away from home in europe?

Ok so I took united on my first season I won the league the league cup and got beat in the semi final of the f.a, on the second season im absolutely destroying the league won the league cup and am in the semis of the f.a but I just got knocked out of the champions league with a crazy result, ok so I beat dortmund 4-1 on the first leg of the last 16 so fielded a weakened side thinking it would be easy.... they hammered me 7-2 but thats not all. I lost all 3 of my away games in the group and was very lucky to get through. can anyone help WTF this was a very average dortmund side
 
Clearly you need a tactic for home and another for away games. Like IRL playing away is difficult, no matter who you face.

The one thing I don't like about FM is how extreme the difference is between home and away. I admit, it should definitely be a bit harder to win away from home, but I sometimes feel FM takes the **** a bit with the extreme change in difficulty between home and away. In my opinion anyway :)
 
they where playing all this inticate stuff around the box maybe I should play an anchor
 
It's all guessing games until you actually post some info, like your tactical setup for a start.
 
I usually play a 4-2-3-1 with di maria on the left and delofeu on the right ( attacking,fluid) but ive still got blind, was considering dropping mata as playmaker and throwing him in as anchor
 
That's not your tactical setup. There was something interesting though. If you're using an Attacking mentality, how are you surprised at getting whipped away from home?
 
My point stands. Big European away games. Surely. Surely you must have thought it's too attacking?

It is the point.
You can't play Attacking football away from home to a big club in Europe.
Just because you were beating everyone else with ease doesnt mean you'll beat Dortmund with ease.
Every match is different and you've got to adjust accordingly.
