Hope he gets better soon, I used to hate him when he scored a hattrick vs me once in a pre-season friendly in FM. However it is horrible for anyone to be shot in the head and my prayers go to him and his family.

hope he recovers

he reminds me of tevez for some reason

How can he get shot in the head but stay alive? Glad hes alive but is that even possible..

Quick recovery please.

If you read the original report, it says he was conscious on arrival at the hospital?
How are you conscious after being shot in the head :|

He caught the bullet in his mouth David Blaine style<)

On a serious note though I hope he recovers and I would think that playing football again is at the back of his mind, he should just concentrate on getting better.

What? He used a small metal cup and a gum shield?

surviving a gunshot to the head, whilst not exactly common isnt unheard of. and remaining conscious throughout the ordeal has also been documented. if the bullet has passed between the two frontal lobes (i assume he was shot head on) instead of puncturing either one, then remarkably he has quite a good chance (based on my reading of other such cases)

however i have also read that the surgery failed to remove the bullet, which doesnt really sound promising.

but just going from those pictures id say hes one of the hardest bastards ive ever seen.

wish him all the best

what is wrong with this world, in my opinion the death penalty should be brought back to these shooters, they should be shot or hung or just tortured, but this human rights bullshit is around, anyone who shoots another person unless they are a soldier or cop should die, my very strong opinion

100% tottaly agree with you my mate.

found a few interesting things

this video contains 2 still frames of Cabanas after the shooting. don't watch if you cannot handle graphic images.

I just can't believe this happened. He is an amazing player, one of the best stikers in the world, and what happens? This. It is really sad, and as DRPEPPER said, there's no other punishment for the kind of people who do this than the death penalty.

FUERZA CABANAS

yeah in the 2nd video you see the 3 guys leave casually and get in the car and go. you also hear the gunshot when they go into the bathroom after cabanas went in :( it was preplanned and thought out.

PARAGUAY and Club America striker Salvador Cabanas was shot in the head in a Mexico City bar last Monday, apparently for not scoring enough goals for his club.

Cabanas, who is showing signs of recovery but remains critical, had gone to the toilet at the bar when he became involved in a row with another customer. It is reported Cabanas' assailant shouted: "Where are the goals?" at him, prompting the player to ask: "Who are you?" The row intensified, with Cabanas allegedly challenging the gunman's manhood before the shot was fired.

It is a chilling echo of the Andres Escobar shooting in 1994, in which the defender was killed, apparently by gambling drug lords, after he scored an own goal which put Colombia out of the World Cup.
Cabanas was expected to play a major role for Paraguay at this year's World Cup, having scored 10 goals in 44 appearances for them.
