FIFA Executive Committee member Franz Beckenbauer says he has "limited" faith in FIFA after the way it handled the vote for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups on December 2, and the way it has acted since then.

Two of the favourites to stage the events, England and Australia, received only two votes and one vote respectively, and Beckenbauer, who was one of the 22 committee members eligible to vote, feels betrayed by FIFA for revealing such statistics.

He says that the ballot should have remained secret and that nobody, not even he, should ever have known how many votes had been cast for each individual candidate, and in each round.

"The Executive Committee was told that neither we nor the public would get to know the precise voting figures," he told Germany's Bild newspaper.

"After each round of voting, we were only told which candidate had been knocked out.

"And then a few hours later, I hear on the radio who had received how many votes. My faith in FIFA is limited."

Since it became public knowledge that England and Australia had not even made it through the first round of voting, and that other strong bids from Spain and Portugal and the USA had been overlooked, FIFA has spent more of its time criticising the losers rather than glorifying the winners, according to Beckenbauer.

He had already announced last month that he will be resigning from his post at FIFA in March and the vote has now given him even more reason to walk away.

"I am disappointed with the way FIFA have dealt with the results after the vote," he added.

"They have made a disgrace of the seven defeated nations, particularly England and Australia."

I fully agree with him.

But I lost it time ago, so as many people.
They need to think and change.

The only body who can put reall pressure on FIFA is the IOC

he was the one who came out and said lets have the World Cup 2022 in January??? He is part of this charade and he knows it.

Australia got one vote? From themselves. Did not know this, that alone is strange, I mean who in their right mind would vote to host a World Cup in Qatar over Australia? It's ridiculous.

At least it'd be winter (by their standards) in Australia for a June/July World Cup...

Yer lets do that, imagine the club vs country row that it will start.

I'd imagine we'd get an elongated winter break for that season and make the league run until June/July.

that's a different issue to what he is saying. still not sure how is part of the charade

He has always been right up Fifa's ****, lets just change the history of the WC and move it to January shall we?? He should have said "it shouldnt even be in Qatar" insted.

no he hasnt. beckenbauer is probably the only good thing FIFA had going for them

Sadly money talks
who know how much cash those sheiks gave FIFA under the table
i''m guessing thre are more scandals ahead of us.
I'm Croat btw and i really feel sorry for both Australia and England
hope thy don't start some club vs nation war like the NBA got
imagine many Eurochamps or World cups without Cristiano Ronaldo Rooney, or a game between Man UTD and Chelsea with reserves playing cuz all firt team players are at the world cup

Maybe. I don't think the ICO can give sugestions or being an example to nobody.

I've also lost faith on it. They gave the olympic games to China! (wtf?!).

Is a huge shame that this kind of events are allowed to be organized by countries which infricts human rights so much.

i.e. now the controversy about Qatar is regarding homosexuality, as it is punished and pursued there.
And what's Blatter reaction to the criticism about this? Look: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/9284186.stm

What a big disgrace.

The thing that frustrates me isn't any individual, its the whole organisation. If Beckenbauer is so confused as to how England/Australia didnt get more votes then why didnt he vote for either ? its all talk and he's just trying to keep relations between himself and England civil for his own sake.

Beckenbauer being a fifa committee member should know more than anyone what happens within the organisation, saying it isn't good enough is an understatement, spill the beans son !!

I see Blatter was saying it's nothing to do with money on SSN the other day but that's Bullshit and he knows it. I hope more journalists dig up dirt and expose these fraudsters for what they are XD

they are a great example of how to turn yourself around though, which is what fifa need to do

I don't agree with what he's said. Read it again; he wants less transparency. He's as much to blame as the others as he voted.
