Barker took Bury Up! : Richie Barker has stood down as manager.
Following promotion from League Two last season, Richie Barker decided he wouldn’t be able to take the job on permanent basis. The club soon started the process in finding a new manager who would be able to keep them in League One. Many applications came through, but one stood out for the board.
His name was Michael Henson, a 25 year old graduate from University of Central Lancashire. He was a lifelong Bury fan and had various coaching badges. His only previous playing experience was playing for the Forever Bury fans team and his only coaching experience was coaching one of the university sides. He had gained a reputation though as a hard working individual and led the first team at his university to the league title three years in a row. He was recommended to the club by current assistant manager Peter Shirtliff who worked with Michael during a coaching course last year.
We have decided to employ him on a 12 month rolling contract so we can evaluate his performance at the end of the year before deciding whether to extend it or not.
There will be further statements throughout the year on the progress of the young manager.
Can Henson keep his beloved Shakers up? Or will they drop down to the basement league division? We will soon see.
