Best Starting Set-Up

I started playing FM this year, and I absolutely love it, but sometimes when I searched for players that I know exist in the world, I am unable to find them in the game, I'm guessing this has something to do with the leagues I selected when I started?
I also know there is an issue as I have seen players mentioned in this forum that I cannot find ANYWAY within the game, so I was wondering if there was some saved data I had to install extra or any advice on the best databases/leagues to start with would be MUCH appreciated!

It depends on your computer and your managerial preferences really.
You can always set up a custom database at the beginning, when setting up a game, by loading all players based on a specific country for example.
(I usually played with England, Italy, Spain and Portugal loaded down to the 2nd divisions. For FM11 however, I've also decided to add the top flights in Germany and France when starting a new save.)
