Better finishing in my weird 3-1-3-2-1

I played as always 4-1-2-2-1, but defense was complete disaster. Now suprisingly with 3 defenders it is much better, but I still sometimes can be destroyed by enemy wingers and tons of crosses.

However this is not my biggest concern because what annoy me more is attack.
For example here, I played fine, so many chances and I still draw because enemy Leverkusen scored from set piece.

It is not exception, often I got more than 10 chances and score one goal, enemy much less and still in the end it's 1:1 or I barely win. Can I improve something without moving players to different positions?
Player instructions:
GK->pass to def
DM->short pass
CM's-> short passes, tighter marking, closing down and less shot
Wings->less shot, direct pass
AF->hold ball, move into channels

I didn't do anything with set pieces so often enemies score from them even I have three tall, good CB's...

I tried using a similar formation to that also, except only 2 centrebacks. I read about how their is an issue with the ME about how it uses strikers and fullbacks. I also read that the game favors the Barcelona method of bombing forward wide while the centrebacks are overpowered to the point of being great centre's and fullbacks. So my 2 centre backs done the job of a 4 man defence. I threw together a tactic in less than 2-3 mins. Results seemed good, sadly my squad was weak in area's I'd need added depth in. It was Christmas before I began using the tactic and my squad has some injuries. I was still pleased with the results. 5-1 away at Newcastle, 3-0 away at Everton, 6-1 at home to Hull and a 2-2 draw with West Ham who were second in the league and I lost to 3-1 on the opening day. Seems that not using fullbacks or wingbacks confuses the ME, using out and out strikers doesn't work aswell either. False nine, trequartista and Target men are the best in support when possible. The ME is heavily against the player atm it would seem, it sees these tactical tips even it up
