So I can easily beat the mid table clubs and lower, however I simply struggle against the Dortmunds, Schalkes, Man utds etc. I can understand with a team like aston villa playing Arsenal having a very defensive, counter attack style, but as Bayern I aim to control the game. I jus played Arsenal in the quarter final of Champions league and got battered 6-0 away. I had a balanced team with Madzukic, two attacking wingers, an attacking midfielder, gotze i think in this game, Kroos in cm and Martinez in the anchor man defensive role. But I still conceded 6 and failed to score. What are the best tactics for these matches?

Its hard to know without knowing your formation/player duties exactly, but the tactic could be really conflicting and unbalanced and with bayern you can still win the smaller teams because of their superior quality players.

well what are the best tactics against any big team though, forget my team, what is a general rule or ideal tacttics?

Well, normally, I would play it more cautiously, but seeing as you're Bayern, there should still be a way to play attacking against big teams.

yeah, thats what i thought. I have just decided to leave bayern as it has now got to the point where I simply have no clue on tactics. I feel FM14 is much more random than previous FM's. I have just lost away to stuttgart 4-2 after ebating arsenal at home 3-0. Makes no sense. they were supposed to have one of the worst work rates and concede a lot from the right wing so I concentrated on that but obviously just couldn't get anything from that.

If you are really struggling, just keep it as simple as possible or you will just confuse yourself even more. Try building a simple 4231, standard mentality, and balanced/fluid philosophy. Leave team and player instructions for now. Just make sure that you have some defensive balance and movement.

My suggestions: GK, 2 full backs, 1 central defender and and one ball player, 2 central midfielders, 2 wide attacking midfielders, 1 central attacking midfielder, 1 striker.

You can play about with the roles/duties but don't have both the full back and the winger on the same side with an attacking mentality, or you will just be opened up. Try having a support fullback with an attack winger on one side, and an attack full back with a support inside forward on the other side.

The fullback has little reason to attack with a winger because they both offer the same job in attack, but an inside forward will cut in and leave the space for a fullback.

Centrally, you could have a deep lying playmaker set to defend, alongside a box-to-box midfielder. I would only recommend this to a strong team like Bayern, as it is not a water-tight midfield, unless you have suitable quality players. Just make sure that the DLP(D) does NOT have 'gets forward when possible'.

I like an attacking midfielder set to attack as this position seems to get just as much goals as a striker. Also you cant go far wrong with an advanced forward as your striker.

Bayern have some great players to fit these positions also.
