Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli had claimed that he would end his wild ways if was given the chance to meet Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

Balotelli, 20, has attracted criticism for his behaviour since joining City in the summer and has been left out of Italy's Euro 2012 squad for the matches against Slovenia and Ukraine due to his sending off for his club against Dynamo Kiev.

However, the former Inter Milan star has maintained that he would change his ways if he could talk to his idol face-to-face.

"Introduce me to Ronaldo and I swear I'll behave to the end of my playing career," he told Le Iene. "I never met him, so you know when you see the idol of a lifetime it can change your way of thinking? There are many great players, but Ronaldo was the greatest and so one word from him is worth a thousand from the others."

Balotelli also jumped to his own defence, claiming that his behaviour has improved and that fans would soon start to see the full range of his talent.

"I already behave myself fairly well, but I'll try to stop doing those stupid little things,'' he added. ''It happens. You'll soon see the real Mario on the field!"

Even there, he still sounds like a spoilt mis-behaving child. He has half a chance of BEING Ronaldo if he'd stop acting like such a f*ck up. What I would have given at his age to have his talent, and yet he seems happy enough to blow it away.

To be fair to Balotelli, he's been repeatedly saying in the media since he was sent off against Kiev that he wants to improve. He's sought out the advice of Cesare Prandelli and has acknowledged his mistakes publically.

Hope he sorts it out, because when/if he does we will have one beast of a player on our hands.

Best character in football today. I love him! Not a week goes by where he hasnt done somthing great or completely mental :D

Joined villa has he? :P

He reminds me so, so much of Anelka as far as his mentality goes. You could argue Anelka still got to a decent level, for me he only really fufilled half his potential.

when I first read it I was thinking hmm... is he trying to blackmail City in attempting to buy Cristiano Ronaldo... (I lol'd inside then opened the thread)

If I was Mancini, I'd pay for a ticket for Ronaldo to pop over to Manchester right away. Then, a week later when Balotelli shows that he hasn't changed at all, I would take the money for the ticket out of his wages and hire him a nanny to help pick up his toys when he throws them out of the pram...

does anyone know about his past? family etc? we are all a product of our upbrining and maybe there were some problems... he does not look like a normal 20yr old in my opinion...

I believe he was adopted. Dunno if his parents spoilt him rotten or something.

IIRC his real parents were too poor to afford a good house and also his medical care for a problem he had with his intestines, and therefore he was fostered to the Balotelli family. He hates his real parents; when he got famous they tried to get him back but he refused as he claimed they were just trying to get his money.

This is all IIRC, but I think he had a pretty turbulent childhood.

He did have a pretty turbulent childhood as someone else said (real parents etc.). He also grew up playing football in Italy and has faced some pretty bad racism (from his own fans as well as opposition), if fact I think theres been protests or something about him playing for Italy from some far-right groups who think only white Italians should be eligible.

His behaviuor is inexcusable but stuff like that would affect anyone in all fairness.

He does have the potential to be one of the great players, just needs someone like SAF looking after him, Mancini doesn't seem to know what to do!
He needs to:
1. Stop acting like a spoilt brat
2. Don't say your the best player in the world when there are players like messi, ronaldo & xavi
3. Learn how to put on a bib

If I was on £125 grand a week, I wouldnt give a **** how I wore a bib

the guy is an idiot , so much talent so little brain. most players work a lifetime to gain as much talent as he was born with. Real shame. Always thought that Mancini could get the best out of him as he knows him from their Inter days (so Mancini cant say he suprised with his actions)

One way to help him if if part of his massive wages were performance related. Loan him out to lower league club, He enjoys lifestyle without the hard work

other players have experienced rascism in the past , and have still acted in a dignified manor

He sounds like a child. Let me do this and I promise I'll be good Mummy.
Such a shame about his attitude because he has got the potential to be brilliant.

I firmly believe that if you admire and idolise someone enough, then meeting them face to face can lead to a significant change in ethics. Still, what does he expect Man City to do? Fly him in so they can discuss life over coffee? Also, why should Man City trust him in that it'll have the desired effect? Seems a bit vague tbh.
