Hi all, been trying to make a tactic which emulates Ancelotti's Real Madrid.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the style of play.

too soon to say, as he himself hasn't yet found a defining or optimal formation and line-up for the team. it's been variations of 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. The general philosophies are however that he wants the team to press and control games, allowing the attacking players to roam as they wish, giving them quite free roles

He uses 4-2-3-1. That much is a given. Most of the coaches who manage high profile teams want the players to press. He is no different. All of them defend during a set piece with only Benzema outside. Madrid as always play with a high tempo and quick direct passing. I have observed that the 3 AMs Isco, Ronaldo and Di Maria swap( Mainly its Ronaldo and Isco though as CR7 is a goal threat). Benzema is a poacher here playing on the shoulder of the last defender. Marcelo attacks and overlaps with Ronaldo when he goes inside(Complete wing back). On the other side, Arbeloa is more defensive minded(Limited full back, perhaps). Ronaldo is an IF with attack. He needs to do the goal scoring. Di Maria is a thorough winger who supports. Then comes the engine room. Alonso/Illaramendi should win the balls and they have the ability to play a good pass. Modric creates and creates well(DLP). If Khedira is there, he acts as a Box to box MF. Here is where I'm not sure what to use. The defenders should be CD with defend as they defend well and play simple passes. But both Pepe and Ramos show some goal threat during a set piece.

Can anyone find out how Carlo is playing with Real?

It's been a while since he has settled for the 4-3-3 actually..
With Di Maria as a midfielder and Bale or Jese on the right..
The roles are the following in my opinion:
Gk (defend), 2 CDs (defend), Marcelo is a complete wing back on the left and Carvajal an attacking fullback on the right..
Alonso i'd say plays as half back at dmc, with Di Maria and Modric ahead of him as Central Mid (support) and DLP (support)..
Ronaldo and Bale are inverted attacking inside forwards and finally Benzema probably plays as F9 or DLF because he drops deep..

Generally they try to hold the ball and control games, and without it they press a lot till they get it back..
Defensive line is preety high and the tempo i'd say depends on the game and the opponent..
With these players though, i'd say that the team lacks creativity, so i'd swap Di Maria for Isco and play him as a Central Mid (attack)..
Ancelotti generally prefers Di Maria because he's a lot better defensively..

Try it and i hope it works.. :)

Perfect analysis (I confirm this from Madrid).

What does speed have in common with strawberries?

Nothing.

His analysis is perfect. I don't create good tactics. But I live in Madrid and I see this team every week on Tv, and they play just as described.

What about the front 3 changing their position. I have also seen Di Maria moving to wing and CR7 moving to a central position in a trequista role whenever the opposite team drops deep. This also allows modrid to move more forward and Ramos is a ball-playing defender i think because he always ventures forward with pepe/varanae doing to sweeping job.

I have never used half-back and so i ask that from a half-back position he can dictate tempo and launch long-scale balls as he usually does??

In order to play that you'll need to change to 4-4-2, with Di Maria on the left wing as winger support and Ronaldo upfront partnered with Benzema..
Again Benzema would drop deep while Ronaldo would make runs from more central positions..

As for the Half Back: yes he can dictate tempo if he has the ppm (and Alonso does)..
You should also set his passing to direct and i think he'll make the long passes..

Ps: all the things i said are theoretical and based on Real Madrid IRL..
I don't know if they'll actually work in FM since i've never tried to employ them..

Perfect analysis. Why dont you give a shot at making a tactics?? There isnt a tactics based on ancelotti's madrid and will good to have a tactics of best team in the world

I had a 4-4-2 tactics in FM13 that worked quite like the today's madrid does but none on fm14

Well, mainly because i don't have the time to test and tweak..
