does anyone else find it difficult to win? it doesnt matter what team i pick i allways seem to bee on a bad run. i have never choose a big team, usually a league 2 side or lower. i am a cheat because i get bored easily, and i like to build a new squad so when i start a new game i usually give myself 10m to play with when i pick a lower league side.

i have tried most of the tactics that are downloadable from this site and tried some of my own, my best results were with th brian clough tactics, but it wasnt long before my team went back to its old ways and i bought players and coaches that are good for the league but its usually the same results... cant win, strikers cant score 20 chances 2 on target thats if there not injured, defenders stand and watch while a player that plays for some sunday league team runs rings round him, oppositions keeper is like superman, while mine looks like hes never played in goal before, draw too many give an early goal or 2 away, looseing 2-0 then pull two back in the second half if im lucky.

i seem to do better if i go on holiday and leave the assistant to it

i used to play fm 08 and i enjoyed that. i thought it was me doing something wrong but now im not so sure, its just too difficult hopefully the new champ manager will be out soon then i can lay this game to rest.

Your problem is in a large part because you spend 10 million quid with a lower league team and don't consider the impact of that on the team. You need to bring new players in slowly and allow them to gel with an existing squad. Constantly chopping and changing will guarantee that your squad will fall apart no matter how good your tactics are.

Do you watch your matches on full to see what's going wrong? Are you changing your tactics for opponents who nullify your favoured approach? Do you understand how to change your tactics? Are you giving the right team talks to build players' morale and motivation for matches? etc etc.

The game is complex, but not overwhelmingly so. Lots of good advice all over the place if you're willing to accept that you need to learn how to get the most out of the game.

to be fair im gettin like that does my head in need to spice things up or maybe im not the right thing

The game has always rewarded attention to detail. 09 has just pushed it even further. If you want a more 'buy players, choose tactics, win everything' type of game then it's certainly not the right game for you. But if you're willing to go back to basics and learn the game, it truly is magnificent for the first few seasons (a few bugs which really irritate me creep in then - especially how dumb the AI managers are with maintaining and selecting squads).

Not sure what you mean by 'spicing things up'? Just to give a real world example - the start of this season Chelsea were performing fantastically well. Until teams worked out that Chelsea were overly reliant on Bosingwa and Cole pushing up, and Scolari lost his job as results became worse as teams played on this. In 09, it takes a good season or so before teams start to really get to grips with even a fairly basic 'tactic' - so you'll rarely see the AI manager setting his team up specifically to nullify your team and exploit weaknesses until then. Look at how Manchester United suffered for a few games when teams realised that Evra pushing up and Ronaldo failing to track back were big weak spots in the way they played - Ferguson quickly changed things and United got back on track, with a bit of fortune etc of course.

i think you are buying and selling players too quick and too much they dont settle or gel and become worried about there place in the team and it affects there confidence and performance

hi thanks for the replies, yeah i agree i do buy and sell players too fast i thought that may be the problem. i dont spend the full 10m though i try to make it last as long as i can but i do bring in 10 to 15 players in all at once. the morale is allways superb and all my players are happy. i do change my tactics sometimes for home and away matches, depending on how hard i think there going to be. and i understand the team talks and my assistant says the players are really up for this.

i think i will start a new game and take my time with it.

I agree that it does take time. I think adding the £10Million just makes things worse cos if things don't go your way, then you can just try to spend your way out of trouble by buying better players rather than looking at why the team don't perform. It takes a long time to build teams capable of winning all the time, especially if you start at the bottom.

As a lower league team, you have to accept that sometimes you will go on runs of not winning (I know this extremely well).

I think that you should start a new game without editing anything and stick with it even when things don't go well. I have done this with my Eastbourne Boro side - have managed them for nearly 10 years and have only managed the Championship twice yet I still love the game even though I lose plenty of games.

just checked your easbouurne borough game out, and think im gonna have a crack at it, not cheating either. not sure who to be though Grays athletic look the most likely

Good luck :) Lower league management can be extremely frustrating, but it is very, very rewarding when you see your team doing well or nicking 1-0 wins away from home against opponents who should hammer you :D

Definitely worth taking your time if you've got the basics. There's so much depth to the game that taking that additional time really can pay off and help you enjoy the game again.

All the best.

I'm currently battling away with Albion rovers in the lowest tier of scottish football. like zebedee said though when you sneak a win against someone who should hammer you, it makes all the frustration so worthwhile. You just gotta stick at it mate, dont expect miracles straight away, like the others have said, work on the tactics, look in to where its goin wrong. you'll get there fella !!

I've just managed to start bossing it with my Hamburg team. Won 14 games in a row and 2 points behind Bayern with two games to go. So I am just about to play against Stuttgart and then Bayern at home in my last game of the season. What happens? All but 7 of my first team squad get called up for international duty! I draw the Stuttgart game after having no less than 3 of my players injured (2 taken off), Bayern win (as they seemingly dont lose), Bayern go 4 points clear with a game to go and win the league. Im really fed up of FM 09. Just when things finally start to go right, the game shafts you royaly by acting like a complete and utter *******. Im away to punch FM's ugly face!

That's one feature which really needs to be put back in - the ability to request a fixture postponement. I once had 18 games in 31 days as Bury due to successful cup runs followed by 3 games the following 30 days. Something which SI need to fix for sure - especially for international fixtures.

well lads. Ive just hit the jackpot !! lol. I have won the scottish third division with my albion rovers side. quality. doubt ill hav any money to spend tho. Anyway to the scottish second division we go. if ya want screenys, just ask !!

well i decided to start a new game. i chose to be vauxhall motors started with 0 transfer funds and 4.4k wages. they were tipped to finish 22nd i think im not too sure. i loaded all the players from the Reunion, like nursemorph did in his eastbourne game i have never done that before. i was suprised how good the players from there were and they wanted less than half of the wages that my best vauxhall players wanted. i blitzed the blue square north in my first season and im halfway through my second season and im 2nd 7 pts behind in the blue square premier altringham are having a cracking season. i made about 15 signings when i started because the reunion players were too good to turn down twice as good with half the wages, i have signed about another 3 in the second season still havnt spent a penny but i havnt changed the team or tactics ( playing a simple 442 short passing). and i can tell a massive difference my players seem like they never give up. ank my keeper is awsome. we are battering teams that should hammer us. i think its going to get much harder soon though because i feel my players are a bit too good for the league im in. but for now im enjoying it and i will be takeing my time in future.

Does this mean you have stopped being bored with FM09 now then? :P. Good to see you are doing well. If you get promoted to League 2 you will need to start thinking about replacing the Reunion players. I found that they are good for a mid-table finish and thats about it (except for the odd player of course - one of mine I sold to a League 1 team and he was playing well).

Try being rangers in the spl with these tactics they are amazing and i can almost garantee you success http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f59/tylerbode-tactic-amazing-results-t13524.html i am using 9.3 patch with great results i only lost 1 game all season and you dont need to keep changing them and then you can concentrate on the other aspects of managing also check this thread out http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f55/the-strangest-game-i-have-ever-had-t14713.html let me know how you get on and dont get disheartened you will find the right tactic sooner or later i have looked since 2007 fm and i believe this is the most solid tactic i have found so far but you must use rangers good luck;)

Man, good luck with vauxhall but we'll be waiting for you to open a ''HUGE FRUSTRATION THREAD'', make it easy for yourself pick up man u and go win eevrything every year, if you pick vauxhall just remember to slower the tempo since half the team are deaf and the other blind, which complicates things.
