wow interesting Champions League group, it could be a tough one.. :)

Tough group Dan,but sure you can pull through ;)

But,just for the future,it's spelt Atletico,not "Athletico" :D

Tough group but I expect you can do it dude. :)

Atlético just too good for Espanyol

An 83rd minute Diego Forlan goal was the only thing that seperated the two sides in a narrow Atlético win. Atléti were the better team throughout the game but did not really convert their chances. The Forlan goal came as a saving grace to Atléti fans as they went on to win the first game of the season.

Daniel Oakes said:
I am very happy with our result today. We played very well and did not convert many chances. I am very happy yet again that Diego got the goal and he is at the top of his form. I am also proud of the support we got off the fans today and am very grateful for the support.

Forlan yet again got the goal for Atléti.

Meh, you beat Espanyol. Not following now :@

Only joking (A) Good luck, looks good so far mate.

I am really sorry guys but I am not feeling this story at all. I am not enjoying the league and believe that I could do a much better story in England. I know I suck for getting rid of this so early but I could not put all my effort into it without enjoyment. I reckon I will be starting one with West Brom soon, depending on how I feel so if you followed that I would be very grateful. Thanks guys and do not hate me for this.
