Can i manage club and country without selecting country at the start?

Basically the title. I am managing a club and domming, but i want to manage England as well. If the job becomes available, can i apply for the job and get it without losing my club team?

I did that with Liverpool and England after the previous national manager resigned

Yes, although they tend to dismiss your interest in the job if you're in the early stages of the game (2014-16). It's only the AI managers who lose their club job (Guardiola becomes Spain manager, etc.)
