What I mean by that, is that I noticed a change of play in my team. My 1st season, I mainly used a direct, counter attacking tactic, so I would get the ball quickly up the field. My second season, I added a possession tactic mostly due to my upgrade in skill and actually have the talent to keep the ball. Well I didn't change anything in my direct tactic but as I got more fluid in each tactic, the passing game started to look more like the possession tactic. It made the tactic work even better.

Is this just because of having better, smarter players, or can parts of tactics merge into others?

In my opinion it could be a matter of "team spirit" or of the fact that players get used to each other and understand each other. In my game with Boreham Wood (BlueSquare South) same players played much better and better looking football after a year or two with no changes in tactic or dramatic changes in attributes. When I signed a new player, it suddenly looked like the first season...
