I haven't been round here for a while as after seeing The Dark Knight I felt I just had to replace my Batman comic collection that my ex mrs chucked out. There's another 50 or so sitting in the bedroom still unopened so the list is a lot bigger than that. I have no idea how much this has all cost so far, but I've still got a way to go.

I've got a blog going HERE which I'm updating as I go along if anybody's interested.

Someone's been busy. How much has it set you back so far?

I'd have a guess at between £250 - £300. Could be a bit less or a bit more, I haven't been counting to be honest! My wife would probably kill me if I could put a figure on it, specially since our second kids due next week...

Cool, bet you have only read about 3 or 4 of them since you started buying them though ;)

Just tell her they will be the kids inheritence that way you can spend as much as you like!

Subscribed to your blog also :)

ditto. never been much of a comic book fan either but then again i never gave them a chance. how much are each setting you back?

Yeh I've never really been a fan (apart from Dandy, Beano, Wullie & Broons :D) so I don't really know what theyre like. I might have to have a look at them one time. I'm sure I'd like them though if I gave them a try.

Always read the beano when I was younger, could get it for like 40p back in the day

 Sean, u read oor wullie and the broons...but your english!

Between 40p and £2ish for the regular issues. There are some special issues though (variant covers and first printings etc) that cost more. The highest I've paid so far is £12 for an extremely rare variant. It's a recent issue and the price had gone up by £5 two days after I'd bought it! I'll post some Ebay links to the more expensive ones I've bought so far.

I'm pretty sure if you did you'd get hooked. there are so many titles out there that you're bound to find something you like. DC Vertigo do a great line in mature readers comics too (Constantine was based on Vertigos Hellblazer series) - if you can find the run of Preacher on Ebay I'd highly recommend that. If anybody wants any help/info on getting into comics or what direction to take, I'll be glad to help! :D

sure man always something i fancied but find spiderman etc kinda lame.

so if its something different then fire away with idea's

Right, off the top of my head at the moment...

Batman is into some weird and trippy **** in RIP, written by Grant 'how many drugs have I taken' Morrison. it promises to be 'The End Of The Batman As We Know It'. You'd only have to jump back 4 issues to catch up on the storyline. Batman runs alongside Detective Comics (where Batman first appeared), and the writing on this series at the moment is receiving some serious acclaim. Paul Dini is making a real fist of this title. Try it and see what you think.

Also going on in DC is Final Crisis - the story that means the end of the DC universe (it reboots itself every now and again), so to jump into that and then pick up on a fresh character that grabs you may be a good idea. Again this is written by Morrison so I don't know how easy it reads as I've not bought it. It is early in the series though and any good comic shop should have the run from #1.

Forget Marvel comics - they don't know their **** from their heads, they've just lost half of their Spidey-fans as they've just written off years of his continuity in one 'money-spinning' ****** storyline. The Hulk is also getting **** reviews. I used to get The Punisher though which was always a good read (a world apart from the two wank films they've knocked out).

Try The Watchmen graphic novel (yup the one that inspired the upcoming movie), it's been critically acclaimed and I must get that myself at some point. Then there's the Vertigo titles, check out the current list of titles HERE. They've knocked out some top quality stuff in the past as I said earlier. The Preacher back issues are a must. You'll find plenty of these on Ebay. Start from issue #1 though to get the full effect - it's well worth it.

For a brief rundown on most of DC's characters, check the Origins section of this page out. This should give you an idea of what you may or may not find interesting in the DCU. (Can you tell I'm not a big Marvel fan?)

Then there's Spawn over at Image comics, I used to get that too years ago when Todd McFarlane used to write the character he created. Apparently sales have fallen on this title as other creative teams have been given the reigns and the quality fell (I recently bought a few back issues and it wasn't that bad), but now McFarlane is going back to his creation so it will rocket again. But don't get taken in by the movie as it was **** all like the comics.

I'll post more informative stuff up later. Give me a rough idea of what you'd like to read (heroes, none heroes whatever) and I'll narrow some stuff down, If it is Batman that tickles your fancy, i can give you loads of help on starting points and key stories to get. most of these can be bought in trade paperbacks - meaning you don't have to get all the individual comics and can catch up on years of continuity quite quickly and cheaply. This applies to most comic titles, not just Batman.

There's only 200 in the world. It's one of the Batman collector's Holy Grails, so I'd gotta have it!

I didn't think it was sad until you showed that one :p

I've been reading your blog every now and then Booz, you're such a nerd. The collections looking pretty impressive now though.

Yeah man I'm a big geek. Thing is, although I've spent around £700 so far buying 'em, the collection as a whole is worth two and a half grand.

That's the beauty of Ebay. Some people just don't know what they're selling.
