Read my post. George Best and Stanley Matthews. They were the pioneers of skillful dribbling.

George best was from northern ireland.

And i never even thought of matthews. If a mod would add him to the poll i would happly accept it.

Im also of the opinion that Robinho shouldnt be in the list or Figo and Nedved as neither were in the same class as other options.

Robinho is not the best allround player but he does have incredable skill and ability with the ball at his feet. Nedved's inclusion is more than justified. He was incredable with the ball and easily could glide past defenders.

I agree they are not in the same class as others but like i said eariler it really is just a matter of opinion on what you think qualifies someone as the best dribbler ever.

Completely agree, Dont think Messi and C. Ronaldo shold be in the list yet as they are relatively young. Im also of the opinion that Robinho shouldnt be in the list or Figo and Nedved as neither were in the same class as other options. Nobody will say one player except younger people who choose messi simply as they havnt seen some of the older generation of players.

Agree with that. I do remember watching Keegan, Gray, Reid, Rushie and Dalglish playing, but at the same time, would've absolutely loved to see Best, Dixie Dean, Stanley Matthews, Alan Ball. Truly wished I'd seen them play-would've been a joy to behold.

Thing is, you don't necessarily have to be a brilliant player to be a good dribbler. Look at Quaresma: one of the best dribblers in the entire world, but only a decent-to-good footballer. It makes this kind of thing much more difficult, as you can have the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha alongside Pele.

Yes but Northern Ireland were considered as part of Britain at the time, still kind of are. England over the years have had plenty of excellent dribblers who could hold their own against others on that list.

Other names that deserve mention:
Hugo Sotil, Omar Sivori, Tostao, Esubio, Jairzinho, Zico, Rene Houseman and Miguel Loayza also deserve mentioning. All excellent dribblers of a ball and will never be mentioned as most of the names are unfamiliar...

Your knowledge is better than mine here mate. Apart from Esubio Zico and Tostao i have not heard of any of them.

Ooh, Jairzinho deffo deserves a mention, great shout. Hristo Stoichkov as well.

Forgot about Stoichkov. Another excellent player i had the honour of seeing in his prime. Nice shout Godcubed

Excuse me, what the **** is Best doing in that list?
The British really are chauvinistic...

George Best. His dribbling and close control was out of this world and this was when pitch was damp, muddy grounds where the ball didn't roll without bouncing. Such an ace..

And also Maradona. Both had close control that was unparalleled.

Have you seen Best dribbling past the players?

I didn't chose Messi because I didn't see the players like Cruijff play. I did it because I think he's the most agile and quickest dribbler ever, and because it would be much harder for a player to dribble around Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand than some unfit 60's or 70's defenders.

It's fine if you think someone else is better, but saying Messi shouldn't be on the list at all is crazy.

Best had some incredible balance, if he got knocked, he would just keep going. Wish that happened more these days.

I voted for Ronaldo (Brazillian) due to the fact I loved watching him late 90's early 2000's, he was my Idol!

Don't get me wrong, players like Cryuff and Best were/are some of the best :) but that was before my time!

I also think (even as an Arsenal hater) that Henry should be included on that list, he was phenomenal!

players like Messi and Ronaldo will be the best once they retire! you can only judge them once they have come full circle in their careers! but in 10 years time or so I will be voting for Cristiano Ronaldo... :)

look at the 30second trick :)

Never watched many of the players before the late nineties, so of the others my vote has to go to messi, for the type of skill he showed in that goal against madrid in the semi's and arsenal this year and last year in the champions league.

Good shout Raikan I always forget how good a dribbler he was because I usually just remember his finishing

Best or Cruyff.
But why isn't Giggs on the list? Is it because, even though he's 37, he's still on the odd occasion running past defenders like they aren't there?
And what about Henry? Sure he isn't known for his dribbling prowess, but he was unstoppable when he got started.

Ronaldinho could move the ball at his feet so easily. Every time he was on the pitch I was waiting for him to magic somthing up, more often than not he would. Amazing tricks that made defenders look daft

And you quite clearly know nothing about the best dribblers of the ball with that comment. I suggest you find some footage and examine it closely, before making patronising comments. Bad, bad person.
