is there something more than the quick agile forward ?

I've been trying to play some strong lone forwards like mourinho did with drogba but nothing works for me.I can get the team to play direct,fast and wide but scoring goals is ten times harder than with a mediocre fast striker.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem too. I think it's because slow strikers always struggle at FM. In my arsenal save Walcott score much more goals than RvP because RvP can't beat the CB with his low pace. The same happen with tall target man because crosses is useless in this game. The chance that crosses will meet the head of your target man (not from corner) is only about 10% , and the chance they'll score from header is even lower. That's why target man type striker is very unpopular in FM. I just stick with pacey strikers all the time

If you are settin the fast striker as a target man. In the instructions, set him as the target man to "run onto". That might help. If not use him as a poacher.

@BeadSTARR
that's not what I was asking,I am bored of hitting trough balls to a fast striker,resulting in an unrealistic amount of CCC and goals

Wallcot played 29 (24) games for me, spent a fair bit of time injured and scored a massive total of 5 goals with an averange rating of about 6,7......while both RvP and Chamakh ether score or assist every match they start

what am i doing wrong?

try using a target man with good anticipation,off the ball and positioning.About the roles,if you're playing a counter tactic,put your players to cross byline and to target man,target man supply to head,and float crosses.Use a flat 3 mc's to get the rebound of the crosses(that is what is going to happen most of times).All i can think about is that.

@falahk : I don't know. I don't use Chamakh at all because he has terrible stats for a striker . I play Walcott as lone striker in 4-2-3-1 and he often beats 2-3 CB with his pace and passed it to the net despite his dribbling and finishing is only 14 and 13. While everytime RvP receive through ball he always get tackled because he can't beat his man

You will need to find a strong balanced striker who has high: Off the ball / anticipation / heading / strength / balance / jumping / aggression

Other slightly less important stats: Finishing / composure / technique / first touch / bravery / determination

The reason why the speedy strikers score is because they have the stats to beat 1 or 2 men and run around the keeper....this obviously isn't an option for a strong target man. Just like in real life these guys are foxes in the box. They find space and they are brave, aggressive, and strong enough to go after and win headers. Do not underestimate the aggression attribute!

@Montanaro
I know what stats to look for,that's not the problem.Getting that lone striker to score from the penalty area is.With patch 11.2 I was scoring quite alot like that using an attacking target man and 2 supporting wingers while playing 4231.Something has changed in 11.3

Sign Necid and stick him upfront ;)

For big slower forwards I usually play a pacey AMC behind them, have them play one-twos and run onto the ball. Usually resaults in one or the other through on goal, also having two fast wingers helps then float the crosses into the center.

I see your point but that way the AMC will break ahead of him and become the striker at the end of the team's move.I want the big guy to be the main striker,"be there" always,scoring from crosses,rebounds,etc.

Id Go for a tall lone striker like Zigic or Crouch and get the wingers to cross alot!

Which is precisely why the attributes I pointed out are extremely important.

For the striker to "be there" they need the right mental stats. Look at target men and lone (slower) strikers in real life...they are fearless and aggressive in the box and are always looking for space to receive the ball since they aren't gifted enough to create the space with dribbling and technique.

For these types of strikers, mental stats are far more important than finishing/technique/dribbling which are hallmarks of the speedy quick strikers.

@Montanaro

I agree,but that's not the point of this thread.I simply can't get that kind of striker to hit any kind of ball in the box.No mather how I set him up or the rest of the team,crosses fly from side to side or any other area beside his position.Now please don't tell me I shoud instruct my crossers to hit from deep/mixed/byline to near/far/centre/TM cause I've tried it all.Unless he's got acceleration too,he'll never connect to to the cross and that kind of complete striker is pretty rare.
Anyway,thaks for the reply.

Well, I don't think they are very rare to be honest. Finishing and composure doesnt have to be high at all. I've found over 100 just now in my save that meet the requirements.

But I think the problem is that high crosses are very rare in FM11. I almost never see a high lobbed cross that my 6'8" striker can get to. Even when I set it to far post (which is supposed to be a high cross) Almost every single cross I've seen in the game come in fast and low (about 6 feet off the ground). I seem to remember FM10 having more high crosses. I have seen high crosses in FM11 but I could count those instances on my fingers

I know what your saying, every tactic on this forum utilizes a fast agile striker. I don't think once I've seen a tactic which requires a strong tall target man type forward.

The fast strikers do get boring. Someone should make the ultimate target man tactic :)

Yeah,I've browsed around to find some inspiration,tried tweaked roles like "modern TM" or TBH's roles but eventually they're only good at bringing into play fast strikers and cutting inside wingers.
I hope I'm wrong and someone who disagrees notice this thread.
