Attributes over Reputation?

In my Spurs save I want to buy players based on positional attributes that are a fraction of the cost of the big name players.
Will this work or will my board and fans want big name signings?

I can't confirm because I don't really play as bigger clubs, but my impression is that as long as you are successful on the pitch, and you don't destroy the club financially, your transfers will be tolerated.

EDIT: You can also go to the Club Vision window, and check for any transfer goals the board have outlined. If any of them are listed as "Required", then you might want to fulfil that vision.

Whenever my board ask that I sign big named players I ignore it and since I'm hitting most of the other targets nothing gets said about it.
