Friendlies

We had relatively easy friendlies and the results showed it. We weren't really tested by any of the teams but i'm pleased that we kept four successive clean sheets whilst still creating many chances. Hopefully we can take this momentum into the season and make a push for the play-offs as a minimum.

Transfers

I made it a priority to strengthen the centre of midfield and thats exactly what we did. Playmaker Dominik Kaiser joins from RBL and should prove plently good enough at this level. Jason Cummings and Fredrik Jensen both look like good rotation options and two loan signings joined later in the window to cover for some injuries we sustained. Only Sam Saunders left permanently. I have several players listed for transfer and will look to ship them out in January.

August

We had mixed results throughout August however I'm generally pleased with how it went as we adapted to a new system and new signings integrated into the team. The first game couldn't have been any better as we dominated from start to finish with Vibe, Jota and Gogia securing a 3-0 victory. A rotated side strolled to victory at Leyton Orient before we suffered defeat at the hands of newly promoted Bristol City. We struggled to a draw at home against Brimingham with Alan Judge grabbing a late equaliser on his return from injury and followed that up with a superb performance away at one of the promotion favourites Burnley with Djuricin and Cummings earning us victory. A fortunate victory against Chesterfield saw us advance into the third round of the Capital One Cup where we will face Bournemouth. A disappointing home defeat against Reading concluded the month.

After the first month we're situated just inside the top half. I'll be looking to push on and improve on our solid start and hopefully be firmly inside the top six by Christmas.

Jake Bidwell
Our captain led by example and put in solid performances throughout the month. Both Bidwell and Collin look very exciting going forward at full back whilst remaining strong at the back. Hopefully he can inspire others to improve and form the base of a promotion push.

Brentford fan over her ???????????? keep up the good start mate

September & October

We began the month with some inconsistent results. A great performance saw us clinch a victory away at Leeds before we snatched a injury time equalister against a strong and inform Middlesborough side. Our worst performance of the month was a 1-0 home loss to struggling preston. However we began to string together a good run that started with a victory over Premier League Bournemouth with Alan Judge grabbing a goal just one minute in injury time to secure the win. Our next three games saw us keep three successive clean sheets and victories with Marco Djuricin grabbing a goal in every one of those games. A spirited 3-2 defeat at West Brom threw us of course and be went on to loose our next game at home to QPR with Kaiser's late goal not enough to rally a comeback.

Marco Djuricin
Our on loan striker really showed his qualities becoming our main talisman over the last three months. He's bagged several key goals in the lead and scored 5 goals in 6 six games over the course of October.

November & December

We managed to go undefeated throughout November and December with the only downside being not being able to take our chances and turn these draws into wins. After a poor end to October we struggled for form at the beginning of the month drawing our first two games although one of those was against table toppers Hull. Our first win in four came against struggling Forest who had just sacked their manager with Judge, Kaiser and Vibe securing a 3-0 victory. A late comeback from Bolton saw us throw away a two goal lead before we returned to winning ways at home against MK Dons. Two successive 1-1 draws followed with Hofmann and Jota getting the goals. We ended the months with two wins from three throughout the Christmas period, the first of which was a strong 4-1 victory against Huddersfield. Bjelland and Cummings both scored their fist league goals in a 2-0 home victory over Brighton.

The big name summer signings really showed his experience at a higher level, starring in a back four that has one of the best records in the league. He has also put in a shift a defensive midfield and contributed with goals this month as well.

January & February

Our tremendous unbeaten run continued throughout January and most of February as we cemented a top 6 spot. Having beaten Birmingham 1-0, we eased past Crawley in the FA Cup before we thumped Middlesborough thanks to goals from Vibe, Judge, Jota and Cummings. A last minute of goal from Harlee Dean saw us edge past Burnley before we recovered from 2-0 down to draw with Preston. We faced Newcastle in the FA Cup and lead them all game untill they scored in the last five minutes to take us to a replay. We returned to winning ways in the lead smashing both Leeds and Brighton before Newcastle became our second Premier League scalp of the season at St .James' Park. Third placed Sheffied Wednesday were next but Kaiser, Cummings and an early own goal was enough to see them off. Our first defeat in 18 games came against Man United despite a spirited performance at Old Trafford. Our fatigued team then fell to 10-man Wolves before we laboured to a 1-1 draw at relegation threatened Rotherham.

We've broken into the top two but we can't let our form slip. It looks like Hull will run away with the title however we play them next month and a victory could see us right back in it.

Alan Judge
He had been one of our better players all season but this year he really stepped up his game and clinched Championship player of the month for January. Jason Cummings ran him close scored 10 goals over the two months.

We began our run in with a stalemate with Derby County before smashing Charlton 4-0 to end run of 4 winless games. Our biggest game of the season so far saw us lose to Hull at the KC Stadium. Despite Jota's opener, Hull managed to get back into the game and scored the winner after Harlee Dean gave away a penalty and was sent off late on. A deserved draw against inform QPR followed and we went on a run of 7 games without defeat including wins against Cardiff, Bristol City and Bolton. Despite this, Sheffield Wednesday were level with us on goal difference going into the final three games. We suffered defeat at MK Dons, but we finished the season strongly with a Jota hat-trick vs. Fulham and a last minuite Harlee Dean header grabbing victory at Huddersfield. The question is, did we get promotion or will we have to battle it out in the lottery of the play-offs..........

Sheffield Wednesday lost 2 of their last 3 and which saw us promoted by 3 clear points. Hull City smashed their way back to the Premier League but surprisingly both Fulham and Nottingham Forest were relagated. We had the joint best defence in the league and were only behind Hull and Burnley on goals scored.

Jota
Our attacking midfielder has been ever-present this season contributing with both goals and assists and never more so than the last three months. He scored a Hat-trick against Fulham and bagged two braces during the run in. Worryingly however, he has attracted interest from the likes of West Brom and Sevilla so I will try to sign him down to a new contract before he becomes unhappy.

No. I don't think they've been in the top flight for over 50 years or so.

Much like last season, our opposition was fairly poor in pre-season in an attempt to boost team morale. We did face two Football League sides and two Scottish Premiership , all of whom we beat comfortably. Players who particularly impressed were Rhodes, Darikwa and Jota.

We needed a major overhaul of players to compete at this level because for much of last season we played without a natural right midfielder or defensive midfielder. Matt Phillips, from rivals QPR, and Jordan Cousins were brought in to fill those positions. With Djuricic being our only consistent goalscorer last season, he needed replacing after heading back to Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the season. We was replaced with two of the Championship's top scorers from last season in the prolific Jordan Rhodes and the promising Zach Clough who grabbed 27 and 23 goals respectively. Sam Johnstone joined permantly after his successful loan spell last season and and Tendayi Darikwa will add some extra quality at full back. Ahearne-Grant and Louis Reed both joined from the lower divisions and look like good prospects for the future. Maitland-Niles joins after impressing at Ipswich in the Championship and Jores Okore joins from relagated Villa to replace the outgoing Bjelland. The only other notable departures were Phillipp Hofmann, Lewis McLeod and Oldrup Jensen who all played a part last season.

We couldn't of asked for a tougher start, facing Chelsea on the opening day. However we did not embarrass ourselves and put up a good fight despite loosing 3-1 after Zach Clough scored a late reply. A creditable away draw at Stoke followed with Clough once again grabbing a goal. We edge past Preston in the Capital One Cup after making 9 changes from the weekend. Our first win of the Premier League season came against West Brom. Two goals down at the break, goals from Phillips, Jota and two from Clough saw the game turn on it's head. A 3rd minuite goal from Jota saw off West Ham before we thumped struggling Bournemouth. We then faced Watford twice in 5 days, loosing in the Cup but then Rhodes' first, second and third goals for the club downed them in the league. A stunning 2-0 victory against Man City at Griffin Park was undoubtably our best performance under my management. One goal a piece for Clough and Phillips was enough to beat the Champions. Another impressive result at the Emirates can next. Jota's second half goal grabbed a point. Our first defeat in seven league games came against Palace, however we redeemed ourselves with another great win over Liverpool. We are performing way above expectations and I can't expect it to continue. The board have agreed to increase both my wage and transfer budget so with some shrewd business in January there is no reason that we cant push for at least a top half finish.

Zach Clough
Since joining from Bolton this lad has continued his goalscoring ways and currently sits 3rd in the goal charts. Claudio Ranieri (England Manager) has been to several games looking at him amongst others. Matt Phillips, Jores Okore and Jota were also very impressive in the opening 3 months of the season.
